Star formation activity of galaxies, along with color and morphology, show significant environmental dependence in local universe, where galaxies in dense environment tend to be more quiescent and redder. However, many studies show that such environmental dependence does not continue at higher redshifts beyond z~1. The question of how the environmental dependence of galactic properties have developed over time is crucial to understanding cosmic galactic evolution. By combining data from Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope Legacy Survey(CFHTLS), Infrared Medium-Deep Survey(IMS), and other surveys, the photometric redshifts of galaxies in CFHTLS W2 field were estimated by fitting spectral energy distribution. The distribution of galaxies was mapped in redshift bins of 0.05 interval from 0.6 to 1.4. For each redshift bin, the number density was mapped. The galaxies in high density regions were grouped into clusters using friend-of-friend method. The color of galaxies were analyzed to study the correlation with redshift as well as environmental difference between field galaxies and cluster member galaxies.

Users tend to check in and post their statuses in location-based social networks (LBSNs) to describe that their interests are related to a point-of-interest (POI). While previous studies on discovering area-of-interests (AOIs) were conducted mostly on the basis of density-based clustering methods with the collection of geo-tagged photos from LBSNs, we focus on estimating a POI boundary, which corresponds to only one cluster containing its POI center. Using geo-tagged tweets recorded from Twitter users, this paper introduces a density-based low-complexity two-phase method to estimate a POI boundary by finding a suitable radius reachable from the POI center. We estimate a boundary of the POI as the convex hull of selected geo-tags through our two-phase density-based estimation, where each phase proceeds with different sizes of radius increment. It is shown that our method outperforms the conventional density-based clustering method in terms of computational complexity.
We investigated mesozooplankton community in the Yellow Sea in summer immediately after the typhoon passed. Total mesozooplankton density ranged from 1,323 to 6,397 ind. m-3 and the biomass ranged from 3 to 28 mg C m-3 by stations. The dominant species of the research area were Paracalanus parvus s.l., Oithona atlantica, Acartia omorii, Oikopleuridae, Sagittoidae juvenile and Calanus sinicus in that order. Mesozooplankton community was divided into two groups by cluster analysis : the stations located in coastal and open seas as one group, and the stations located in the middle into another group. The number of species, density and richness of mesozooplankton were significantly lower in the middle region. Mesozooplankton density and biomass were not significantly correlated with chl-a concentrations, unlike previous studies in spring and autumn. This community characteristic in summer may be due to the passing of the typhoon, or other environmental influences.
This study examined the effect of the uptake of one and two electrons on the atomic structure of three isomers of $C_{20}$ clusters, namely the ring, bowl (corannulene like), and cage (the smallest fullerene). Geometry optimizations were performed using the hybrid density functional (B3LYP) methods for neutral, singly and doubly charged $C_{20},\;{C_{20}}^-,and\;{C_{20}}^{2-}$. These results show that the symmetry of the lowest energies for ring and bowl isomers were not changed, whereas the increasing order of energy for the cage (the smallest fullerene) isomers was changed from $D_{2h}\;<\;C_{2h}\;{\leq}\;C_2\;of\;C_{20}\;through\;Ci\;<\;C_{2h}\;<\;C_2\;<\;D_{2h}\;of\;{C_{20}}^-\;to\;Ci\;<\;C_2\;<\;D_{2h}\;<\;C_{2h}\;of\;{C_{20}}^{2-}$. The reduced symmetry isomers of the cage have comparative energy and the ground state symmetry of the neutral and single and double charged $C_{20}$ decreased with increasing number of electrons taken up in the point of energetics. Interestingly, the difference in energy between the ground state and the next higher energy state of ${C_{20}}^{2-}$ was 3.5kcal/mol, which is the largest energy gap of the neutral, single anion and double anion of the cage isomers examined.

The spin density of ${\beta}-MnO_2$ structure was theoretically investigated by $DV-X_{\alpha}$ (the discrete variation $X{\alpha}$) method, which is a sort of the first principle molecular orbital method using Hatre-Fock-Slater approximation. The used cluster model was $[Mn_{14}O_{56}]^{-52}$. The ${\beta}-MnO_2$ is a paramagnetic oxide semiconductor material having the energy band gap of 0.18 eV and an 3 loan-pair electrons in the 3d orbital of an cation. This material exhibits spin-only magnetism and has the magnetic ordering temperature of 94 K. Below this temperature its magnetism appears as antiferromagnetism. The calculations of electronic state showed that if the initial spin condition of input parameters changed, the magnetic state changed from paramagnetic to antiferromagnetic. When d orbital of all Mn atoms in cluster had same initial spin state as only up spin, paramagnetic spin density distribution appeared by the calculation. On the other way, d orbital had alternately changed spin state along special direction the resulted spin distribution showed antiferromagnetism.
The present study was carried out to apprehend that the pollutants originating from Jinhae Industrial Complex affect benthic polychaetous community in the northern Jinhae bay. An investigation on the macrobenthic community in Jinhae bay was conducted in September, December of 2002 and March of 2003. The benthic fauna showed mean density of 2,151 ind. $m^{-2}$ in September of 2002, 2,427 ind. $m^{-2}$ in December of 2002 and 2,394 ind. $m^{-2}$ in March of 2003. Major faunal groups are polychaetes, crustaceans and mollusks, corresponding to $73.7\%,\;12.0\%\;and\;11.7\%,$ in total mean density during all of the sampling season, respectively. The most abundant species was Lumbrineris longifolia $(24.85\%),$ followed by Tharyx sp. $(21.70\%),$ Mesochaetopterus sp. $(6.20\%),$ Heteromastus filiformis $(5.39\%),$ Prionospio sp. $(5.18\%),$ Clycinde sp. $(4.29\%),$ etc. Tharyx sp. was the highest abundant species in September of 2002, and Lumbrineris longifolia was the dominant species in another sampling seasons. The density and the species number of polychaetes were high around Chori Is. and poor near Jinhae Industrial Complex area. Cluster analysis based on the species composition showed that Jinhae bay could be divided into three regions except in March of 2003. In December of 2002, there are very distinct regions by the cluster analysis. The density of benthic polychaetes in Jinhae bay was higher than that in the other coastal area of Korea, due to the predominance by some of opportunistic species, such as Lumbrineris longifolia, Tharyx sp. and Heteromastus filiformis, etc. It means that the study area were in the process of organic enrichment.

This study classify the every meshes in Busan metropolitan city, based on the heat density and cooling/heating ratio. As the result of evaluations on the heat density and cooling/heating ratio for the 3289 meshes, the number of meshes which needs more than 2.5 Tcal/mesh.year of heat density is 850(25.8%). The meshes that needs more than district and cooling index 1, which is normally and strongly requested to introduce the district cooling and heating system, is 188(5.7%).

UBVI CCD photometry has been obtained for a region around the Wolf-Rayet star WR 12. We found two young stellar associations in the observed field: the nearer one comprises the field members of Vela OBI association at d = 1.8kpc, while the farther one is the young open cluster Bochum 7 (Bo 7) at d = 4.8kpc. The stars associated with Bo 7 showed no central concentration which suggests that Bo 7 is not a young open cluster but simply a local concentration in the density of young stars belonging to the OB association (Vel OB3). These two associations have similar ages but remarkably different mass function slopes ($\Gamma$ = -2.1 $\pm$ 0.3 for Vel OBI and -1.0 $\pm$ 0.3 for Bo 7). The stars in Vel OBI shows an evident age spread (${\Delta}T\~ 9Myr$). We also found two strong H$\alpha$ emission stars - WR 12 and $\sharp$1066 - from narrow band H$\alpha$ photometry.

Image segmentation is one of the important processes in the image information extraction for computer vision systems. The fuzzy clustering methods have been extensively used in the image segmentation because it extracts feature information of the region. Most of fuzzy clustering methods have used the Fuzzy C-means(FCM) algorithm. This algorithm can be misclassified about the different size of cluster because the degree of membership depends on highly the distance between data and the centroids of the clusters. This paper proposes a fuzzy clustering algorithm using the Average Intracluster Distance that classifies data uniformly without regard to the size of data sets. The Average Intracluster Distance takes an average of the vector set belong to each cluster and increases in exact proportion to its size and density. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach has the g
An investigation of fauna and community of insects in Gotjawal Terrain, Jeju-do, had been conducted with a way of black light trap from July to September, 2005. The investigated insects were classified into 217 species, 75 families, and 11 orders respectively. Coleoptera that occupied 55.3 percent among them and was consisted of 120 species was the richest group and Hemiptera followed it. The density of Physopelta gutta was highest but Physopelta cincticollis was overall the dominant species in all sampling areas. The species diversity index was highest at Jocheon-Hamdeog Gotjawal in Jeju-do, while it was lowest in Gujwa-Sungsan Gotjawal. Clustering analysis revealed that the insect communities of four localities were grouped in only one cluster. Included in the species unreported in Jeju Island were Menida musiva and Pentatoma japonica in Hemiptera, Philonthus wuesthoffi in Coleoptera, and Phanerotoma flava in Hymenoptera.
