Development of Defogger Equipped with a Roller Horsehair Brush

  • In order to remove fog often causes various troubles in our daily lives, the novel defog blower equipped the roller brush made of recycled horse's mane hair was developed. This work presents the overview of new defog devices and the experimental data obtained at two different kinds of defogging experiments. In the model experiment carried out at the enclosed cleanroom ($W5.9m{\times}L5.1m{\times}H2.4m$) targeted a vinyl house, fog was dissipated in less than 30 seconds in case with wind entrainment and two minutes 45 seconds in case without wind entrainment after running of the newly designed defog blower. When the demisting blower was run in a duct, it has an excellent mist sweeping qualities as well as a great removal effect for the background particles (89.5% and 65.4% scavenging rates for fine and coarse particles, respectively). It can be therefore said that the mist eliminator presented in this paper is ideal for use in the sealing space like a vinyl house and the industrial sites where required to remove both harmful mist and particle.

동해안 해빈(노봉 해빈) 환경의 Overwash Mark 퇴적물의 조직 특성 (Textural Characters of the Overwash Mark Sediments on the Berm of the Nobong Beach Environment, East Sea of Korea)

  • 우리나라 동해안 노봉 해빈 (Nobong Beach)의 남측에 해당하는 해빈 퇴적층 (체)에 대한 3년 동안의 동력적 계절 변화 (dynamic beach cycle) 연구의 수행 과정에서 관찰된 해빈 Overwash Mark와 이러한 Overwash 퇴적물의 조직 성질 (textural character)을 규명하였다. Overwash Mark 퇴적물 (OMS)의 조직 성질 또는 특징을 규명하기 위하여 OMS가 발달되는 해빈 환경 구분으로서의 Backshore (berm)와 Swash zone에서 퇴적물을 채취하여 입도 분석과 광물 성분 분석 및 구형 -원마도를 측정하였다. 서로 다른 동력 환(파랑의 영향)에 지배되는 해빈 퇴적물의 퇴적 조직 특성은 해빈 동력 환경을 좀더 자세히 이해하고 해석하는데 중요한 요인(factor)인 바, OMS 조직 특성 분석 결과의 하나로서 Swash -backwash)$\longrightarrow$Berm$\longrightarrow$Overwash mark의 순으로 퇴적물의 입자가 조립화(increasing of coarse-grained particle)되는 경향을 제시한다.

급속응고한 Ag-Sn-In 합금의 산화반응에 미치는 Sn-In 첨가량 비율에 관한 연구 (The Study of the Sn-In Ratio on the Oxidation Reaction of Rapidly Solidified Ag-Sn-In Alloys)

  • Contact materials are widely used as electrical parts. Ag-Cd alloy has a good wear resistance and stable contact resistance. But the Cd exists as coarse oxide in alloy so it have an effect on mechanical properties badly. Moreover, the Cd is an injury material to environment. Nowadays, the use of Cd is strictly restricted. Because of these disadvantage, Ag-Sn-In alloy has been developed. In Ag-Sn-In alloy, the Sn : In ratio affects the internal oxidation properties, such as the formation of the oxide layer on the surface. In this work, we changed and optimized the Sn : In ratio variety for good internal oxidation properties. We have shown that a internal oxidation process did not fully completed when the Sn : In ratio is over 4 : 1 because of the Sn oxide layer at surface. The increase of In decelerates the formation of Sn oxide layer.

DEVELOPMENT AND TESTING OF MEDIUM CAPACITY GRAIN FLOUR SEPARATOR

  • A power operated 90.5 hp electric motor) grain flour separator was designed and developed for separation of grain (wheat, corn, chickpea and soybean) flour into various fractions based on the size of the particles of the product. The separator agitating mechanism, feed control, cylindrical separator unit and an eccentric mechanism. The machine was tested for wheat ( variety ; Sujata) flour separation into four fractions, viz ; semolina, Gr-I and II, flour (coarse) and white (fine) flour. Wheat samples (6.8% m.c., db) were first pearled by CIAE pearler for 15.8% bran removal . The pearled wheat grains were then milled for semolina by a burre mill. The product and machine characteristics were determined at different capacities varying from 24 kg/h to 143 kg/h. It was found that 76 kg/h capacity gave reasonably best results in terms of purity and recovery of semolina vis-a-vis the market product. The energy requirement of the machine at no-load was found to be 230 W and at load c nditions, it varied between 36.3-6.4 KJ per kg of fead seperation. The macine could be used by small flour millers small/medium size traders and retailers and other processors for making available various flour products of different particle size in the market for ready use of the consumers.

Dust Monitor를 이용한 천안시 대기 중 PM10, PM2.5 오염특성 조사 (Characterization of PM10 and PM2.5 in Cheonan Area Using a Dust Monitor)

  • To characterize atmospheric particles in Cheonan area, 5 monitoring sites representing highway area, commercial area, residential area, and industrial areas were selected, and the mass concentrations of PM10 and PM2.5 were monitored for 14 days at each site during 2007. The daily average PM10 and PM2.5 concentrations were in the range from 18.5 to $140.9{\mu}g/m^3$ and 8.2 to $116.6{\mu}g/m^3$, respectively, showing the highest mean concentrations at the commercial area site and the lowest concentration at the residential area site. The daily average PM 10 concentrations at Shinan (Commercial area) and Bakseok (Industrial area) sites were exceeded the current National Standard for 1 and 2 days during the monitoring periods. The fractions of PM2.5 in PM10 were above 70% for all sites, indicating fine particles are the major constituent of atmospheric particles in Cheonan. The results indicate that PM10 concentrations in Cheonan are at the concerning level, and the control strategy for fine particles is necessary to address this issue.

차량용 에어클리너의 미세입자 제거특성 (Fine Particle Removal by a Vehicle Air Cleaner)

  • There is a growing interest to develop an eco-friendly air cleaner with high performance through a remanufacturing process. Two kinds of polyurethane filter media, a coarse (Filter-A) and a fine filter media (Filer-B), are used in this study to protect a vehicle engine from airborne particles. In order to improve the collection performance of the filters (Filter-A, Filter-B), an oil coating technology on the filter surface was introduced. As a result, inertial force is a dominant collection mechanism for a dry filter media, so that collection efficiency increases with increasing filtration velocity. However, intra-structure change of an oil-coated filter media influences on the collection mechanism, which shows a non-linear collection efficiency curve in terms of filtration velocity. The result shows that the developed filter media are eco-friendly and effective to protect a vehicle engine from airborne particles especially at low filtration velocity.

Al-Mg 계 다이캐스팅 합금의 미세조직 및 기계적 성질에 미치는 Mg 및 Si의 영향 (Effects of Mg and Si on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Al-Mg Die Casting Alloy)

  • The effects of Mg and Si contents on the microstructure and mechanical properties in Al-Mg alloy (ALDC6) were investigated. The results showed that phase fraction and size of $Mg_2Si$ and $Al_{15}(Fe,Mn)_3Si_2$ phase in the microstructure of Al-Mg alloy were increased as the Mg and Si contents were raised from 2.5 to 3.5 wt%. With Si content of 1.5 wt%, freezing range of the alloy was significantly reduced and solidification became more complex during the final stage of solidification. While there was no significant influence of Mg contents on mechanical properties, Si contents up to 1.5 wt%, strongly affected the mechanical properties. Especially elongation was reduced by about a half with more than 1.0 wt%Si in the alloy. The bending and impact strength were decreased with increased amount of Si in the alloy, as well. The lowered mechanical properties are because of the growth of particle shaped coarse $Mg_2Si$ phase and precipitation of the needle like $\beta$-AlFeSi in the microstructure at the last region to solidify due to presence of excess amount of Si in the alloy.

Effect of particle size and scanning cup type for near infrared reflection on the soil property measurement

  • The purpose of this research was to find out suitable soil sample preparation and sample holding tools for NIR reflection radiation for estimating soil components. NIR reflectance was scanned at 2nm intervals from 1,100 to 2,500nm with an InfraAlyzer 500(Bran+Luebbe Co.). Coarse(2.0mm) and fine(0.5mm) soil sample and various sample holding tools were used to obtain mean diffuse reflection of the soil for the calibration and validation of the calibration set in estimating moisture, organic matter and total nitrogen of the soils. Multiple linear regression was used to obtain the best correlation of NIR spectroscopy method. Correlation of NIR spectroscopy method. Correlation of NIR spectra for finely and coarsely sized soil did not show much difference. The standard errors of prediction(SE) using different types of sample holding tools for organic matter, total nitrogen and soil moisture were better than 0.765, 0.041 and 0.63% respectively. From the results it can be concluded that NIR spectroscopy with flow type cell could be used as a fast routine testing method in quantitative determination of organic matter, total nitrogen and soil moisture.

분무성형법에 의해 제조된 $Al-SiC)_p$ 금속기 복합재료의 미세조직과 성질에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Microstructures and Properties of $Al-SiC)_p$ Metal Matrix Composites Fabricated by Spray Forming Process)

  • 6061Al-SiCP metal matrix composite materials(MMCs) were fabricated by injecting SiCP particles directly into the atomized spray. The main attraction of this technique is the rapid fabrication of semi-finished, composite products in a combined atomization, particulate injection(10 $\mu\textrm{m}$, 40 $\mu\textrm{m}$, SiCP) and deposition operation. Conclusions obtained are as follows; The microstructure of the unreinforced spray formed 6061Al alloy consisted of relatively fine(50 $\mu\textrm{m}$) equiaxed grains. By comparision, the microstructure of the I/M materials was segregated and consisted of relatively coarse(150 $\mu\textrm{m}$) grains. The probability of clustering of SiCP particles in co-sprayed metal matrix composites increased it ceramic particle size(SiCP) was reduced and the volume fraction was held constant. Analysis of overspray powders collected from the spray atomization and deposition experiments indicated that morphology of powders were nearly spherical and degree of powders sphercity was deviated due to composite with SiCp particles. Interfacial bonding between matrix and ceramics was improved by heat treatment and addition of alloying elements(Mg). Maximum hardness values [Hv: 165 kg/mm2 for Al-10 $\mu\textrm{m}$ SiCp Hv--159 kg/mm2 for Al-40 $\mu\textrm{m}$SiCp] were obtained through the solution heat treatment at $530^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs and aging at $178^{\circ}C$, and there by the resistance were improved.
