  • Recently, a new type actuator using multi-pole magnet has been developed for high-density and high-speed disk drive, which can be achieved higher sensitivity than a conventional actuator for applying one-pole magnet. However, it is very difficult for the actuator of multi-pole magnet to meet simultaneously the optimal design condition for reducing rolling mode effect and improving driving sensitivity because the force center is different from the mass center In this paper, First We propose the new shape coil for tracking which can reverse moment additionally in tracking motion, Next we achieve the optimal design to reduce phase disturbance and peak gain at the rolling mode frequency. Finally, the validity of the proposed methods is proved from experimental results.

  • An ice storage cooling facility with cooling capacity of 150㎾ has been constructed for the purpose of developing optimal design and control strategy for an ice storage system. As the first step to this purpose, a computer program has been developed to simulate the operation of the ice storage system and examined precisely by comparing the results with those measured from the test facility. With the simulation program verified from the comparison, a design procedure has been developed to determine the minimum capacity required for each operation strategy available commercially. It is shown that the minimum sizes of the chiller and the storage tank are strongly dependent on the control strategy, i.e., chiller priority or storage priority, but less affected by the arrangement method, i.e., chiller upstream or chiller downstream.

  • A voice type Moving Coil Linear Oscillatory Actuator(MC-LOA) has unbalanced magnetic circuit structure. Its asymmetric magnetic flux distribution along the mover directions causes shifting of displacement center to one side. Therefore, this paper analyzes both thrust and displacement characteristics and settles the unbalanced flux problem by performing shape optimization. The propriety of the improved design model has been verified by dynamic analysis based on the coupling of kinetic and electric equations.

  • In these days the hybrid interrupters are widely used for medium voltage class circuit breakers. In the design of the hybrid interrupter, the shape of the short-circuit ring is one of the most important design parameters. Recently the investigation into the phase difference between arc current and magnetic field due to the shape variation of the short circuit ring has been conducted. In this paper, the results of eddy current analyses in the hybrid interrupter and test result are presented.

  • The effect of power supply voltage on the performance limits in a laboratory magneto-rheological fluid based device was identified by experiments. It suggests that the frequency range of motion for control is limited by the voltage attenuation due to the coil inductance and the maximum power supply voltage set for practical use of an MRF devices. In this work, the magnetic and electrical characteristics of the MRF device are investigated and a design procedure is formulated to achieve the desired performance for a given power supply.

  • This paper proposes a helmet-type whole-head brain stimulator system considering a realistic head geometry. For more accurate design and computer simulations, a realistic volume conductor model was adopted and the current evoked on human cerebral cortex was analyzed using the boundary element method (BEM). To obtain a more focalized evoked current around the target points, various coil configurations were tested and an average targeting error of about 10 mm was obtained.

  • The design concept of a bending magnet to be installed in the KSTAR NBI system is presented. It is the function of a bending magnet that removes unconverted ions from the main beam stream and produces an 8 MW, 120 keV deuterium neutral beam. In order to determine the proper size and shape of the bending magnet, a parametric study on the B-field pattern was carried out by changing the dimensions of the pole face model. In addition, the detailed trajectories of the dominant ion species produced in the beam line were calculated. The electrical and cooling parameters of the coil assembly were also estimated.

  • This paper describes for new design method to improve respones characteristics of moving-magnet type LDM with volume reduction of slider back iron. To achieve the constant thrust of LDM through restraining saturation at the center core of stator excitation coil, double sided stator winding of LDM is proposed. We constructed new type LDM to prove the validity of design process. Analysis results through measurement and simulation of proposed multi-separated winding LDM were proved excellent in response characteristics and static thrust.

  • In this paper, characteristic analysis of PC(Pancake Coil) probe with the size variation is presented for eddy current testing. Characteristics of probe are numerically calculated by using the finite element method. From the numerical analysis, the optimum frequency and groups for an experiment are selected. Probes are made and experiment is performed. From the experimental results, the probe shows maximum sensitivity when the size of defect is equal to the size of probe and when the inside diameter is similar to the width of probe and when the height is low. The result can be helpful to the standard of design of PC probe for eddy current testing.

  • This paper describes the design, simulation and characterization of an AA size electromagnetic energy harvester that is capable of converting environmental vibration into electrical energy. A magnetic spring technique is used to scavenge energy from low frequency external vibrations. The generator is characterized by ANSYS 2D finite element analysis, and optimized in terms of moving mass, fixed magnet size, coil width and load resistance. The optimized energy harvester is able to generate 53.5 mW of average power at 8.1 Hz resonance frequency, with a displacement of 0.5 mm.
