DGPS service analysis in the korean coastal ferry route (국내 연안 여객선 항로에서의 DGPS 서비스 분석)

  • Based on the DGPS radio wave measurement in the coast of the yellow-sea, south-sea and east-sea, the DGPS service regions in the korean coastal ferry route are analyzed in this paper. The impact of obstacles on the propagation due to the archipelago and island regions are measured and analyzed in the point of service region. The ocean-based DGPS reference stations provide the wide DGPS ocean service regions with signal strength more than $40dB{\mu}V/m$ and signal-to-noise ratio more than 10 dB. Based on the overlapping of the service regions between the DGPS reference stations, the DGPS services with good quality are provided in the coastal ferry route segments. In case of regions where the propagation obstacles are scattered, the increasingly good service can be provided under conditions of output power reinforcement and antenna efficiency enhancement.

  • The tendency of erosion and accretion of the coast has occurred by the wanton development of a shore so that establishing the plans of nature preservation and development according to shoreline change is in demand. In this study, six DGPS positioning are executed in the periodic interval of about 2 months to choose coastal area of Gangnung, Gangwon-do and the observation data which is post-processed about 50cm accuracies on the Gangnung regular service is compared with digital map in 1998 and digital chart in 2006. Comparing DGPS values with shoreline of digital map, we know that erosion has occurred locally around training dike placed in Gangmun harbor and in southern Namhangjin, many accretions has happened near the breakwater of Namhangjin region and partial accretion is occurring in the other area. Therefore DGPS which is an acquisition method suitable for GIS data input is in use to collect the horizontal data and it could be used effectively to measure the shoreline change of time series through the long-term continuous observation by the coastal development.

  • The more larger and heavier the ship, the more accidents happen in the ocean and coastal area. The IMO, IALA and ITU finalized the technical standardization process regrading performance standard and technical characteristic of Universal Ship-borne AIS. Korean government are going to setup AIS system in the coastal area in three years. To construct AIS service efficiently in Korean water, The authority should consider requirements about several things. This paper presents the consideration of our domestic AIS in view of investigation of international standard and requirements of ours.
