  • This paper introduces two platforms created by the development team at CORE studio, Thornton Tomasetti's global innovation studio. Collaborative platforms change the way that parties communicate and develop projects. Wikipedia is one of many great examples for a platform that supports collaborative development of a product - the world's largest encyclopedia. In the AEC industry, no such platform exists that can be used for collaborative development of a building project, and hence, information exchange between the parties involved, and modeling programs used in a project is slow and opaque. The platforms introduced in this paper allow for much greater transparency at all stages of the building design process, and hence improve the flow of information between parties involved in the process, both firm-internal and external. While traditionally, the use of a large number of different modeling and analysis platforms is hard to manage by a project team; this paper introduces methods that strengthen the design process by using a multitude of programs needed in the different building design phases.

  • In recommender systems based on collaborative filtering, measuring similarity is very critical for determining the range of recommenders. Data sparsity problem is fundamental in collaborative filtering systems, which is partly solved by Jaccard coefficient combined with traditional similarity measures. This study proposes a new coefficient for improving performance of Jaccard coefficient by compensating for its drawbacks. We conducted experiments using datasets of various characteristics for performance analysis. As a result of comparison between the proposed and the similarity metric of Pearson correlation widely used up to date, it is found that the two metrics yielded competitive performance on a dense dataset while the proposed showed much better performance on a sparser dataset. Also, the result of comparing the proposed with Jaccard coefficient showed that the proposed yielded far better performance as the dataset is denser. Overall, the proposed coefficient demonstrated the best prediction and recommendation performance among the experimented metrics.

  • This paper proposes a policy adjuster-driven Grid workflow management system for collaborative healthcare platform, which supports collaborative heart disease diagnosis applications. To select policies according to service level agreement of users and dynamic resource status, we devised a policy adjuster to handle workflow management polices and resource management policies using policy decision scheme. We implemented this new architecture with workflow management functions based on policy quorum based resource management system for providing poincare geometrycharacterized ECG analysis and virtual heart simulation service. To evaluate our proposed system, we executed a heart disease identification application in our system and compared the performance to that of the general workflow system and PQRM system under different types of SLA.

  • Recently, decentralized approaches to artificial intelligence (AI) development, such as federated learning are drawing attention as AI development's cost and time inefficiency increase due to explosive data growth and rapid environmental changes. Collaborative AI technology that dynamically organizes collaborative groups between different agents to share data, knowledge, and experience and uses distributed resources to derive enhanced knowledge and analysis models through collaborative learning to solve given problems is an alternative to centralized AI. This article investigates and analyzes recent technologies and applications applicable to the research of multi-agent collaboration of AI bots, which can provide collaborative AI functionality autonomously.

  • Collaborative learning encourages the use of high-level cognitive strategies, critical thinking, and interpersonal relationships. Despite these advantages, most instructors reveal the difficulties of using project-based collaborative learning; a common problem is the failure of the group to work effectively together. Thus, this study attempted to provide practical advice on group composition with self-regulation. In a college course, 31 groups with 129 students were asked to discuss and prepare the final presentation material and present it together as a collaborative work. All students' self-regulation skills were measured at the beginning of the semester, and the collective self-regulation was computed as an average of the individual scores of each group. The results of regression analysis indicate that the group's collective self-regulation shows a highly significant positive effect on group performance and satisfaction, as self-regulation predicts individual academic performance. The results also show that there is a significant positive relationship between students' self-regulation and participation in group work.

  • In this paper, we propose a personalized event recommendation scheme using user's activity analysis and collaborative filtering in social network environments. The proposed scheme predicts un-evaluated attribute values through analysis of user activities, relationships, and collaborative filtering. The proposed scheme also incorporates a user's recent preferences by considering the recent history for the user or context-aware information to precisely grasp the user's preferences. As a result, the proposed scheme can recommend events to users with a high possibility to participate in new events, preventing indiscriminate recommendations. In order to show the superiority of the proposed scheme, we compare it with the existing scheme through performance evaluation.

  • To investigate the seismic pounding response of long-span bridges with high-piers under strong ground motions, shaking table tests were performed on a 1/10-scaled bridge model consisting of three continuous spans with rigid frames and one simply-supported span. The seismic pounding responses of this bridge model under different earthquake excitations including the uniform excitation and the traveling wave excitations were experimentally studied. The influence of dampers to the seismic pounding effects at the expansion joints was analyzed through nonlinear dynamic analyses in this research. The seismic pounding effects obtained from numerical analyses of the bridge model are in favorable agreement with the experimental results. Seismic pounding effect of bridge superstructures is dependent on the structural dynamic properties of the adjacent spans and characteristics of ground motions. Moreover, supplemental damping can effectively mitigate pounding effects of the bridge superstructures, and reduce the base shear forces of the bridge piers.

  • Through the analysis of the coordination mechanism of the supply chain system of China's automobile manufacturing industry, the factors affecting the supply subsystem, the manufacturing subsystem, the sales subsystem, and the consumption subsystem are sorted out, the supply chain coordination index system based on the influence factor of four subsystems is established. The evaluation models of the coordination degree in the subsystem of the supply chain, the coordination degree among the subsystems, and the comprehensive coordination degree are established by using the efficiency coefficient method and the collaborative entropy method. Experimental results verify the accuracy of the evaluation model using the empirical analysis of the collaborative evaluation index data of China's automobile manufacturing industry from 2000 to 2019. The supply chain synergy of automobile manufacturing industry was low from 2001 to 2005, and it increased to a certain extent from 2006 to 2008 with a small growth rate from 0.10 to 0.15. From 2009 to 2013, the supply chain synergy of automobile manufacturing industry increased rapidly from 0.24 to 0.49, and it also increased rapidly but fluctuated from 2014 to 2019, first rising from 0.68 to 0.84 then dropping to 0.71. These results provide reference for the development of China's automobile manufacturing supply chain system and scientific decision-making basis for the formulation of relevant policies of the automobile manufacturing industry.

  • In this paper, the CAE Service System for Collaborative Engineering Environment with web services and Multi-frontal Method has been investigated and developed. The enabling technologies such as SOAP and .NET Framework play great roles in the development of integrated distributed application software. In addition to the distribution of analysis modules, numerical solution process itself is again divided into parallel processes using Multi-frontal Method for computational efficiency. We believe that the proposed approach for the analysis can be extended to the entire product development process for sharing and utilizing common product data in the distributed engineering environment.

  • In this paper, the numerical inverse kinematics analysis is presented for a collaborative robot with an offset wrist. Robot manipulators with offset wrist are widely used in industrial applications, due to many advantages over those with wrist center and those with three parallel axes such as simple mechanical design, light weight, and so on. There may not exist a closed-form solution for a robot manipulator with offset wrist. A simple numerical method is applied to solve the inverse kinematics with offset wrist. Singularity is analyzed using Jacobian matrix and the numerical inverse kinematics algorithm is implemented on the real-time controller.
