  • The compressive strength of horizontal joints in precast concrete large panel structures depends on parameters such as grout and panel strength, detail of joint, joint moment, width of grout column, and etc. 44 specimens were tested to investigate the effects of parameters that influence the compressive strength of horizontal joints. The design formula specified in Korean Cock for compression horizontal joints must be reviewed, because it was based on the test results of the joint types not used in Korea. In this study comparing the test results, there fore, the validity of the design formulas was evaluated and a suitable formula was proposed to predict the ultimate strengths of compression horizontal joints. The increase of ultimate strengths was not observed, even if confined the horizontal displacement of slabs and reinforced the wall edge, when the grout strength is lower than panel strength. From the comparison of test results and those by the proposed formula, it was shown that proposed formula was suitable to predict the ultimate compressive strength of horizontal joints.

  • A rare case of atlantoaxial rotatory subluxation occurred after pediatric cervical spine surgery performed to remove a dumbbell-shaped meningioma at the level of the C1/C2 vertebrae. This case is classified as a post-surgical atlantoaxial rotatory subluxation, but has a very rare morphology that has not previously been reported. Although there are several reports about post-surgical atlantoaxial rotatory subluxation, an important point of this case is that it might be directly related to the spinal cord surgery in C1/C2 level. On day 6 after surgery, the patient presented with the Cock Robin position, and a computed tomography scan revealed a normal type of atlantoaxial rotatory subluxation. Manual reduction was performed followed by external fixation with a neck collar. About 7 months after the first surgery, the subluxation became severe, irreducible, and assumed an atypical form where the anterior tubercle of C1 migrated to a cranial position, and the posterior tubercle of C1 and the occipital bone leaned in a caudal direction. The pathogenic process suggested deformity of the occipital condyle and bilateral C2 superior facets with atlantooccipital subluxation. A second operation for reduction and fixation was performed, and the subluxation was stabilized by posterior fixation. We encountered an unusual case of a refractory subluxation that was associated with an atypical deformity of the upper spine. The case was successfully managed by posterior fixation.

  • Experiments were carried out to investigate Cd accumulation, elimination and cell response in juvenile rockfish (Sebastes schlegeli) exposed to sub-chronic dietary Cd (0, 0.5, 5, 25 and 125 mg/kg) for 60 days and depuration periods of 30 days. Cd accumulation in the kidney of cock fish increased with exposure periods and concentrations for the 60 days of dietary Cd exposure. After the end of the dietary Cd exposure, Cd accumulation values in the kidney were $52.9{\pm}9.94\;{\mu}g/g$ and $90.6{\pm}15.7\;{\mu}g/g$ for those exposed to 25 mg/kg and 125 mg/kg Cd, respectively. The accumulation factors increased with the exposure period in the kidney. Cd elimination in the kidney of rockfish did not vary significantly and remained constant after the cessation of the dietary Cd exposure. In the primary exposure periods, the effect of kidney tissue in the rockfish exposed to dietary Cd was observed the swelling of capillary of the glomerulus. In addition, there was also hydropic swelling within the pyknotic nuclei, some of hyaline droplet accumulation and the microvilli showed a positive reaction to alcian blue in the tubular cells. While exposure time and concentrations were increased, there was a lot of hyaline droplet accumulation and the microvilli showed a positive reaction to alcian blue in the tubular cells. Fused renal tubule and its necrosis were observed after 60 days at l25 mg/kg.

  • With the introduction of the video display terminal (VDT), the efficiency and productivity of work has improved. However, VDT syndrome is threatening the health of workers as a side effect of prolonged use of a VDT. Among various VDT syndromes, the musculoskeletal disorder, especially, the cumulative trauma disorder (CTD) is the common research topic related with upper extremities function. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the wrist-hand orthosis (WHO) on fatigue in middle deltoid, anterior deltoid, serratus anterior, and upper trapezius during one-hour computer keyboard typing. Twelve healthy subjects participated in this study. Surface electromyography was used to assess the localized muscle fatigue (LMF), and the LMF was calculated at 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 40 minutes, and 60 minutes in each muscle, with and without the WHO. Data were analyzed by paired t-test with a level of significance of .05. The results of this study are as follows: 1) At 10 minutes, the LMF decreased significantly with applied WHO in the middle deltoid, anterior deltoid, and upper trapezius (p=.001, p=.026, p=.019, respectively). 2) As the computer keyboard typing period increased, there were no significant LMF differences, except for the upper trapezius. Therefore, it can be concluded that the WHO can be applied to decrease the LMF for the initial 10 minute period in the middle deltoid, anterior deltoid, and upper trapezius' but that the long term effect of WHO in reducing the LMF was proven only in upper trapezius during continued computer keyboard typing.

  • This paper describes the link layer and physical layer of the Serial ATA which is the next generation for parallel ATA specification that defines data transfer between PC and peripheral storage devices. The link layer consists of CRC generation/error detection, 8b/10b decoding/encoding, primitive generation/detection block. For the physical layer, it includes CDR(Cock Data Recovery), transmission PLL, serializer/de-serializer. It also includes generation and receipt of OOB(Out-Of-Band) signal, impedance calibration, squelch circuit and comma detection/generation. Additionally, this chip includes TCB(Test Control Block) and BIST(Built-In Selt Test) block to ease debugging and verification. It is fabricated with 0.18${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ standard CMOS cell library. All the function of the link layer operate properly. For the physical layer, all the blocks operate properly but the data transfer is limited to the 1.28Gbps. This is doe to the affection or parasitic elements and is verified with SPICE simulation.

  • Characterizing local chicken types and their mostly rural production systems is prerequisite for designing and implementing development and conservation programs. This study evaluated the management practices of small-scale chicken keepers and the phenotypic and production traits of their chickens in Oman, where conservation programs for local livestock breeds have currently started. Free-range scavenging was the dominant production system, and logistic regression analysis showed that socio-economic factors such as training in poultry keeping, household income, income from farming and gender of chicken owners influenced feeding, housing, and health care practices (p<0.05). A large variation in plumage and shank colors, comb types and other phenotypic traits within and between Omani chicken populations were observed. Male and female body weight differed (p<0.05), being $1.3{\pm}0.65$ kg and $1.1{\pm}0.86$ kg respectively. Flock size averaged $22{\pm}7.7$ birds per household with 4.8 hens per cock. Clutch size was $12.3{\pm}2.85$ and annual production $64.5{\pm}2.85$ eggs per hen. Egg hatchability averaged $88{\pm}6.0%$ and annual chicken mortality across all age and sex categories was $16{\pm}1.4%$. The strong involvement of women in chicken keeping makes them key stakeholders in future development and conservation programs, but the latter should be preceded by a comprehensive study of the genetic diversity of the Omani chicken populations.

  • Samples of silty sands and hydraulic fill ground were investigated by dynamic triaxial teats in order to evaluate the liquefaction strengths. In the tests, (1) undisturbed and disturbed samples were prepared, (2) dynamic shear strengths were measured under isotropic and anisotropic condition, and (3) the test results were compared with the other results which were tested by domestic and foreign researchers. The liquefaction shear strengths under ismtropic test condition were presented in terms of the relative densities. The amount of silt under 30o hardly influenced on the liquefaction strength. In the test results of anisotropically consolidated samples the liquefaction strength was dependent on the magnitude of the effective consolidation ratio. These teat results show that the liquefaction strength of the silty sand in Korea went coast exists within the boundary of the values suggested by Seed and Peacock(1971).

  • Since the ancient times, animals that can imitate the voices of human beings have been considered extremely special. There are very few such animals, and the parrot is an example of them. For a long time, there had been no reported case of a rooster being able to mimic the voice of a human being, but talking roosters were recently found in Korea and the Kyrgyz Republic, generating much talk. In this study, the vocal characteristics of such roosters were examined, and their pronunciation-related statistics and actual sound sources were analyzed. The analysis results showed that even though the roostets cannot converse with people, they can imitate the human voice, uttering the words "An-dwae," and "A-ni-ya" in Korean, which mean "No" in English, when someone tries to catch their wings. A similar situation 'occurred in the Kyrgyzstan. The results of the listening survey on these sounds made by the roosters showed that most people recognized the words uttered by the roosters and that nobody thought that the words sounded like "cock-a-doodle-doo." It can be said that such roosters can make the sounds of the human voice because of their innate vocal organ and characteristics, which are significantly different from those of the general roosters. Their vocal organ and characteristics cause the sounds that they make to change in their vocal cords due to their high tension when humans try to catch them.

  • This research got the following conclusion as result that analyzed high clear action kinematically to 4 C girls' junior high school badminton players who are situated in Chungchong-bukdo. 1. Most of the subject didn't rotate their right shoulder and elbow joint at back swing and moved speedy to shuttle cock. And an cooperation action of joint decreases displaying only a good action on both subject`s specification joint part. 2. When the subject S1 and S2 swing slowly and largely the joint of shoulder and elbow and then the speed of right wrist and racket head is fast, the cooperation action of joint is better than other subject. 3. An angle change of right shoulder showed angle that all subjects are great being caused in softness of joint and angular velocity was exposed that load enough Impact force and increase the speed of racket head as angular velocity decreases rapidly in Impact except subject S3. 4. All subjects of right elbow angle change showed similar form and was exposed that subject S2 sees form of impact stage serious bends from back swing and do not use force effectively in angular velocity. 5. Angle of right wrist appeared that the speed of shuttle cock is decelerated because fast bends of wrist is not formed shortly after Impact because all subject do not accomplish big angle shortly after back swing. Angular velocity can assume that the subject S1 and S4 are using and move fast strong snap shot offering angular velocity value of Impact stage sound (-). 6. While size of Impact stage knee angle accomplishes angle that is big both subject, hip joint angles sees small angle and is playing swing that do on upper body and arm without using strong waist force that is composition action with knee and hip joint.
