  • Unsupervised learning is a type of machine learning, and unlike supervised learning or reinforcement learning, a target value for input value is not given. Clustering is mainly used for such unsupervised learning. One of the representative methods of such clustering is K-means clustering. Since K-means clustering is a method of determining the number of clusters and continuing to find the central point of the data allocated to the cluster, there is a problem that the clustered group may not be the optimal cluster. In this study, particle swarm optimization algorithm, which determines the motion vector by adding various variables as well as the center point, is applied to K-means clustering. The improved K-means clustering makes it possible to move toward better outcome values even when the center of cluster no longer change. In the conventional clustering method, the center of the cluster moves to the center of the data belonging to the cluster, and clustering ends when the cluster does not change, so other characteristics other than the center value are excluded. Unlike the conventional clustering method, the improved clustering method uses a central value, an average value, and a random value as variables, and a particle swarm optimization algorithm that modifies the vector for each iteration is applied. As a result, improved clustering method derived a better result value than the existing clustering method in the group's fitness index, silhouette score.

  • The Wireless Mesh Network(WMN) technology is able to provide an infrastructure for isolated islands, in which it is difficult to install cables or wide area such as battlefield. Therefore, WMN is frequently used to satisfy needs for internet connection and active studies and research on them are in progress. However, as a result of increase in number of hops under hop-by-hop communication environment has caused a significant decrease in throughput and an increase in delay. Considering the heavy traffic of real-time data, such as voice or moving pictures to adaptive WMN, in a military environment. Such phenomenon might cause an issue in fairness index. In order to resolve this issue, we proposed a Cluster Based Multi-channel Assignment Scheme(CB-MAS) for adaptive tactical wireless mesh network. In the CB-MAS, the communication between the Cluster-Head(CH) and cluster number nodes uses a channel has no effect on channels being used by the inter-CH links. Therefore, the CB-MAS can minimize the interference within multi-channel environments. Our Simulation results showed that CB-MAS achieves improved the throughput and fairness index in WMN.

  • Recently with increasing the use of parallel computing and cluster system which was connected high speed network, the interest about distributed and parallel file system is increasing. Specially, there are many researches, which focused on optimizing the performance of distributed and parallel file system for the more efficient use of cluster system. In this paper, we analyzed the performance of PVFS(Parallel Virtual File System) in small cluster system. In addition, to improve the PVFS performance we proposed the chancing the size of flow buffer according to the network speed and we optimized the PVFS performance on small cluster system.

  • At the end of 1999, the TeraCluster project in the KISTI Supercomputing Center was initiated to explore the possibility of PC clusters as a scientific computing platform to replace the Cray T3E system in KISTI by the year 2002. In order to understand whether an application is scalable to tera-flops sized cluster system, running test is inevitable. Extensive performance tests using well-known benchmarking codes with real applications' characteristics in them were carried out with different combinations of CPUs, system boards, network devices. The lessen learned shows the relationships between system performances and varied applications' different needs resulting in promises of How-Tos in building large scale cluster system. The 64/16 node clusters with Alpha EV6(466MHz), Pentium III(667 MHz) i inter-node network of Fast Ethernet. SCI[1] and Myrinet[2] were evaluated. More detailed specifications of the Linux clusters are described in Table 1.

  • Complicated and expensive seawater desalination technology is a big challenge in boron removal process. Conventional seawater desalination process of coagulation utilized for pre-treatment is difficult to remove boron. Boron can be removed more effectively in Reverse Osmosis (RO) process than any other processes. In this study, a coagulant with the name Mineral Cluster was examined its boron removal ability. Boron removal efficiency of Mineral Cluster depended on pH value and Mineral Cluster dosage. Desalination process combines the pre-treatment process with Mineral cluster diluted at the ratio of 1:2500 and the RO membrane process. The original sea water could be desalinated to drinking water quality, 1 mg/L, without any pH adjustments. Therefore, if the Mineral cluster is added without any other chemicals for adjusting pH, the desalination process would be much safer, efficient and economical.

  • It is important to efficiently elect the cluster header in Hierarchical Sensor Network, because it largely affects on the lifetime of the network. Therefore, recent research is focused on the lifetime extension of the whole network for efficient cluster header election. In this paper, we propose the new Cluster Header Election Scheme in which the cluster is divided into Group considering Distance from Upper Node, and a cluster header will be elected by node density of the Group. Also, we evaluate the performance of this scheme, and show that this proposed scheme improves network lifetime in Zigbee environment.

  • Wireless sensor networks are being used in various fields. Wireless sensor networks are applied in many areas, such as security, military detection, environmental management, industrial control, and home automation. There is a problem about the limit of energy that the sensor network basically has. In this paper, we propose the LEACH-CCBD (Low Energy Adaptive Clustering hierarchy - Centrailized with Cluster and Basestation Distance) algorithm that uses energy efficiently by improving network transmission based on LEACH-C among the representative routing protocols. The LEACH-CCBD algorithm is a method of assigning a cluster head to a cluster head by comparing the sum of the distance from the member node to the cluster distance and the distance from the cluster node to the base station with respect to the membership of the member nodes in the cluster when configuring the cluster. The proposed LEACH-CCBD used Matlab simulation to confirm the performance results for each protocol. As a result of the experiment, as the lifetime of the network increased, it was shown to be superior to the LEACH and LEACH-C algorithms.

  • In this study, the minimized on-board computer (OBC) module for integrated navigation is developed, which provides satellites' relative position information in formation flying and cluster operation situations. The scalability is considered to apply the user-selected wireless communication module and Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver for navigation, while considering to meet the structural design standard of nano-satellites. As a result of the product development and production, the processing speed of integrated navigation and real-time data synchronization is satisfied for cluster operation nano-satellites by using micro controller unit (MCU). From a heat/vacuum, vibration and radiation test, the OBC was confirmed to be operated in space environments. From these results, a mass production system of OBC was made which is a key part of development on satellite formation flying and cluster/constellation missions that the community demands are increasing.
