  • Inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) images can be generated by radar which radiates the electromagnetic wave to a target and receives signal reflected from the target. ISAR images can be widely used to target detection and recognition. This paper proposed a method of generation of high resolution ISAR images by synthesizing frequency spectrums of each stepped chirp waveform in one burst and sub-sampling in frequency domain. This process is performed over entire bursts during coherent processing interval. Conventional ISAR image generation method using stepped frequency waveform has a severe problem of short unambiguous range, loading to ghost phenomenon. However, this problem can be resolved by the proposed method. In simulations, we generate high resolution ISAR image of the moving target which is Boeing-737 aircraft model composed of several ideal point scatterers.

  • A laser speckle is a random pattern that has a granular appearance produced by reflected light when a coherent laser illuminates an irregular course surface. Most important property of laser speckle is detecting micro-vascular. Speckle image needs image processing to detect micro-vascular. This paper proposes a new image processing method for laser speckle, adaptive window method that adaptively processes laser speckle images in the spatial. Conventional fixed window based LASCA has shortcoming in that it uses the same window size regardless of target areas. Inherently laser speckle contains undesired noise. Thus a large window is helpful for removing the noise but it results in low resolution of image. Otherwise a small window may detect micro vascular but it has limits in noise removal. To overcome this trade-off, we newly introduce the concept of adaptive window method to conventional laser speckle image analysis. We have compared conventional LASCA and its variants with the proposed method in terms of image quality and processing complexity.

  • The effects of track format on the inter-track crosstalk of holographic ROM system are investigated. To quantify the effect of inter-track crosstalk for various track width and pitch, we defined Signal to Crosstalk noise Ratio(SCR) as a criterion. A numerical simulation is used to obtain the SCR as a function of track widths and pitches. We compared different 4 track widths having 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, and 0.6 ${\mu}m$ considering resolving power of lens and recording density. The simulation results show that the SCRs for each track width are maximized at the track pitch which has the value of 0.72, 0.72, 0.74, and 0.5 ${\mu}m$ respectively. Next, for the three sets with track width-pitch(0.4-0.72, 0.5-0.74, 0.6-0.8 ${\mu}m$) which showed the maximum SCR, we set a minimum pit length so that all sets have a DVD equivalent data density and compared RF signals passed from the slit. The simulation results show that when the track width, pitch, and minimum pit length have 0.5, 0.74, and 0.4 ${\mu}m$ respectively, the difference between the maximum and minimum value of the RF signal showed the greatest value. Also, we investigated RF signal in case of using an amplitude inversion mask, which transmitted regions are inversed against the conventional mask. The simulation results show that the better RF signal may be obtained by using an amplitude inversion mask.

  • Quantum Information Processing and Communication, based on the physical laws of Quantum mechanics, exploits fundamentally new modes of computation and communication and holds the promise of immense computing power beyond the capabilities of any classical computer. In Quantum Information Processing, replacing bits with qubits, one makes two-state quantum systems that do not possess in general the definite values of 0 or 1 of classical bits, but rather are in a so-called. "coherent superposition", of the two. Full exploitation of this additional freedom implies that new processing devices need to be designed and implemented, and that a large scale quantum computer can in principle be built. New discoveries will enable a range of exciting new possibilities including: greatly improved sensors with potential impact for mineral exploration and improved medical imaging and a revolutionary new computational paradigm that will likely lead to the creation of computing devices capable of efficiently solving problems that cannot be solved on a classical computer. In short, Quantum computing is an economy game changer, with a potential of disrupting entire industries and creating new ones.

  • The generation of precise digital elevation model (DEM) is very important in coastal area where time series are especially required. Although a LIDAR system is useful in coastal regions, it is not yet popular in Korea mainly because of its high surveying cost and national security reasons. Recently, precise DEM has been made using radar interferometry and waterline methods. One of these methods, spaceborne imaging radar interferometry has been widely used to measure the topography and deformation of the Earth. We acquired ALOS PALSAR FBD mode (Fine Beam Dual) data for evaluating the quality of interferograms and their coherency. We attempted to construct DEM using ALOS PALSAR pairs - One pair is 2007/05/22 and 2007/08/22, another pair is 2007/08/22 and 2007/10/22 with respective perpendicular baseline of 820 m, 312m and respective height sensitivity of 75 m and 185m at southern of Ganghwa tidal flat, Siwha- and Hwaong-lake over west coastal of Korea peninsula. Ganghwa tidal flat has low coherence between 0.3 and 0.5 of 2007/05/22 and 2007/08/22 pair. However, Siwha-lake and Hwaong-lake areas have a higher coherence value (From 0.7 and 0.9) than Ganghwa tidal area. The reason of difference coherence value is tidal condition between tidal flat area (Ganghwa) and reclaimed zone (Siwha-lake and Hwaong-lake). Therefore, DEM was constructed by ALOS PALSAR pair over Siwha-lake and Hwaong-lake. If the temporal baseline is enough short to maintain the coherent phases and height sensitivity is enough small, we will be able to successfully construct a precise DEM over coastal area. From now on, more ALOS PALSAR data will be needed to construct precise DEM of West Coast of Korea peninsular.
