A distributed hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) platform is developed for designing an automotive engine control system. The HILS equipment consists of a widely used PC and commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) I/O boards instead of a powerful computing system and custom-made I/O boards. The distributed structure of the HILS system supplements the lack of computing power. These features make the HILS equipment more cost-effective and flexible. The HILS uses an automatic code generation extension, REAL-TIME WORKSHOP$^{ (RTW$^{) of MATLAB$^{ tool-chain and RT-LAB$^{, which enables distributed simulation as well as the detection and generation of digital event between simulation time steps. The mean value engine model, which is used in control design phase, is imported into this HILS. The engine model is supplemented with some I/O subsystems and I/O boards to interface actual input and output signals in real-time. The I/O subsystems are designed to imitate real sensor signals with high fidelity as well as to convert the raw data of the I/O boards to the appropriate forms for proper interfaces. A lot of attention is paid to the generation of a precise crank/ earn signal which has the problem of quantization in a conventional fixed time step simulation. The detection of injection! command signal which occurs between simulation time steps are also successfully compensated. In order to prove the feasibility of the proposed environment, a simple PI controller for an air-to-fuel ratio (AFR) control is used. The proposed HILS environment and I/O systems are shown to be an efficient tool to develop various control functions and to validate the software and hardware of the engine control system.

To get an insight into the operating characteristics of the passive residual heat removal system of molten salt reactors, a two-phase natural circulation test facility was constructed. The system consists of a boiling loop absorbing the heat from the drain tank, a condensing loop consuming the heat, and a steam drum. A steady-state experiment was carried out, in which the thimble temperature ranged from $450^{\circ}C$ to $700^{\circ}C$ and the system pressure was controlled at levels below 150 kPa. When reaching a steady state, the system was operated under saturated conditions. Some important parameters, including heat power, system resistance, and water level in the steam drum and water tank were investigated. The experimental results showed that the natural circulation system is feasible in removing the decay heat, even though some fluctuations may occur in the operation. The uneven temperature distribution in the water tank may be inevitable because convection occurs on the outside of the condensing tube besides boiling with decreasing the decay power. The instabilities in the natural circulation loop are sensitive to heat flux and system resistance rather than the water level in the steam drum and water tank. RELAP5 code shows reasonable results compared with experimental data.
The objective of this study was to establish the optimal system operating strategies for nitrogen and phosphorus removal through model simulation system built for advanced wastewater treatment targeting on simultaneous temporal/special phase isolation BNR process. The simulation system was built with unit process modules using object modules in GPS-X code. The system was well verified by field experiment data. Simulation study was carried out to investigate performance response to design and operation parameters, i.e. hydraulic retention time (HRT), solids retention time (SRT), and cycle time. The process operated at HRTs of 10~15 hours, longer SRTs, and cycle time of 2 hours showed optimal removal of nitrogen. The HRTs of 10~15 hours, SRTs of 20~25 days, and longer cycle time was optimal for phosphorus removal. Both simulation and field studies showed that optimal operating strategies satisfying both the best nitrogen and phosphorus removals include HRTs ranged 10~15 hours, SRTs ranged 20~25 days, and cycle times of 4~8 hours. The simulation system with modularization of generalized components in BNR processes was, therefore, believed to be a powerful tool for establishing optimal strategies of advanced wastewater treatment.

In this paper, we implement measurement functionality for performance measurement of the GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) terminal by using software. Generally speaking, the receiving algorithms in normal modems cannot be used directly to the measurement system due to the lack of the algorithm accuracy. In this paper, we propose the new receiver algorithm for precise GSM signal measurements. In the receiving algorithm, 2-stage (coarse stage, fine stage) parameters estimation (symbol-timing, frequency offset, carrier phase) scheme is used. To improve the estimation accuracy, we increase the number of the received signal samples by interpolation. The proposed GSM signal measurement algorithm can be used for verifying the hardware measurement system. In addition, the proposed algorithm can be used for the commercial system through code execution speed optimization.
Programmers can be got the test-related information for implementation without interference of source code complexity by use of the formal specification. Especially the external inputs and system responses can be represented precisely by formal specification in testing phase of web-based software systems. This paper suggests a method of extracting test cases by use of formal specification. Object-Z formal specification represents various test-related information for complex functions of web-based applications. State Transition Models could be built from the formal specification so that test scenarios were extracted from STDs from the highest level to detail levels. The target system for verification of this method is a web-based banking system which is necessary to be secured and critical on errors. This method would be an important factor in automatizing test procedure for web-based application software systems combining the user-base test technique.
It has been established that the acoustic mode parameters of the Sun and Sun-like stars vary over activity cycles. Since the observed variations are not consistent with an activity-related origin, even Sun-like stars showing out-of-phase changes of mode frequencies and amplitudes need to be carefully studied using other observational quantities. In order to test whether the presumed relations between the global seismic parameters are a signature of the stellar activity cycle, we analyze the photometric light curve of HD 49933 for which the first direct detection of an asteroseismic signature for activity-induced variations in a Sun-like star was made, using observations by the CoRoT space telescope. We find that the amplitude of the envelope significantly anti-correlates with both the maximum frequency of the envelope and the width of the envelope unless superflare-like events completely contaminate the light curve. However, even though the photometric proxy for stellar magnetic activity appears to show relations with the global asteroseismic parameters, they are statistically insignificant. Therefore, we conclude that the global asteroseismic parameters can be utilized in cross-checking asteroseismic detections of activity-related variations in Sun-like stars, and that it is probably less secure and effective to construct a photometric magnetic activity proxy to indirectly correlate the global asteroseismic parameters. Finally, we seismically estimate the mass of HD 49933 based on our determination of the large separation of HD 49933 with evolutionary tracks computed by the MESA code and find a value of about 1.2M☉ and a sub-solar metallicity of Z = 0.008, which agrees with the current consensus and with asteroseismic and non-asteroseismic data.
As NPPs continue to operate, liquid waste continues to be generated, and containers are needed to store and transport them at low cost and high capacity. To transport and store liquid phase very low-level radioactive waste (VLLW), a container is designed by considering related regulations. The design was constructed based on the existing container design, which easily transports and stores liquid waste. The radiation shielding calculation was performed according to the composition change of barium sulfate (BaSO4) using the Monte Carlo N-Particle (MCNP) code. High-density polyethylene (HDPE) without mixing the additional BaSO4, represented the maximum dose of 1.03 mSv/hr (<2 mSv/hr) and 0.048 mSv/hr (<0.1 mSv/hr) at the surface of the inner container and at 2 m away from the surface, respectively, for a 10 Bq/g of 60Co source. It was confirmed that the dose from the inner container with the VLLW content satisfied the domestic dose standard both on the surface of the container and 2 m from the surface. Although it satisfies the dose standard without adding BaSO4, a shielding material, the inner container was designed with BaSO4 added to increase radiation safety.

In this study, a centrifugal seawater cooling pump was analyzed to investigate its cavitation behavior over different operating flow rates. 3D two-phase simulations were carried out with ANSYS-CFX commercial code. The $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence and Rayleigh-Plesset cavitation models were employed in the simulations. A head drop characteristics curves for three discharge rates was built based on numerical predictions. At higher flow rates, the impeller was more vulnerable to bubble cavitation. The 3 % head drop points of the pump working at 0.7Q, Q, and 1.3Q (Q: design flow rate) corresponded with NPSHa 1.21 m, 1.83 m, and 3.45 m, respectively. The volume of vapor bubbles was estimated and cavitation locations were anticipated to visualize the development of the cavity within the impeller. Moreover, the distribution of pressure coefficient and a blade loading chart are specifically presented, bringing out the harmful impacts of cavitation on the pump operation.

Due to the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) modernization, the recently launched GNSS satellites transmit signals at various frequency bands of L1, L2 and L5. Considering the Korea Positioning System (KPS) signal and other GNSS augmentation signals in the future, there is a high probability of applying more complex communication techniques to the new GNSS signals. For the reason, GNSS receivers based on flexible Software Defined Radio (SDR) concept needs to be developed to evaluate various experimental communication techniques by accessing each signal processing module in detail. In this paper, we introduce a multi-constellation (GPS/Galileo/BeiDou) multi-band (L1/L2/L5) SDR by utilizing Ettus USRP N210. The signal reception module of the developed SDR includes down-conversion, analog-to-digital conversion, signal acquisition, and tracking. The down-conversion module is designed based on the super-heterodyne method fitted for MHz sampling. The signal acquisition module performs PRN code generation and FFT operation and the signal tracking module implements delay/phase/frequency locked loops only by software. In general, it is difficult to sample entire main lobe components of L5 band signals due to their higher chipping rate compared with L1 and L2 band signals. Experiment result shows that it is possible to acquire and track the under-sampled signals by the developed SDR.
Purpose - This study empirically analyzes the effects of provisional anti-dumping duties levied on imports by Korea following anti-dumping investigations. An anti-dumping duty is a legal tool that countries use to impose duties on imports to offset injurious dumping. This study verifies how effective the imposition of a provisional anti-dumping duty is and whether such duties have trade chilling effects on aggregate imports. Specifically, this study examines import trade diversion from named to unnamed countries caused by the imposition of provisional anti-dumping duties. Design/methodology - This empirical analysis employs an econometric model of provisional anti-dumping measures for cases in which Korea imposed final affirmative anti-dumping measures. We construct a monthly panel dataset for each stage of anti-dumping investigation undertaken by Korea for all manufacturing industries during 1995-2013. We illustrate a stage-by-stage analysis of anti-dumping investigations from initiation, preliminary decision, imposition of provisional duty, final affirmative decision, and imposition of final affirmative duty on a monthly basis at the six-digit harmonized system code-level. Findings - For cases in which provisional duties are imposed, the reduction in imports from named countries outweighs the increase in imports from unnamed countries. The substantial reduction in imports from named countries is large enough to offset the import diversion to unnamed countries, suggesting that import diversion in investigations is limited during the investigation period. Therefore, the use of provisional anti-dumping duties in Korea is effective, providing evidence of a chilling effect on aggregate imports. Originality/value - Few studies examine the size of the effects on import trade diversion of the imposition of provisional anti-dumping duties. We contribute to the literature by disentangling separate trade effects for each phase of the anti-dumping investigation process and imposition of provisional duty.
