Established in the lower reaches of the Nakdong river in Busan, the Noksan national industrial complex is one of the deepest soft ground areas in Korea. In case of the costal landfill having deep soft ground, there is a significant residual settlement over a long period of time. In this study, there was observed ground subsidence occurred in the Noksan national industrial complex from September 2002 to April 2007 by applying DInSAR and SBAS time series method using RADARSAT-1 and Envisat SAR datasets. As a result, it was calculated that ground subsidence developed at the velocity of about maximum 10 cm/yr and mean 6 cm/yr at the eastern center, west, western center and southern area contiguous on the coastline of the study area during the period from September 2002 to April 2007. In addition, the RADARSAT-1 average displacement map has been compared with the total displacement map observed by accurate magnetic probe extensometer during the period from 2001 to 2002. Since the time series displacement has shown a linear trend mostly, we consider that continuous monitoring should be needed until the ground subsidence of the study area has been stabilized.

Few researches related to the spatial determination of areas where red tide occurs have been performed, so accurately determining the area where red tide occurs and disappears poses difficulties. Therefore, a more objective and scientific method is necessary to analyze the occurrence and movement of red tide based on a geo-spatial information system. In this study, the coastline was extracted using a digital topographic map in order to examine areas where red tide occurs each year. An analysis of red tide occurrence areas, which were determined based on red tide data for the last several years, showed that only Yeoja bay had almost a zero case of red tide of the areas studied, whereas Dolsando in the South Sea and NamHaedo Aenggang bay areas exhibited the highest frequency of red tide occurrences. Based on these results, by using a system that determines the geo-spatial distribution status of areas repeatedly hit by red tide every year, it would be possible to predict the course of red tide and prevent consequent damages.
The estuary has a very complex coastline and bottom topography. Before the close of floodgate, the Keum river estuary was deposited with sediment from the Keum river, created bythe construction of the Keum river estuary dike. So, a periodical dredging is necessary to assure water depth for boat entry and departure to Kunsan port. Theof this study is to find the change of tidal current of M2tide and the topography before and after construction at the Geum River estuary dike. The change of water depth is investigated by digitizing the sea map (No.305) of Kunsan port, which was edited by National Oceanographic Research Institute. The calculated co-range and co-tidal charts of M2tide before the dike construction are similar to the observed ones. Therefore, the amplitude and phase after construction at Geum River estuary dike increases compared to before construction at Geum River estuary dike. The scour occurred in the A-A' section.
Until now, most of the Web GIS system has been developed with one-sided service type that provides pre-built spatial information to users. Recently, however, interactive web system is getting attention because users can create directly spatial information contents that meet their needs. In line with this trend, this study had a aim to develop a UGC(User Generated Contents) support system for marine science researchers who can generate spatial data by themselves on the web. The main advantage of this system is that it provides marine survey data and marine spatial information that needed to work for marine science research. Furthermore, it provides the functions of extracting of coastline as point data for their marine study area, and making of the spatial planning map for marine field survey work and marine science thematic maps for exploratory analysis after research survey. Such kinds of interactive UGC support system gives researchers a chance for utilizing marine spatial information more easily. Therefore, it is expected that the improving of the efficiency of research works, as well as increasing of the utilization of marine spatial data.

In this paper, an adaptive Bayesian approach to image segmentation was developed for boundary detection. Both image intensities and texture information were used for obtaining better quality of the image segmentation by using the C programming language. Fuzzy c-mean clustering was applied fer the conditional probability density function, and Gibbs random field model was used for the prior probability density function. To simply test the algorithm, a synthetic image (256$\times$256) with a set of low gray values (50, 100, 150 and 200) was created and normalized between 0 and 1 n double precision. Results have been presented that demonstrate the effectiveness of the algorithm in segmenting the synthetic image, resulting in more than 99% accuracy when noise characteristics are correctly modeled. The algorithm was applied to the Antarctic mosaic that was generated using 1963 Declassified Intelligence Satellite Photographs. The accuracy of the resulting vector map was estimated about 300-m.
Numerous water disasters have recently occurred all over the world, including South Korea, due to global climate change in recent years. As water-related disasters occur extensively and their sites are difficult for people to access, it is necessary to monitor them using satellites. The Ministry of Environment and K-water plan to launch the next-generation medium satellite No. 5 (water resource/water disaster satellite) equipped with C-band synthetic aperture radar (SAR) in 2025. C-band SAR has the advantage of being able to observe water resources twice a day at a high resolution both day and night, regardless of weather conditions. Currently, RADARSAT-2 and Sentinel-1 equipped with C-band SAR achieve the purpose of their launch and are used in various environmental fields such as forest structure detection and coastline change monitoring, as well as for unique purposes including the detection of flooding, drought and soil moisture change, utilizing the advantages of SAR. As such, this study aimed to analyze the characteristics of the next-generation medium satellite No. 5 and its application in environmental fields. Our findings showed that it can be used to improve the degree of precision of existing environmental spatial information such as the classification accuracy of land cover map in environmental field works. It also enables us to observe forests and water resources in North Korea that are difficult to access geographically. It is ultimately expected that this will enable the monitoring of the whole Korean Peninsula in various environmental fields, and help in relevant responses and policy supports.
The box-counting(BC) method is one of the most commonly used methods for fractal dimension calculation of binary images in the fields of Engineering, Science, Medical Science, Geology, etc due to its simplicity and reliability. It deals with only square images with each size equal to the power of 2 to prevent it from discarding unused pixels for images of arbitrary size. In this paper, we presents a more efficient BC method based on the original one, which is applicable to images of arbitrary size. The proposed approach allows the number of the counting boxes to be real to improve the estimation accuracy. The mean absolute error performance is computed on two deterministic fractal images whose theoretical dimensions are well known to compare with those of the existing BC method and triangular BC method. The experimental results show that the proposed method can outperform the two methods and assess the complexity of coastline images of Korea and Chodo island taken from the Google map.

On the basis of the topographic maps in the 1910's and 1990's and the classification map of Landsat TM satellite image photographed on Sept 1, 1996, the spatial distribution and the current situation concerning tidal flats in Korea were studied by measuring the area with GIS Arc/Info system and examining the regional condition required to develop the tidal flats. The results are as follow; The tidal flat resources in Korea cover an area of about 3800 square meters, including the reclaimed one since the 1910's. And they are widely distributed in the west coast of South Jeonla, Kyunggi bay, Asan bay, the south coast of South Jeonla, Kunsan bay, Chunsoo bay, and the coast of South Kyungsang and Pusan when put in the order from bigger area. Given the area under the construction at present, more than 50% of the tidal flats are reclaimed ones. The tidal flats are being developed especially in Kyunggi and Asan bays because they perfectly measure up to the conditions required. For Kunsan bay, a remarkably good supply system of the alluvial sedimentary materials and a favorable coastline requirement for the coast of the South Jeonla also contribute to the development of the tidal flats. In the case study of Kunsan bay, it was shown that the shape of the tidal flat is making a continuous change and the area is getting bigger in terms of the multi-temporal change of the tidal flat development. However, while in the first half of the 20th century, the increasing rate of the area was considered to be rather high, it is considerably lowered almost to a standstill in the latter half of the century.

The potential change of the cultivation area of main citrus cultivars, satsuma mandarin (Citrus unshiu Marc.) and 'Shiranuhi' mandarin hybrid [(Citrus unshiu ${\times}$ C. sinensis) ${\times}$ C. reticulata] were determined with base year (1981 to 2010) to 2090. The meteorological data provided by the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), and the digital agricultural climate map of 30m-solution based on the Representative Concentration Pathways (RCP) 8.5 was used for projection of potential cultivation area. As a result, the potential suitable region of satsuma mandarin included almost Jeju region during base year. At the 2030s, the potential suitable region of satsuma mandarin increased and the cultivable region also increased focused on the coast region of Jeonnam province. From the 2060s, the suitable area spread out to mountain area of Jeju, Jeonnam, Gyeongnam, and the coast region of Kangwon, and the cultivable region expanded to the area of Gyeongbuk, Chungnam, and Jeonbuk. In the case of 'Shiranuhi' mandarin hybrid, the suitable region included only the partial coast area of Jeju, and cultivable area covered Jeju region and the partial southern coast of Jeonnam during the standard period. At the 2030s, the suitable region of 'Shiranuhi' included the current cultivation area of satsuma mandarin, and the cultivable region moved to northward by the partial southern coast region. At the 2090s, the slightly increased suitable region covered all Jeju regions, Jeonnam, Gyeongnam, and the coast area of Kangwon, and the cultivable region proceeded northward focusing on the coastline. In conclusion, the prediction of the potential land for citrus cultivation based on the RCP 8.5 showed that the suitable region of satsuma mandarin decreased, whereas that of cultivation of 'Shiranuhi' increased. Moreover, it was forecasted that citrus cultivation area would extend to Kangwon region at the end of the $21^{st}$ century.
Korean Peninsula is surrounded by ocean on three sides. Because of this geographical quality over 97% of export and import volumes are exchange by sea. Foreign ship and international passenger vessels carries foreign tourist and globalization and internationalization increases this trends. Leisure population grows with national income increase and interest of ocean. And accidents and incidents rates are also increases. Korea Coast Guard's jurisdiction area is 4.5 times bigger than our country. The length of coastline is 14,963km including islands. One patrol vessel is responsible for 24,068km and one coast guard substation is responsible for 94km. Efficient patrol activities can not be provided. This research focus on this problem. Analyze the status and trends of maritime crime and suggest efficient patrol activities. To deal with increasing maritime crime rate this study suggest to use geographical profile method which developed early 1900s in USA. This geographical profile analyse the spatial characteristic and mapping this result. With this result potential crime zone can be predicted. One of the result is hot spot management which gives data about habitual crime zone. In Korea National Police Agency adopt this method in 2008 and apply on patrol and crime prevention activity by analysis of different criteria. Korea National Police Agency analyse the crime rate with crime type, crime zone and potential crime zone, and hourly, regionally criteria. Korea Coast Guard need to adopt this method and apply on maritime to make maritime crime map, which shows type of crime with regional, periodical result. With this geographical profiling we can set a Criminal Point which shows the place where the crime often occurs. The Criminal Points are set with the data of numerous rates such as homicide, robbery, burglary, missing, collision which happened in ocean. Set this crime as the major crime and manage the data more thoroughly. I expect to enhance the reinforcement of marine crime using this Criminal Points. Because this points will give us efficient way to prevent the maritime crime by placing the patrol vessel where they needed most.
