  • A fluid transport technique is a key issue for the development of microfluidic systems. In this study, the movement of a droplet on horizontal hydrophilic/hydrophobic surfaces, which is a new concept to transport droplets without external power sources that was recently proposed by the author, was simulated using an in-house solution code(PowerCFD). This code employs an unstructured cell-centered method based on a conservative pressure-based finite-volume method with interface capturing method(CICSAM) in a volume of fluid(VOF) scheme for phase interface capturing. The droplet transport mechanism is examined through numerical results that include velocity vectors, pressure contours, and total kinetic energy inside and around the droplet.

  • In this paper, the needs for introduction and adoption of MㆍHF DSC/NBDP system and for developments of its circuits and call sequences for use in the maritime mobile services for small-ships, leisure-ships and fishing ships are analyzed, discussed. Also design and implement for MㆍHF(1.6-4MHz) DSC/NBDP system is discussed. Most of casualties have been arisen from small-ships and fishing ships during last 5 years. So, the SAR schematic plans should been prepared to prevent casualties and facilitate the activities of SAR for those ships. DSC/NBDP for MㆍHF system is able to fulfill the roles of efficient SAR communication functions, and to advance the SAR system to small ships and fishing ships. This study is focused on the techniques of processing the DSC call sequences and the ARQ sequences of NBDP system. Especially ARQ sequences are expanded into processing of Korean letters, designed the call sequences and code conversion algorithm for Korean-code. It will be evaluated the availability of Korean-NBDP system. In designing the Transmitting circuits and Receiving circuits, for the carrier generation, DDS(Direct Digital Synthesizer) is used in stead of the Phase Locked Loop and frequency conversion by the mixer, BPF. And PSK modulation signals are directly generated by the controls of DDS, which show the characteristics of Spurious Free Dynamic Range are below -62dBc. Also, the monolithic U subsystem IC which provides various functional components, AD608 is used for designing the receiving circuitsㆍAnd the algorithm of Phasing methode for FSK demodulation are devised to process IF frequency 455kHz in the IF circuits.

  • In October 2019, the European Galileo navigation system operates a total of 24 satellites, two of them are in the testing phase. There are enough satellites in operation to enable precise point positioning (PPP) using Galileo signals. The number of visible satellites for Galileo in South Korea is investigated. In addition, to assess the latest performance of the Galileo kinematic PPP, data received at DAEJ reference station from October 1 to October 7, 2019, are analyzed. Galileo kinematic PPP presents some results in two categories, single-frequency PPP (SPPP) and dual-frequency PPP (DPPP). The positioning accuracy for Galileo kinematic SPPP solutions is less than 1 m root mean square (RMS) in all direction components. The Galileo kinematic DPPP achieves the positioning accuracy with an RMS value of less than 7 cm in all direction components. The results show that the latest performance of Galileo kinematic PPP at DAEJ station in South Korea is still relatively poor compared to GPS kinematic PPP. However, the residuals of Galileo code measurements are smaller than those of GPS code measurements.

  • A three-dimensional (3D) $Ly{\alpha}$ radiative transfer code is developed to study the Wouthuysen-Field effect, which couples the 21 cm spin temperature of neutral hydrogen and the $Ly{\alpha}$ radiation field, and the escape fraction of $Ly{\alpha}$ from galaxies. The Monte Carlo code is capable of treating arbitrary 3D distributions of $Ly{\alpha}$ source, neutral hydrogen and dust densities, gas temperature, and velocity field. It is demonstrated that the resonance-line profile at the center approaches to the Boltzmann distribution with the gas temperature. A plane-parallel ISM model, which is appropriate for the neutral ISM of our Galaxy, is used to calculate the $Ly{\alpha}$ radiation field strength as a function of height above the galactic plane. We also use a two-phase, clumpy medium model which is composed of the cold and warm neutral media (WNM). It is found that the $Ly{\alpha}$ radiation field is strong enough to thermalize the 21 cm spin temperature in the WNM to the gas kinetic temperature. The escape fraction of $Ly{\alpha}$ is found to be a few percent, which is consistent with the $Ly{\alpha}$ observations of our Galaxy and external galaxies.

  • This paper assesses the models in the SCDAP code using the results of the FLHT-2 test. Calculations show that the SCDAP correctly predicts Ire temperatures, oxidation front movement, overall hydrogen generation and peak generation rate, internal fuel rod pressure, and cladding rupture due to ballooning. A comparison of the calculated results with measured data shows that two phase level is underpredicted, and that radiation heat transfer and auto-catalytic reaction temperature of zircaloy are overpredicted. These models are recommended to be modified. The analysis also shows that the simulation of the gap in a fuel rod improves the code prediction on core damage progression.

  • Cavitation on an axi-symmetric hemispherical head-form body was studied using an Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations solver based on a cell-centered finite volume method. To consider compressibility effects on the vapor phase and cavity interface, a pressure-based compressible flow CFD code was developed. To validate the developed CFD code, cavitating flow around the hemispherical head-form body was simulated using pressure-based incompressible and compressible CFD codes and validated against existing experimental data in the three-way comparison. The cavity shedding behavior, length of re-entrant jet, drag history, and Strouhal number of the hemispherical head-form body were compared between two CFD codes. The results, in this paper, suggested that the computations of cavitating flow with compressibility effects improve the description of cavity dynamics.

  • In this paper, knowing a priori probability of phase offset between transmitted codes and reference codes in the receiver, we construct the state diagram of acquisition process of the direct sequence spread-spectrum communication system using the expanding window search. The scannings are performed from the cell with higher probability code epoch synchronization to that with lower one. We expand window size from initial value by r times of its previous size in each search, construct the corresponding the state diagrams, and derive average synchronization time using the Markov process and Mason's gain formula. Average synchronization times versus number of search n and detection probability $P_d$ are calculated.

  • Average Bi-directional flow tube was suggested to measure single and two phase flow rate. Its working principle is similar with Pilot tube, however, it makes it possible to eliminate the cooling system which is normally needed to prevent from flashing in the pressure impulse line of Pilot tube when it is used in the depressurization condition. 3-dimensional steady state flow analyses using FLUENT 5.4 code were performed to validate the application of the average bi-directional flow tube in case of water and air flow. In this study, sensitivity studies have been performed to optimize the design features of the average bi-directional flow tube which can be applied for the various experimental conditions. For Re numbers above 1000, the k values are nearly constant regardless of the Re numbers and flow types and calculation results and experimental data coincides quite well. The current FLUENT calculation results suggest that linearity of the k values in various design features of the average BDFT is highly promising, which means that it is quite reasonable to select the typical design of the average BDFT for the convenience of the experimental conditions.

  • Not enough verification or enough design of test is not performing in many software developments organization as yet. Therefore, defects that can be detected and corrected during the beginning phases of development are usually found during dynamic testing, it is often observed that testing is inefficient compared to effort for testing. This study aims to suggest a method for effective testing through case study. It is useful in case of not verification and not enough design of test in the previous phase than coding. We show in a concrete way major activities that determine prioritization of testing and level of test case design through static testing, i.e. code review and analysis of code quality. And also we show role between test team and development team.

  • It is known that adaptive minimum mean square error (MMSE) receivers exhibit better performance than coventional single-user code division multiple access (CDMA) receivers in fixed (or static) channels and have the simple structure compared to other multi-user CDMA receivers. In practice, the radio channels are fading channels where the amplitude and phase of the received signal are time-varying and the sufficient signal-to-noise ratio is not always guaranteed. Thus, the performance of adaptive MMSE receivers is severely degraded in fading environments. We propose a new structure and adaptation algorithm for an adaptive MMSE receivers. Based on computer simulation results, it is observed that the proposed receiver demonstrates substantial performance improvement over currently available adaptive MMSE receivers in fading environments.
