  • Superplastic punch forming of sheets is simulated by a finite element method to obtain the optimal punch speed and the related deformed shapes. The punch forming has an advantage of guaranteeing the desired accuracy inside a product and controlling the thichness of a deformed sheet more accurately than blow forming. The finit element code developed is associated with the contact algorithm and the control algorithm of punch speed for the optimum forming. The simulation demonstrates that the variation of the thichness in a blank sheet affects the punch speed and the final distribution of the thichness in a product. The analysis proposes that a ring-typed thichness controller is very effective in controlling the thichness of a deformed sheet appropriately.

  • The distribution of bacteria in kimbab and its ingredients have been investigated. The total bacterial counts were over 3$\times$106/g(n=30) when the kimbabs were delivered to restaurant and it exceeded the legal level 1$\times$106/g defined by the Code of Food Standard in 1991. The gram-negative coliforms were also detected 1.9$\times$105. In order to study the cause of bacterial contamination in kimbabs, the ingredients used in kimbabs were examined. The bacterial counts were found 104-108/gfor kim (laver), 104-108/g for sausage, 104-106/g for boiled-spinach, 103-107/g for carrot, and 104-106/g for Danmuji, respectively. From these results it could be concluded that the bacterial contamination in Kimbabs was caused mainly by the ingredients such as kim, boiled-spinach, carrot, and sausage. Therefore, this suggested that the sanitary manufacture of kim, the storage at refrigerator temperature of the ingredients for kimbabs, and the proper treatment of equipments should be maintained in order to reduce the bacterial contamination for kimbabs. Furthermore, it should be required to obtain the basal data for establishment of the sanitary standard of kim and kimbab.

  • As it is known, laminated composite materials are increasingly used in many technological applications, and in some instance, cutouts must be made into laminated panels for practical reasons, changing the stress distribution. The present study deals with the determination of the stress concentration factor that holes of square shape cause in an orthotropic plate subjected to distributed in - plane loading. Square holes of rounded corners in a rectangular plate are considered, and the effect of different combinations of axial and tangential forces applied to its middle plane at the external edges, is studied. The mutually perpendicular axes, which define the principal axes of orthotropy, are assumed in many different directions referred to the sides of the plate. Numerical experiments by means of a finite element code is performed, evaluating the influence of the fiber orientation with respect to the edges of the plate and the characteristics of the orthotropic materials since such structures do not exhibit easily predictable behavior.

  • Notches such as slots are typical geometric features on mechanical components that promote fatigue crack initiation. Unlike for components with open hole type notches, there are no conventional treatments to enhance fatigue behavior of components with slots. In this work we evaluate the viability of applying laser shock peening (LSP) to extend the fatigue life of 6061-T6 aluminum components with slots. The feasibility of using LSP is evaluated not only on damage free notched specimens, but also on samples with previous fatigue damage. For the LSP treatment a convergent lens was used to deliver 0.85 J and 6 ns laser pulses 1.5 mm in diameter by a Q-switch Nd: YAG laser, operating at 10 Hz with 1064 nm of wavelength. Residual stress distribution was assessed by the hole drilling method. A fatigue analysis of the notched specimens was conducted using the commercial code FE-Safe and different multiaxial fatigue criteria to predict fatigue lives of samples with and without LSP. The residual stress field produced by the LSP process was estimated by a finite element simulation of the process. A good comparison of the predicted and experimental fatigue lives was observed. The beneficial effect of LSP in extending fatigue life of notched components with and without previous damage is demonstrated.

  • Most software is distributed as a binary file format, so reverse engineering is not easy. But Android is based on the Java and running on virtual machine. So, Android applications can be analyzed by reverse engineering tools. To overcome this problem, various obfuscation techniques are developed. In android environment, the Proguard is most widely used because it is included in the Android SDK distribution package. The Proguard can protect the Java source code from reverse engineering analysis. But it has no function to protect resources like images, sounds and databases. In this paper, we proposed and implemented resource obfuscation framework to protect resources of android application. We expect that this framework can protect android resources effectively.

  • Corporate governance has received massive attention in academic research nowadays due to several recent corporate failures. Inefficiency of corporate governance mechanisms have driven the minds of the researchers and the policy makers to look with more insights into this area. Board composition, as part of corporate governance mechanism, plays a significant role to achieve company's goals or objectives and ensure transparency and accountability. The objective of this study is to find out the efficiency of board composition through board size, independent directors and female directors on firm performance in the listed manufacturing firms of Bangladesh. In this study, a sample of 162 firm years are considered as the sample during the period of 2011 to 2016. This study finds that large board is the significant explanatory variable in improving firm performance. This study also shows that board independence and female directors have no significant association with firm performance which implies that instrument of corporate governance mechanism particularly board composition is very weak. This study recommends that code of corporate governance, specially the role of independent directors and female directors, should be reformed in the light of cultural and institutional context along with the effective enforcement.

  • This study analyzes guidelines to select optimum number of grids to represent behavior of a given water system appropriately. The EFDC model was chosen as a 3-D hydrodynamic and water quality model and salt was chosen as a surrogate variable of pollutant. The model is applied to an artificial canal that receives salt water from coastal area and fresh water from a river from respective gate according to previously developed gate operation rule. Grids are subdivided in vertical and horizontal (longitudinal) directions, respectively until no significant changes are found in salinity concentrations. The optimum grid size was determined by comparing errors in average salt concentrations between a test grid systems against the most complicated grid system. MSE (mean squared error) and MAE (mean absolute error) are used to compare errors. The CFL (Courant-Friedrichs-Lewy) number was used to determine the optimum number of grid systems for the study site though it can be used when explicit numerical method is applied only. This study suggests errors seem acceptable when both MSE and MAE are less than unity approximately.

  • Causal inference methodologies have been developed for the past decade to estimate the unconfounded effect of an exposure under several key assumptions. These assumptions include, but are not limited to, the stable unit treatment value assumption, the strong ignorability of treatment assignment assumption, and the assumption that propensity scores be bounded away from zero and one (the positivity assumption). Of these assumptions, the first two have received much attention in the literature. Yet the positivity assumption has been recently discussed in only a few papers. Propensity scores of zero or one are indicative of deterministic exposure so that causal effects cannot be defined for these subjects. Therefore, these subjects need to be removed because no comparable comparison groups can be found for such subjects. In this paper, using currently available causal inference methods, we evaluate the effect of arbitrary cutoffs in the distribution of propensity scores and the impact of those decisions on bias and efficiency. We propose a tree-based method that performs well in terms of bias reduction when the definition of positivity is based on a single confounder. This tree-based method can be easily implemented using the statistical software program, R. R code for the studies is available online.
