The flow of $CO_{2}$ and $N_{2}$ gases through Asymmetric polytherimide Membrane

  • The asymmetric hollow fiber membranes were prepared by the wet spining of polyetherimide dope solution and the effect of hollow fiber structures on the permeation characteristics of carbon dioxide and nitrogen gases through these membrane were investigated. As the concentration of the $\gamma$-butyrolactone (GBL) in dope solution, acting as a swelling agent was increased, the structure of hollow fiber was changed from the finger to sponge type. The permeabilities of gases (CO$_{2}$, N$_{2}$) through these membrane were measured over the wide range of pressure under different temperature. The effect of water vapor on the permeabilities of gases was also investigated. The measured permeabilities showed the different characteristics depending on the structure of membranes. It was found that the flow through the pores were dominant over the polymers matrix. Blocking effect by water vapor in the pores of skin layer greatly improved the ideal separation factor of carbon dioxide/nitrogen.

Effect of Ether-Typed Alcohols on Pore Formation in Preparing an Asymmetrically Porous Polysulfone Membrane (다공성 폴리술폰 비대칭막 제조시 에테르형 알코올의 공경형성에 미치는 영향)

  • Various asymmetric Polysulfone membranes were prepared for a MBR process. Ether-typed alcohols (co-solvent) were added into a dope solution in order to control the pore size of membrane, whose effect on water permeability were investigated. Pore size of the prepared membranes were more affected by molecular-structure of co-solvent than by boiling point of theirs. With the increasing order of methoxy ($CH_3$-O-) < secondary propanol ($-CH_2$-CH(OH)$-CH_3$) < ethoxy ($CH_3-CH_2$-O-), water permeability of the prepared membrane increased. The phenomenon might attribute to the difference of molecularly steric hinderance of co-solvent (eg, Methoxy propanol, Ethoxy ethanol, Methoxy ethanol) in dope solution during the phase inversion. By the addition of ether typed alcohol into a dope solution, the pore size of MF (microfiltration) could be controlled. Also, Membrane prepared was applied to a MBR process and the system was stably operated for 2 months.

  • Porous PVDF hollow fiber membranes were prepared by hybrid process of TIPS(thermally induced phase separation) and stretching for membrane distillation. The tests were conducted to investigate that permeability of the membrane could be enhanced by reducing membrane wall thickness. During fiber spinning, dope discharge rate from nozzle was reduced and flow rate of bore fluid increased to make the wall thickness thinner. As dope discharge rate from nozzle was reduced and flow rate of bore fluid increased, the membrane wall thickness was reduced. As a result, air permeability, water permeability and vapor permeability of the membranes increased.

Electrical Conductivity Studies of Ethanol Oxidation over Zinc Oxide (전기전도도 측정에 의한 ZnO 상의 에탄올 산화반응 연구)

  • Changes in the electrical conductivity of gallium doped zinc oxide during the dehydrogenative oxidation of ethanol between 250 and $350^{\circ}C$ have been studied. Both dehydrogenation and dehydration of ethanol takes place on ZnO. At $300^{\circ}C$ and above formation of $CO_2$ was observed accompanied by an increase in the electrical conductivity. This seems to be due to oxidation of CO formed by the decomposition of acetaldehyde. Addition of oxygen to ethanol increases the amount of acetaldehyde formed, while no change is observed in ethylene formation. It may be that oxygen which is present primarily as $O^-$ provides a favorable site for the adsorption of ethanol and for subsequent hydrogen substraction.

Evaluation of Morphology and Water Flux for Polysulfone Flat Sheet Membrane with Conditions of Coagulation Bath and Dope Solution (응고조와 도프조성에 따른 폴리술폰 평막의 모폴로지 및 수투과도 평가)

  • In this study, to research effect of coagulation bath and composition of dope solution, polysulfone flat sheet membrane was fabricated by phase inversion method. PEG and PVP were used as additive. Concentration of polymer and additive, composition of coagulation bath was controlled to prepare flat sheet membrane. And then the morphology and water flux of prepared membrane were measured by FE-SEM and water flux testing apparatus. The highest value of water flux was measured at the membrane prepared under a 15 wt% PSF, 25 wt% PEG conditions, and water as coagulation bath. The pure water flux of the membrane composed of PSf/PEG was drastically decreased with increasing amount of DMAc. We confirmed that change of amount in additive and composition in coagulation bath influence the morphology and water flux performance of the membrane.

  • 이산화탄소($CO_2$)를 사용한 셀룰로오스 카보네이트 유도체의 제조 및 재생 셀룰로오스 섬유 제조와 관련한 기초 연구성과를 이미 발표한 바 있다[1~4]. 이번 연구에서는 일정한 조건에서 제조된 셀룰로오스 카보네이트 유도체를 10 wt% NaOH 수용액계에 용해시켜 방사용액(spinning dope)을 제조하고 일욕의 습식 방사장치를 이용하여 재생 셀룰로오스 섬유를 제조하였다. 이때 사용된 응고욕으로 황산, 초산, 인산 수용액계를 사용하였으며 제조된 각각의 재생 셀루로오스 섬유에 대해 물성분석을 하였다. (중략)
