  • This study is try to do the empirical tests on the relationship among innovation cycle, investment cycle, and business cycle suggested in recent economic growth models. We apply co-spectra analysis to estimate dynamic correlations in the extraction HP filtered variables and first difference filtered variables in our data set. Our empirical results are; (i) an existing asynchronization between innovation cycle and investment cycle, (ii) in the long frequency, an existing positive correlation between innovation cycle and business cycle, (iii) in the short frequency, however, a finding the high negative correlation between the two cycle. Our empirical findings support the recent growth through cycle models and suggest some economic policy implementations for economic stabilization during a severe business cycle.

  • NIR specroscopy is widely used today as a quantitative technique for predicting the chemical composition of various agricultural product. However there exist few application for seed quality assessment, especially for seed germinability. This study is to show the possibilities of a nondestructive estimation of germinability in radish (Raphanus sativus L) seeds. The experiment carried out on one radish cultivar (Chung Su Gung Jung, Nong Woo Bio Co., Ltd.) harvested in 1993. NIR(Foss Co.) spectral measurements were carried out on the seeds surface of flat side. The seeds after spectral measurements were planted on blotter individually and observed germination. The seeds were characterized to nongermination and germination group, which in turn grouped to normal and abnormal germination and then compared with the NIR spectra. The spectra from these seed groups were compared each other, The result suggested that NIR spectra could be applicable to determine radish seeds germinability.

  • The reverse osmosis membrane processes have several operational problems. Fouling by inorganic scale occurs on membrane surface due to increases in concentrations over solubility by retaining ions on feed side of the membrane. Inorganic scales could be controlled by antiscalants or acid addition. In this study, three antiscalants having different characteristics were selected and evaluated on efficiency of $CaCO_3$ scale control. The $CaCO_3$ scale was inhibited by the antiscalants : 0.4 mg/L for SHMP, 0.6 mg/L for Spectra Guard, and 3 mg/L for Flocon 150 N. Increasing concentration factors of simulated sea water resulted in increases in antiscalant doses for the scale control. The increases in doses were positively proportional to the concentrate factors used in this study. Spectra Guard, one of the polyacrylate type antiscalants, was the most effective to control $CaCO_3$ scale. The antiscalants with the different scale inhibition time and doses implied the different control mechanisms.

  • Gas permeation properties of simple gases(He, $H_2,\;CO_2,\;O_2,\;N_2,\;CH_4$) through plasma-polymerized films were investigated, and the chemical structure of the plasma polymers was analyzed by infrared spectra. The plasma-polymerized films were prepared by plasma polymerization of fluorine-containing aromatic compounds, and permeation measurements were made at $35^{\circ}C$, latm. The permeability coefficient of the plasma films decreased as the size of penetrant molecules increased. The plasma polymers showed higher $CO_2/CH_4$ selectivities than those of commonly used polymers, while $O_2/N_2$ selectivities were similar of slightly lower than those of common polymers. FT-IR spectra shows that the plasma polymers contain both aromatic and aliphatic structures.

  • Since the short-wave infrared spectrum has a significant range of variation depending on the production environment, countries with advanced resource exploration are collecting the spectrum and building a database. Representative organizations include the USGS and CSIRO, and they are currently carrying out a project in China that can synthesize and use a large number of existing data. The USGS library provides a total of 2,457 spectra targeting not only minerals but also various materials that respond to infrared radiation. Among these, there are 1,276 mineral spectra, which are about half of the total. The spectrum title includes information, such as analysis devices (NIC4, BECK, ASDNG, etc.), purity codes (a, b, c, d, u), and measurement methods (AREF, RREF, RTGC, TRAN). Analyzed raw data are provided in ASCII and GIF format. The CSIRO library has a total of 502 spectra, of which the majority, 493, correspond to mineral spectra. The USGS library is a free, publically available resource, while the CSIRO library is bundled with TSG8 or must be purchased separately. Among these, when comparing the eight spectra whose spectral shapes can be analyzed with the spectra of domestic illite, the positions of the absorption peaks are significantly different from those of domestic illite, except for one Japanese illite. Additional research will be needed to determine the causes of such differences, and the domestically relevant databases should be established as well.

  • Polymeric complexes such as M(Ⅱ)(PVPS)(SND), M(Ⅱ)(PVPS)(SOPD) have been prepared with monomeric complexes, M(Ⅱ)(SND) and M(Ⅱ)(SOPD)[M: Co(Ⅱ), Ni(Ⅱ), and Cu(Ⅱ)] and polymer PVPS. These complexes have been indentified by elemental analysis, spectroscopy, and T.G.A. From the results, it was found that M(Ⅱ)(PVPS)(SND), M(Ⅱ)(PVPS)(SOPD) complexes were penta-coordinated configuration. Electrochemical properties of these complexes studied by cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse polarography in 0.1 M TEAP-DMF solution at glassy carbon electrode. Co(Ⅱ)(PVPS)(SND) and Co(Ⅱ)(PVPS)(SOPD) showed irreversible two step reduction, such as Co(Ⅲ)/Co(Ⅱ) and Co(Ⅱ)/Co(Ⅰ), and Ni(Ⅱ)(PVPS)(SND), Ni(Ⅱ)(PVPS)(SOPD), Cu(Ⅱ)(PVPS)(SND), and Cu(Ⅱ)(PVPS)(SOPD) complexes showed irreversible one step reduction, such as Ni(Ⅱ)/Ni(Ⅰ) and Cu(Ⅱ)/Cu(Ⅰ), respectively.

  • A new approach of volatile compounds analysis is proposed using a linear ion trap Orbitrap mass spectrometer coupled with gas chromatography through an atmospheric pressure photoionization interface. In the proposed GC-HRMS/MS approach, direct chemical composition analysis is made for the precursor ions in high resolution MS spectra and the structural identifications were made through the database search of high quality MS/MS spectra. Successful analysis of a complex perfume sample was demonstrated and compared with GC-EI-Q and GC-EI-TOF. The current approach is complementary to conventional GC-EI-MS analysis and can identify low abundance co-eluting compounds. Toluene co-sprayed as a dopant through API probe significantly enhanced ionization of certain compounds and reduced oxidation during the ionization.

  • Using visible-near infrared(Vis-NIR) spectra combined with machine learning methods, the feasibility of quick and non-destructive classification of Convolvulaceae species was studied. The main aim of this study is to classify six Convolvulaceae species in the field in different geographical regions of South Korea using a handheld spectrometer. Spectra were taken at 1.5 nm intervals from the adaxial side of the leaves in the Vis-NIR spectral region between 400 and 1,075 nm. The obtained spectra were preprocessed with three different preprocessing methods to find the best preprocessing approach with the highest classification accuracy. Preprocessed spectra of the six Convolvulaceae sp. were provided as input for the machine learning analysis. After cross-validation, the classification accuracy of various combinations of preprocessing and modeling ranged between 43.4% and 98.6%. The combination of Savitzky-Golay and Support vector machine methods showed the highest classification accuracy of 98.6% for the discrimination of Convolvulaceae sp. The growth stage of the plants, different measuring locations, and the scanning position of leaves on the plant were some of the crucial factors that affected the outcomes in this investigation. We conclude that Vis-NIR spectroscopy, coupled with suitable preprocessing and machine learning approaches, can be used in the field to effectively discriminate Convolvulaceae sp. for effective weed monitoring and management.

  • The tetradentate schiff base ligand, N,N'-bis(salicylaldehyde)-m-phenylenediimine has been prepared from salicylaldehyde and m-phenylenediamine by Duff-reaction. The schiff base ligand has been reacted with Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), and Zn(II) to form new complexes; Cu(II)$[C_{20}H_{14}O_2N_2]{\cdot}2H_2O, Ni(II)[C_{20}H_{14}O_2N_2]{\cdot}2H_2O, Co(III)[C_{20}H_{14}O_2N_2]{\cdot}2H_2O and Zn(II)2[C_{20}H_{14}O_2N_2]{\cdot}4H_2O$. It seems to be that the Cu(II), Ni(II) and Co(II) complexes have hexacoordinated configuration with the schiff base and two molecules of water, while Zn(II) complex has tetracoordinated configuration with the schiff base and four molecules of water. The mole ratio of tetradentate schiff base ligand to Cu(II), Ni(II) and Co(II) are 1:1 but to Zn(II) is 1:2. These complexes have been identified by visible spectra, infrared spectra, T.G.A. and elemental analysis.
