자세관리프로그램이 초등학생의 척추측만 정도와 자세에 대한 지식에 미치는 영향 (Effect of a Posture Training Program on Cobb Angle and Knowledge of Posture of Elementary School Students)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effect of a posture training program, including posture education and spinal exercise as implemented on the elementary school students with scoliosis. Method: The design of this study is nonequivalent sample control group pretest-posttest design. The study subjects were elementary school students attending 7 elementary schools located in G city in Gyungsangbuk-Do. Among them, those who had the Cobb angle between 4~10$^{\circ}$ in spine x-ray who agreed to participate in the study program were selected as the study subjects. The research instruments included the degree of spinal scoliosis(cobb angle), the level of knowledge on posture, and an evaluation following the posture training program. The data were collected from March 1, 2002 to July 30, 2002. The collected data were analyzed by frequency, percentile, mean, standard deviation, t-test, i test and Mann-Whitney U test were using SPSS WIN10.0 program. Result: The elementary school students with scoliosis who received the posture training program have a lower Cobb angle and higher level of knowledge of posture than the elementary school students with scoliosis who did not receive the posture training program. Conclusion: The posture training program was effective on the on Cobb angle and Knowledge of posture in the elementary school students with scoliosis in this study. Therefore, the program training program can be usefully utilized for the students with mild scoliosis in the field of school health.

  • The newly developed system for measuring a contact angle on a sheet was examined to investigate reliability and reproducibility of the measured results. It was clearly confirmed that the automatic contact angle measuring system was much faster and more reliable way to determine the water resistance of a sheet, comparing with Cobb and Stockigt sizing tests. Cobb test showed less significant results with stringently sized sheets, and Stockigt test exhibited the big deviations by discrepancy of the recognition point of coloring according to different testers in spite of explicit test results. On the other hand, the contact angles measured by the automatic system were reproduced with less deviations, irrespectively of different testers. It was interesting to note that the contact angle might be able to used to predict Cobb and Stockigt sizing degree, based upon the high correlation coefficients of 0.95 and 0.97. Hereafter the automatic system will be upgraded to predict Cobb and stockigt sizing degree through the measurement of contact angle.

Immediate Effects of Maitland Transverse Movement on Pain, Trunk Flexion Movement and Cobb's Angle in Patient with Upper Thoracic Scoliosis

  • The purpose of this article was to investigate the effects of Maitland's transverse movement on change of pain, trunk flexion movement and Cobb's angle in patient with upper thoracic scoliosis. The subject are 37 years old with chronic low back pain participated in this study and has no experience surgery within the last six months due to back pain. 10 set was applied 10 times on the T3-T5 applied the transverse movement with grade IV to each segment by skilled physical therapist. Transverse movement was applied convex toward the concave side. Pressure pain threshold was reduced from 4/10 to 2/10. Trunk flexion range that is the distance between the middle finger and floor was increase from 7.3cm to 2cm. Cobb's angle was decreased from degree 18 to 16. This result demonstrated that the Maitland's transverse movement was benefit to reduce the pain and Cobb's angle, and to increase the trunk flexion movement.

성장에 따른 중학생 척추측만증 이행양상 (Scoliosis Progression according to the Growth of Middle School Students)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the progression of Cobb's angle of middle school students according to the Risser grade changes during a one-year follow up period, and to identify the prevalence rate and related factors regarding scoliosis. Method: A total of 2,124 middle school students were preliminarily screened by the Adam's forward bending test. Among them, 21 adolescents diagnosed with scoliosis (above 5Cobb's angle) by X-Raying were the subjects and followed up for checking Cobb's angle and the Risser grade for one year. Results: The overall prevalence of scoliosis in middle school students was 2.13% and the prevalence in girls was higher than in boys. The Cobb's angle was significantly high in seniors and girls. The cases in low angle and low Risser grade demonstrated significant changes in progressive Cobb's angle compared to the cases in high angle and high Risser grade after one-year. But gender and pattern of curvature were not significantly different from the changes scoliosis angle after one-year. Conclusion: Based on these study results, juniors in low Risser grade were inclined to aggravate scoliosis despite the low degree of curvature at the first measurement.

Effect of Trunk Side Shift Exercise on the Cobb's Angle of Patients with Idiopathic Scoliosis

  • Purpose: This study examined the effects of trunk side shift exercise on the Cobb's angle. Methods: Fifty-eight subjects (control group=30, scoliosis group=28) were enrolled in this study. The idiopathic scoliosis groups were divided randomly into two groups, a side shift exercise (SSE) group, and a trunk stabilization exercise (TSE) group. The SSE group performed side shift exercise on the developed chair training for eight weeks. The TSE group performed trunk stabilization exercise. A oneway ANOVA test was carried out to compare the results within the idiopathic scoliosis patient group before and after the exercises based on the different exercise methods. Results: The Cobb's angles were compared among control group and SSE group and TSE group. As a result, there was a significant difference from SSE group and TSE group(p=0.000), but there were no significant differences between the SSE and TSE groups (p=0.085). Conclusion: Side shift exercises are effective in improving the Cobb's angle. Therefore, the use of the side shift exercise chair designed in this study can replace general exercise either at work or during studies. Therefore, this method is easily accessible for busy modern students who are exposed to scoliosis or spinal disorders due to a pattern of inactivity.

슬링현수 자가 운동이 경추각도에 미치는 영향: 사례연구 (The Effects of Self Sling Suspension on the Cervical Angle: Case Study)

  • Background: The Purpose of this study was investigated the effects of the Self Sling Suspension on the numbness, radiated pain, visual analogue scale (VAS), Cobb's angle, Jochumsen's depth, neck disabliity index (NDI). Methods: This study was carried out with a 4 forward head posture (FHP) & 4 herniated nucleus pulposus (HNP) survivors. Outcomes such as the Numbness, Radiated Pain, VAS, Cobb's angle, Jochumsen's depth and NDI were measured pre- and post-intervention for both groups. Results: 2 HNP decrease was found numbness & radiated pain. After the intervention, was decreased VAS, NDI and was increased Cobb's angle, Jochumsen's depth. Conclusions: Applying Self Sling Suspension treatment to FHP & HNP patients proved to have a positive effect.

교통사고 후 응급실에 내원한 경항통 환자의 경추 만곡 연구 (The Cervical Spine Curvature of Posterior Neck Pain Patients Who Visited Emergency Room After Whiplash Injury by Traffic Accident)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the cervical spine curvature after whiplash injury by traffic accident. Methods : The cervical lateral radiographs of 102 outpatients who visited emergency room in Kyung-Hee university hospital at Gangdong after whiplash injury by road traffic accident were reviewed to measure the cervical spine angle using C1-7, C2-7 Cobb method, Sagittal tangent method, Jochumsen method and the Ishihara index by two oriental medical doctors. For statistics, we used SPSS version 17.0 for windows. Results : Means of cervical angle are $37.63{\pm}11.34^{\circ}$, $12.92{\pm}9.13^{\circ}$, $16.19{\pm}10.62^{\circ}$, $1.78{\pm}3.37$ and $8.51{\pm}9.78$ by C1-C7 Cobb Method, C2-C7 Cobb Method, Sagittal tangent method, Jochumsen method and Ishihara index, respectively. Hypolordosis is most numeral in patients by C1-C7 Cobb Method(n=40; 39.22%), Sagittal tangent method(n=68; 66.67%). And Straight is the most by Jochumsen method(n=54; 52.94%), but Normal is the most by Ishihara index(n=53; 51.96%). And Female has smaller curvature in cervical spine than male significantly by C2-C7 Cobb method and Sagittal tangent method(P<0.05). Conclusions : Whiplash injury tends to make hypolordosis or straight. And female has more vulnerable curvature than male in whiplash injury.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to report clinical effects of Lumbar flexion-distraction manipulation and Sitting position thoracic and lumbar vertebra adjustment manipulation on patient with Juvenile idiopathic scoliosis Methods : The patients have been treated with the above two Chuna manual manipulations. We measured Cobb's angle, VNRS before and after treatment Results : After treatment, we confirmed these transition : In first case, Cobb's angle of T-spine changed from 27 to 23 : Cobb's angle of L-spine changed from 17 to 10 : VNRS changed from 6 to 2. In second case Cobb's angle of T-spine changed from 30 to 21 : Cobb's angle of L-spine changed from 16 to 16 : VNRS chagned from 6 to 3 Conclusion : The result suggests that these two Chuna manual manipulations were effective treatment on patients with Juvenile idiopathic scoliosis.

스마트폰 사용에 의한 경추부 만곡이 감소된 성인의 경부 자세에 따른 관절가동범위와 목장애지수에 대한 연구 (Study for Range of Motion, Neck Disability Index According to Cervical Posture in Adults with Reduced Cervical Lordosis Due to Smartphone Use)

  • 본 연구는 경부 전만이 감소된 성인을 대상으로 경부 자세에 따른 관절가동범위와 목 장애지수의 비교 및 상관관계를 알고자 하였다. 본 연구를 경부 전만이 감소된(Cobb's 각도 35도 이하) 젊은 성인 34명을 선별하였다. 평가자는 경부 관절가동범위 측정기구를 사용하여 모든 대상자의 굴곡, 신전, 좌측굴곡, 우측굴곡, 좌측회전, 우측회전, 전방 변위를 측정하였으며, 설문을 통하여 목 통증지수를 평가하였다. 모든 평가 후, 경부 전만이 감소된 대상자를 하위집단(전만의 심각한 감소)과 상위집단(전만의 경미한 감소)으로 나누어 관절가동범위와 목 통증지수를 비교하였다. 연구 결과, 하위집단은 상위집단과 비교하여 Cobb's 각도, 신전, 좌측굴곡, 우측굴곡, 좌측회전, 우측회전, 전방 변위에서 유의하게 더 높았으며(p<.05), 굴곡과 목 장애지수는 유의한 차이가 없었다(p>.05). 목 장애지수의 하위항목 비교에서 하위집단은 상위집단보다 통증, 들어올리기, 두통에서 유의하게 더 높았다(p<.05). 평가 간에 상관분석에서 Cobb's 각도는 굴곡, 신전, 좌측굴곡, 우측굴곡, 좌측회전, 우측회전과 유의한 양의 상관이 있었으며(p<.05), 전방 변위, 목 통증지수와 유의한 음의 상관이 있었다(p<.05). Cobb's 각도는 목 통증지수의 하위항목인 통증, 들어올리기, 두통과 유의한 음의 상관을 보였다(p<.05). 본 연구의 결과는 경부의 자세가 관절가동범위와 통증에 영향을 줄 수 있음을 시사한다.

침 및 봉약침이 요추 전만 감소에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Acupuncture and Bee-venom Acupuncture on Lumbar Hypolordosis)

  • Objectives : The objective of this study was to observe the positive effects of acupuncture and bee-venom acupuncture treatment on lumbar hypolordosis. Methods : Acupuncture and bee-venom acupuncture were performed twice a week for 30 days to treat patients with low back pain patients showing a Cobb's angle [L1-S1] of less than $35^{\circ}$(treatment group=20, control group=13). Lumbar lordosis(Cobb's angle [L1-S1], Centroid angle [L1-S1]) was measured using an L-spine Lat. X-ray before and after treatment. Pain scales(VAS scale, ODI) were also was measured before and after treatment. SPSS 12K for Windows was used for statistical analysis of the results. Results : 1. VAS and ODI decreased significantly in the treatment group. 2. Lumbar lordosis, presented by Cobb's angle, increased significantly from $25.00{\pm}7.06^{\circ}$ to $30.95{\pm}10.02^{\circ}$ (p = 0.006). The increase of Cobb's angle in the treatment group $5.95{\pm}8.60^{\circ}$, and that of the control group was $-3.08{\pm}8.41^{\circ}$(p = 0.006). The increase of the Centroid angle of the treatment group was $3.85{\pm}8.83^{\circ}$, and that of the control group was $-2.92{\pm}7.63^{\circ}$(p=0.031). 3. Cobb's angle and Vas scale showed a significant correlation coefficient of -0.250(p=0.043). Increase of Cobb's angle and decrease of Vas scale showed a significant correlation coefficient of 0.420(p=0.015). Conclusions : Acupuncture and bee-venom acupuncture were verified to have a positive effect on pain alleviation of lumbar lordosis decreased patients while also affecting lumbar lordosis to be increased as a result of structural changes. It was also shown that lumbar hypolordosis has significant correlation with pain.
