플라즈마 스프레이 (LaSr)(CrCo)O3 코팅된 STS-430 합금의 고온 산화 거동 및 전기적 특성 (Oxidation and Electrical Properties of (LaSr)(CrCo)3Coated STS-430 Steel by Plasma Spraying)

  • Fe-Cr steels are the most promising candidate for interconnect in solid oxide fuel cells. In this study, an effective, dense and well adherent (LaSr)(CrCo)$O_3$ [LSCC] coating layer was produced onto 430 stainless steel (STS-430) by atmospheric plasma spraying and the oxidation behavior as well as electrical properties of the LSCC coated STS-430 were investigated. A significant oxidation of pristine STS-430 occurred at $800^{\circ}C$ in air environment, leading to the formation of $Cr_2O_3$ and $FeCr_2O_4$ scale layer up to ${\sim}7{\mu}m$ after 1200h, and consequently increased an area specific resistance of $330\;m{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$. Although the plasma sprayed LSCC coating contained the characteristic pore network, the coated samples presented apparent advantages in reducing oxidation growth of STS-430, resulting a decrease in oxide scale thickness of ${\sim}1{\mu}m$ at $800^{\circ}C$ after 1200h. The area specific resistance of the LSCC coated STS-430 was much reduced to ${\sim}7\;m{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$ after exposure at $800^{\circ}C$ for 1200h, compared to that of the pristine STS-403.

  • The engineering ceramic needs the properties of high strength, hardness, corrosion-resistance and heat-resistance in order to withstand thermal shock or applied nonuniform stresses without failure. The densely coated porous ceramics can be used for machine component, electromagnetic component, bio-system component and energy-system component by their high-performances from superior coating properties and light-weight characteristics due to the structure including pore by itself. In this study we controlled the porosity of silica and alumina, $8.2\~25.4\%$ and $23.4\~36.0\%$, respectively, by the control of sintering temperature and starting powder size. We made bilayer structures, consisting of a transparent glass coating layer bonded to a thick substrate of different porous ceramics by a thin layer of epoxy adhesive, facilitated observations of crack initiation and propagation. The elastic modulus mismatch could be controlled using different porous ceramics as the substrate layer. Then we applied 150 N force using WC sphere with a radius of 3.18 mm by Hertzian indentation. As a result, the crack initiation in the coating layer was delayed at lower porosity in the substrate layer, and the damage in the coating layer was relatively smaller at the bilayer structure coated on higher elastic substrate.

Fabrication of Superhydrophobic Aluminum Alloy Surface with Hierarchical Pore Nanostructure for Anti-Corrosion

  • Aluminum and its alloys have been widely used in various fields because of low weight, high strength, good conductivity, and low price. It is well known that aluminum alloys that cause natural oxide film can inhibit corrosion in wet, salty environments. However, these oxides are so thin that corrosion occurs in a variety of environments. To prevent this problem, an electrochemical anodizing technique was applied to the aluminum alloy surface to form a thick layer of oxide and a unique oxide shape, such as a hierarchical pore structure simultaneously combining large and small pores. The shape of the structures was implemented using stepwise anodization voltages such as 40 V for mild anodizing and 80 V for hard anodizing, respectively. To maximize water repellency, it is crucial to the role of surface structures shape. And a hydrophobic thin film was coated by 1H, 1H, 2H, 2H-Perfluorodecyltrichlorosilane (FDTS) to minimize surface energy of the structure surface. Thus, such nanoengineered superhydrophobic surface exhibited a high water contact angle and excellent corrosion resistance such as low corrosion current density and inhibition efficiency.

  • This research develops an easy-to-use, environmentally friendly method for fabricating functional 1050 aluminum alloy surfaces with excellent corrosion resistance. Functional aluminum surfaces with various nanostructures are fabricated by controlling the experimental conditions of anodizing process. The experiment used a multi-step anodizing process that alternates between two different anodizing modes, mild anodizing (MA) and hard anodizing (HA), together with a pore-widening (PW) process. Among them, the nanostructured surface with a small solid fraction shows superhydrophobicity with a contact angle of more than 170° after water-repellent coating. In addition, the surface with superhydrophobicity is difficult for corrosive substances to penetrate, so the corrosion resistance is greatly improved.

기존 세라믹 및 초고속 용사 분말피막 표면개질 플런저의 내구성 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Durability Characteristics for Plungers of Conventional Ceramic and Surface Modification by Powder Coating Using High Velocity Oxygen Fuel Thermal Spray)

  • The high velocity oxygen fuel(HVOF) thermal spray is a kind of surface modification techniques to produce the sprayed coating layer. This process is to form the coating layer after spraying the powder to molten or semi-molten state by the ultra-high speed at the high-temperature heat source and conflicting with a substrate. The efficiency of thermal spraying is dropped, however, because the semi-molten powder in a spray process become a factor that degrades the mechanical property by the formed pore within the coating layer. Therefore, it is necessary to melt completely the thermal spray powder in order to produce the coating layer with an optimal adhesive force. In this study, to improve the wear resistance, corrosion resistance and heat resistance, the plungers of high-speed and ultra-high pressure reciprocating hydraulic pumps used in ironworks are manufactured with STS $420J_2$ and are coated by the powders of WC-Co-Cr and WC-Cr-Ni including the WC of high hardness using a HVOF thermal sprayer developed in this laboratory. These are called by the surface-modified plungers. The surface roughness, hardness, and surface and cross-sectional microstructure of these two surface-modified and conventional ceramic plungers are measured and compared before operation with after operation for 100 days. It is found that the values of centerline average surface roughness and maximum height for conventional ceramic plunger are 9.5 to 10.8 and 5.2 to 5.7 times higher than those of surface-modified ones coated by WC-Co-Cr and WC-Cr-Ni because the fine tops and bottoms on surface roughness curve of conventional ceramic plunger are approximately 100 times higher than those of surface-modified ones. In addition, the pores and scratches in the surface microstructure are considerably formed in the order of conventional ceramic, WC-Cr-Ni and WC-Co-Cr surface-modified plungers. The greater the WC content of high hardness powder is less the change in the plunger surface.

  • AZ31과 AZ91 Mg 합금을 Na-P 및 Na-Si 전해질을 사용하여 전해질의 농도, 인가전압, 처리시간에 따라 여러가지 조건에서 PEO 처리하여 5%의 농도를 갖는 염수분무법으로 내부식성 연구를 하였다. 일반적으로 산화피막 코팅 두께가 증가하면 내부식성이 증가하였다. 코팅두께보다 산화피막 표면의 기공크기가 커지면 장기 내부식성은 나빠지는 경향을 보인다. 산화피막의 전체적인 산화물 결정상이 증가할수록, 또 MgO 결정상 대신 $Mg_2SiO_4$ 상과 같은 다른 결정상이 증가할수록 내부식성이 월등히 증가하는 것을 알 수 있었다.

  • Hydroxylammonium nitrate (HAN) 기반 액상 추진제는 발암물질이 아니며 연소가스 또한 독성이 거의 없어서 환경 친화적인 추진제로 주목을 받고 있다. 추력기에서 HAN 기반 액체추진제를 분해하는데 사용되는 촉매는 저온 활성 및 고내열성을 동시에 보유하고 있어야 한다. 본 연구의 목적은 metal foam 표면에 alumina slurry를 wash coating 방법으로 담지한 후, 루테늄(ruthenium) 전구체를 그 위에 담지하여 Ru/alumina/metal foam 촉매를 제조하고, 이 촉매의 HAN 수용액 분해 활성을 평가하는 것이다. Wash coating 방법으로 metal foam 지지체에 알루미나를 담지시키는 과정에서 wash coating 반복 횟수가 alumina/metal foam의 물리적 특성에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 알루미나 wash coating 횟수가 증가할수록 약 7 nm의 직경을 갖는 메조기공이 지속적으로 발달하여 표면적과 기공 부피가 증가하는데, metal foam에 알루미나를 코팅하는 과정을 12 회 반복하는 것이 최적이라고 판단하였다. 이 지지체에 Ru을 담지한 Ru/alumina/metal foam 촉매의 표면에도 메조기공이 잘 발달하였다. 활성금속과 알루미나를 담지하지 않은 metal foam 자체만으로도 HAN 수용액의 분해반응을 촉진할 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. Ru/alumina/metal foam-550촉매의 경우는 열분해 반응에 비해서 분해개시온도를 큰 폭으로 낮추었고, ${\Delta}P$를 크게 증가시킬 수 있어서, HAN 수용액 분해 반응에서 우수한 활성을 보였다. 그러나 이 촉매를 $1,200^{\circ}C$에서 소성하면 반응 활성이 저하되는데 이는 촉매의 표면적과 기공 부피가 급격하게 감소하고 Ru이 소결되기 때문이다. 추가적인 연구를 통해서 Ru/alumina/metal foam의 내열성을 개선할 필요성이 있다.

나노합성 세라믹계 도장재를 도포한 콘크리트의 내구성능 (Durability Characteristics of Concrete with Nano Level Ceramic Based Coating)

  • 본 연구에서는 환경에 유해한 휘발성 유기화합물 (VOC)을 사용하지 않은 나노합성 세라믹 도장재를 도포한 콘크리트의 내구성 증진 효과를 평가하기 위하여 건조상태 부착강도 실험, 습윤상태 부착강도 실험, SEM 촬영, MIP 분석, 탄산화 촉진 실험, 전기적 촉진법에 의한 염소이온 확산실험, 동결융해에 대한 저항성, 내알칼리 실험 및 내염수성 실험을 실시하여 기존의 표면처리제와 비교 평가하였다. 부착강도 측정 결과 나노합성 세라믹 도장재가 건조상태 및 습윤상태에서 가장 이상적인 결과를 나타내었는데 이는 가수분해와 중축합반응을 통하여 무기질계 세라믹 구조를 형성한 나노합성 세라믹이 콘크리트 내의 C-A-S (calcium silicate aluminate)나 C-S-H (calcium silicate hydrate)와 같은 수화물과의 수소결합을 통해 콘크리트 표면과 일체화되어 나타난 결과로 판단된다. 또한 SEM 및 MIP 분석의 결과를 통해 미세한 공극을 가진 표면 조직을 보여주었다. 그리고 탄산화 및 염소이온 확산 실험과 동결융해 저항성에서 기존의 유기도장재를 능가하는 결과를 보였으며 내알칼리성 및 내염수성 실험에서도 좋은 성능을 나타내었다. 이상의 결과를 통해 기존의 휘발성 유기화합물을 사용하는 유기도장재의 대안으로써 해안 구조물, 하수 처리장 등 콘크리트 구조물의 내구성 향상을 위한 나노합성 세라믹 도장재의 사용이 기대된다.

초고속 용사 적용 고속 초고압 왕복동 펌프 플런저의 내구성 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Characteristics of Durability for Plunger of High Speed and Ultra-High Pressure Reciprocating Pump Using High Velocity Oxygen Fuel Spraying)

  • The high velocity oxygen fuel spraying (HVOF) is a kind of surface modification process technology to form the sprayed coating layer after spraying the powder to molten or semi-molten state by the ultra-high speed at the high-temperature heat source and conflicting with a substrate. It is desirable to melt completely the thermal spray powder in order to produce the coating layer with an optimal adhesion, however, because a semi-molten powder in a spray process has the low efficiency and become a factor that degrades the mechanical property by the inducement of pore-forming within the coating layer. To improve the wear resistance, corrosion resistance and heat resistance, in this study, the plungers of high-speed and ultra-high pressure reciprocating hydraulic pumps for oil and water used in ironwork are produced with $420J_2$ and the coating layers of plungers are formed by the powders of WC-Co-Cr and WC-Cr-Ni including the high hardness WC. The surface of these plungers is modified by the super-mirror face grinding machine using variable air pressure developed in this laboratory, and then the characteristics of cross-sectional microstructure, and surface roughness and hardness values between no operation and 100 days-operation are examined and made a comparison. The fine tops and bottoms on surface roughness curve of oil-hydraulic pump plunger sprayed by WC-Cr-Ni are molded more and higher than those of water-hydraulic pump sprayed by WC-Co-Cr because the plunger diameter of oil-hydraulic pump is 0.4 times smaller than that of water-hydraulic pump and the pressure of oil-hydraulic pump exerted on the plunger is operated with the 70 bars higher than that of water-hydraulic pump. As a result, it is found that the values of centerline average surface roughness and maximum height for oil-hydraulic pump plunger are bigger than those of water-hydraulic pump plunger.

Effect of Power Mode of Plasma Anodization on the Properties of formed Oxide Films on AZ91D Magnesium Alloy

  • The passivation of AZ91D Mg alloys by plasma anodization requires deliberate choice of process parameters due to the presence of large amounts of structural defects. We study the dependence of pore formation, surface roughness and corrosion resistance on voltage by comparing the direct current (DC) mode and the pulse wave (pulse) mode in which anodization is performed. In the DC plasma anodization mode, the thickness of the electrolytic oxide film of the AZ91D alloy is uneven. In the pulse mode, the thickness is relatively uniform and the formed thin film has a three-layer structure. The pulse mode creates less roughness, uniform thickness and improved corrosion resistance. Thus, the change of power mode from DC to pulse at 150 V decreases the surface roughness (Ra) from $0.9{\mu}m$ to $0.1{\mu}m$ and increases the corrosion resistance in rating number (RN) from 5 to 9.5. Our study shows that an optimal oxide film can be obtained with a pulse voltage of 150 V, which produces an excellent coating on the AZ91D casting alloy.
