Study on Exchange Coupling in Bilayer Systems using Co-Based Multilayer Thin Films (Co계 다층박막을 이용한 이중막에서 Direct Overwriting을 위한 교환결합 연구)

  • Co/Pd와 Co/Pd 다층박막으로 구성된 이중막 시스템에서 direct overwriting을 구현하는데 필수적인 교환결합 (exchange coupling)에 대하여 연구하였다. Co/Pd 및 Co/Pd 다층박막을 수직자성을 가지도록 하기 위하여 Co층의 두께를 4- .angs. 이하로 하여 전자빔 증착법으로 제작한 후 x-ray 회절 실험으로 구조 분석을 하였고, Kerr spectrometer, VSM을 사용하여 자기 및 자기광학적 성질을 조사하였다. 기억막과 기준막으로 구성된 이중막에서는 exchange coupling이 커서 자화반전이 두 박막에서 동시에 일어나며, 두 박막사이에 적당한 두께의 비자성 사이막(non-magnetic spacer)이 존재하는 경우에는 두 박막사이의 교환결합의 크기가 줄어들어서 두 박막의 자화반전이 분리되어 계단식 자화곡선이 생겼다. 또 비자성 사이막이 두꺼우면 두 박막사이의 교환결합이 사라짐이 관찰 되었다. 두 박막사이의 교환결합은 자구 기록 실험을 통해서도 그 존재를 확인할 수 있었다.

Impedance Spectroscopy Analysis of the Screen Printed Thick Films (스크린 프린트된 후막의 Impedance Spectroscopy 특성 분석)

  • In this study, we fabricate 3 wt% $Li_2CO_3$ doped $(Ba,Sr)TiO_3$ thick films on the Ag/Pd bottom electrode printed $Al_2O_3$ substrates for the LTCCs (low temperature co-fired ceramics) applications. From the X-ray diffraction analysis, 3 wt% $Li_2CO_3$ doped BST thick films on the Ag/Pd printed $Al_2O_3$ substrates, which sintered at $900^{\circ}C$, showed perovskite structure without any pyro phase. The dielectric properties of 3 wt% $Li_2CO_3$ doped BST thick films are measured from 1 kHz to 1 MHz. To investigate the electrical properties of 3 wt% $Li_2CO_3$ doped BST thick films, we employ the impedance spectroscopy. The complex impedance of 3 wt% $Li_2CO_3$ doped BST thick films are measured from 20 Hz to 1 MHz at the various temperatures.

Underlayer for Coercivity Enhancement of Ti/CoCrPt Thin Films (보자력 향상을 위한 Ti/CoCrPt박막의 하지층)

  • Sputtering conditions and various underlayer such as Al, Cu, Ni, Cr, Ag, Mg, Fe, Co, Pd, Au, Pt, Mo and Hf were investigated for coercivity enhancement of 20 nm Ti/CoCrPt thin films in order to increase the coercivity of the films thinner than 20 nm. Among them, Ag and Mg were effective to increase the coercivity. Particularly 2 nm Ag was very effective to increase the coercivity and nucleation field as well as to reduce ${\alpha}$ value in CoCrPt thin film such that the coercivity of 2 nm Ag/18 nm Ti/10 nm CoCrPt film was 2200 Oe. However, it seemed that other coercivity enhancement mechanism operated in CoCrPt films because Ti (002) preferred texture was not developed with Ag underlayer contrary to a general expectation. And the coercivity and nucleation field were decreased when glass substrate with rougher surface was used.

Analysis for the magneto-optical Kerr effect of metal multilayers by optical multiple reflection (다중반사에 의한 금속다층막의 자기광학 Kerr 효과 분석)

  • The magneto-optical Kerr effect due to the (Fe,Co)/(Pd,Pt,Cu,Ag) multilayer film is calculated considering of multiple reflection effect, and the calculated Kerr spectrum is compared to the reported experimental value. In case of Co/Pd, the reliance of composition and the variable tendency of magneto-optical Kerr rotation angle for Co thickness fully coresponds to experimantal and theoretical value. The theoretical Kerr spectrum of Fe/Cu and Fe/Ag multilayer films show the peaks near the Cu and Ag optical ansorption band in accordance with the experiment. But in case of Co/Pt, the increase tendency of Kerr rofation with decreasing wavelength reported by experiments could not be explained by the optical multiple interference. This difference of theoretical and experimental Kerr spectrum of Co/Pt film might be related with the change of electronic structure of Co and/or Pt from their bulk state.

  • The magnetic amd magneto-optical(MO)properties of Co-based multilayered(ML)films are known to vary sensitively according to the manufacturing methods and the film microstructures. Co/Pd and Co/Pt ML films with ultrathin layers of Co were prepared by alternating deposition in an ultrahigh-vacuum physical-vapor-deposition system. The individual layer thicknesses of the samples were estimated making use of the angular positions of x-ray diffraction peaks. The magnetic and MO properties were investigated, and correlated systematically to the structural parameters of the films. A Kerr spectrometer was self-manufactured to measure the MO properties such as Kerr rotation angle, ellipticity and reflectivity. The rms surface roughness was also measured using atomic force microscopy. Some of the samples showed good properties for MO medium, such as large perpendicular magnetic anisotropy and Kerr rotation, and perfect squareness of the magnetic hysteresis loop.

Time-resolved Observation of Field-dependent Magnetization Reversal Behavior in Co/Pd Multilayer Film

  • We report the experimental finding that there exists a transition of magnetization reversal process with varying the applied field in Co/Pd multilayer. We have measured the wall-motion speed V and the nucleation rate R during magnetization reversal via time-resolved direct domain observation, where the magnetization reversal process of Co/Pd multilayer is found to take a transition from thermal activation process to viscous process at the critical field of about 1.87 H$\_$C/ (coercivity). In the thermal activation regime, we find that the field dependences of two activation volumes for the wall-motion process and the nucleation process are different with each other, which reveals that the wall-motion and nucleation experience completely different interactions. In the viscous regime, we find that the wall-mobility is much smaller than a typical value for the sandwiched Co films, which implies that the Co/Pd interfaces in multilayer substantially contribute to the dynamic dissipation.

Perpendicular Exchange Bias and Thermal Stability of [Pd/Co]N/FeMn Films

  • Perpendicular magnetization curves and crystal textures of $[Pd(0.8 nm)/Co(0.8 nm)]_5/FeMn$ multilayers having an exchange-biased perpendicular magnetic anisotropy as a function of FeMn thickness and annealing temperature were measured. As FeMn thickness increases from 0 to 21 nm, the perpendicular exchange biasing field ($H_{ex}$) obtained the maximum value of 130 Oe at FeMn thickness 12 nm. As the annealing temperature increases to $240^{\circ}C$, the Hex increased from 115 Oe to 190 Oe and the exchange-biased perpendicular magnetic anisotropy disappeared at $330^{\circ}C$.

Anisotropy Coupling in Patterned Thin Films with Mixed Uniaxial Anisotropies

  • Anisotropy coupling in thin films with mixed induced and shape anisotropies is investigated. A 200-nm-thick Co-Fe-Pd-B thin film with a large induced anisotropy of 57 Oe is fabricated and then patterned into micron-sized cells to provide shape anisotropy, whose strength has a similar magnitude to that of the induced anisotropy for enhancing the anisotropy coupling. The angles between the two mixed anisotropies considered are $0^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$, and $110^{\circ}$. Hysteresis loops measured under in-plane magnetic fields along various directions indicate no anisotropy coupling behaviour for all the three angles examined in this study.
