Fusaric acid is a mycotoxin produced by species of the fungus Fusarium and can act synergistically with other Fusarium toxins. In order to develop a specific detection method for fusaric acid-producing fungus, PCR primers were designed to amplify FUB10, a transcription factor gene in fusaric acid biosynthetic gene cluster. When PCR with Fub10-f and Fub10-r was performed, a single band (~550 bp) was amplified from F. oxysporum, F. proliferatum, F. verticillioides, F. anthophilum, F. bulbicola, F. circinatum, F. fujikuroi, F. redolens, F. sacchari, F. subglutinans, and F. thapsinum, all of which were known for fusaric acid production. Whereas the FUB10 specific band was not amplified from Fusarium species known to be trichothecene producer. Because production of fusaric acid can co-occur in species that also produce fumonisin mycotoxins, we developed a multiplex PCR assay using the FUB10 primers as well as primers for the fumonisin biosynthetic gene FUM1. The assay yielded amplicons from fumonisin producers such as F. proliferatum and F. verticillioides, allowing for the simultaneous detection of species with the genetic potential to produce both types of mycotoxins.

In this study, an algorithm that recognizes numbers from 0 to 9 was developed using the data obtained after tracking hand movements using the echo signal of a millimeter-wave radar sensor at 77 GHz. The echo signals obtained from the radar sensor by detecting the motion of a hand gesture revealed a cluster of irregular dots due to the difference in scattering cross-sectional area. A valid center point was obtained from them by applying a K-Means algorithm using 3D coordinate values. In addition, the obtained center points were connected to produce a numeric image. The recognition rate was compared by inputting the obtained image and an image similar to human handwriting by applying the smoothing technique to a CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) model trained with MNIST (Modified National Institute of Standards and Technology database). The experiment was conducted in two ways. First, in the recognition experiments using images with and without smoothing, average recognition rates of 77.0% and 81.0% were obtained, respectively. In the experiment of the CNN model with augmentation of learning data, a recognition rate of 97.5% and 99.0% on average was obtained in the recognition experiment using the image with and without smoothing technique, respectively. This study can be applied to various non-contact recognition technologies using radar sensors.

Since newly emerged disease, the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), spread from Asia to North America and Europe rapidly in 2003, many researchers have tried to determine where the virus came from. In the phylogenetic point of view, SARS virus has been known to be one of the genus Coronavirus, but, the overall conservation of SARS virus sequence was not highly similar to that of known coronaviruses. The natural reservoirs of SARS-CoV are not clearly determined, yet. In the present study, the genomic sequences of SARS-CoV were analyzed by bioinformatics techniques such as multiple sequence alignment and phylogenetic analysis methods as well multivariate statistical analysis. All the calculating processes, including calculations of the relative synonymous codon usage (RSCU) and other genomic parameters using 30,305 coding sequences from the two genera, Coronavirus, and Lentivirus, and one family, Orthomyxoviridae, were performed on SMP cluster in KISTI, Supercomputing Center. As a result, SARS_CoV showed very similar RSCU patterns with feline coronavirus on the both axes of the correspondence analysis, and this result showed more agreeable results with serological results for SARS_CoV than that of phylogenetic result itself. In addition, SARS_CoV, human immunodeficiency virus, and influenza A virus commonly showed the very low RSCU differences among each synonymous codon group, and this low RSCU bias might provide some advantages for them to be transmitted from other species into human beings more successfully. Large-scale genomic analysis using bioinformatics techniques may be useful in genetic epidemiology field effectively.

The feeding habits of Lycodes tanakae Eelpout were studied with 722 specimens collected from March 2011 to December 2012 in the coastal waters of the middle East Sea. The main prey of L. tanakae were fish, molluscs and arthropods. Nevertheless annelida, echinodermata and others were found in small amounts in the stomach contents. The L. tanakae stomach was empty of contents in 50.9% of specimens. While smaller size specimens of L. tanakae (less than 40 cm) fed mainly on euphausiids and amphipods, the larger specimens (more than 40 cm) fed on the fish Allolepis hollandi and Icelus cataphractus, and the molluscs Berryteuthis magister and Watasenia scintillans. The main prey items of L. tanakae varied seasonally. The fish Lycodes nakamurai was the dominat prey from November to January during its spawning season. Euphausiids and amphipods of the arthropods were the dominant prey from February to April. The molluscs Berryteuthis magister and Watasenia scintillans were the dominant prey from May to September. The diversity index (H') of diets showed variations by length class and month; the highest values were 2.61 in the length class of 51-55 cm, and the monthly highest were 2.68 in September with 23 species and 2.65 in November with 18 species. The highest dominance index (D') of diets was 0.57 in the length class of 31-35 cm, and the monthly highest was 0.71 in February. Cluster analysis divided prey groups into four groups by length class and three groups by monthly prey items. The gonad index gradually increased during the process of maturation while, contrary, stomach content index decreased during this period.
To investigate the causes of the thermal deformations of packaging materials when microwave-heating ready-to-eat sauce products packaged in stand-up pouches, patterns of temperature changes were determined using an infra-red thermal imaging camera, a thermo-sensitive tape, and a fiver-optic thermometer. The temperature distributions of spicy chicken sauce and Indian curry samples in a stand-up pouch were found to be uneven during micrewave heating. A sharp increase in the temperature was detected, especially above the filling layers and in the corners of sealing layers of the package. The temperature measurements using an infra-red thermal imaging camera are restricted to the surface, and therefore might underestimate the actual temperature. Using a thermo-sensitive tape, temperature up to $200^{\circ}C$ were measured in the spicy chicken sauce sample showing package deformation. When the temperature is measured using a fiber-optic thermometer, it is crucial to have precise sensor performance to accurately measure the temperature in a narrow hot-spot area of the package. In this experiment, the fiber-optic thermometer was attached to a GaAs crystal sensor, which obtained more sensitive and accurate temperature measurements than those by a convectional sensor.
The study examines the feasibility of hosting the International Wood Industry EXPO as a part of the effort to establish Wood Industry Cluster in Jeollanam-do. The provisional EXPO period suggested by the study is 30 days between July 23 (Saturday) and August 21 (Sunday) 2016 and the proposed venues are Namdo International Education Center, Woodland, and Woodcraft Center, Jangheung-gun, Jeollanam-do, and so on. According to the study, it is calculated that the expected investment cost amounts to around 4.5 billion won and the number of total potential visitors reaches 1,627,478. The study also predicts that the EXPO generates various economic effects and outputs that can be quantified as following; a production inducement effect equivalent of 344.5 billion won, an income inducement effect of 77 billion won, an employment inducement effect corresponding to 3,899 jobs, a value-added inducement effect equivalent of 143 billion won, and an indirect tax inductive effect of 32 billion won. Then, emphasizing the need for the organizing committee that can play an important role in managing the overall EXPO events, the study, based on the figures, concludes that the International Wood Industry EXPO 2016 is to be promoted at the regional and national level.

Seasonal changes in groundwater geochemistry exist in Ddan-sum island. In the farming season of April, the spatial distribution of ions explains that $Fe^{2+}$, Fe(total), $Mn^{2+}$, $Ca^{2+}$, $Mg^{2+}$, $SiO_2$, ${HCO_3}^-$, and ${NO_3}^-$ are high in the center of the island, but $Na^+$ and $K^+$ are relatively low and these high anions indicates the effect of fertilizer used for strawberry cultivation. Spatial variation of ion concentration is smaller in August than April because of low agricultural activity and heavy rainfall. Geochemical type of groundwater shows that the center of island has the characteristics of recharge zone but the rim area corresponds to a mixing zone between groundwater and stream water. According to the analysis of saturation index for Fe and Mn ions, hematite, goethite, and rhodochrosite under supersaturation have a possibility of additional mineral deposition, and siderite, $Fe(OH)_3$, manganite, pyrolusite, and pyrochroite under unsaturation may exist as a type of dissolved ion.

Variations in the species composition, biomass and size distribution of fisheries resources in the Uljin marine ranching area were investigated using trammel nets at two stations (artificial reef and natural rocky area) from 2009 to 2010. During the survey, a total of 74 species were sampled with a mean density of 132 ind./net and mean biomass of 21.56 kg/net. In the natural rocky area, a total of 45 species were sampled at a mean density of 202 ind./net and mean biomass of 28.81 kg/net, while in the artificial reef area, samples included a total of 56 species, with means of 62 ind./net and 14.30 kg/net. The dominant species, comprising over 3% of the total number of individuals, were Suberites ficus (30.8%), Ovalipes punctatus (19.2%), Paralichthys olivaceus (11.7%), Pleuronectes herzensteini (4.7%), Kareius bicoloratus (3.5%), Pseudopleuronectes yokohamae (3.5%) and Eopsetta grigorjewi (3.0%). The dominant species, in terms of biomass, comprising over 5% of the total biomass, were P. olivaceus (22.1%), S. ficus (18.7%), O. punctatus (7.2%), Hexagrammos otakii (6.6%), P. yokohamae (5.7%), K. bicoloratus and P. herzensteini (5.3%). A cluster analysis and non-metric multidimensional scaling (nMDS) analysis based on the Bray-Curtis similarity of fourth root transformed data for number of species and individuals, was divided into two groups: the artificial reef area (group A) and the natural rocky area (group B).
The objective of this research was to investigate the effects of planting date, root pruning and uprooting on growth, yield and budding ratio of 'Seolhyang' strawberry (Fragaria${\times}$ananassa Duch.). Planting dates of plantlets with 60 ~ 70 days old were September 7th, September 14th and September 21th. Root pruning rates were controlled to 25% (RP 25) or 50% (RP 50) before transplanting. In the uprooting treatments, the plantlets were pulled out on root media and were replanted into same bed at 10 days (UR 10) and 20 days (UR 20) after transplanting. The delayed planting dates of plantlet resulted in the suppressed growth of plant, reduced yield, and slight earlier appearance of flower buds. The RP 50 treatment showed the lowest value among root pruning treatments in growth and yield, but appearance of flower buds slightly fall behinds. The UR 20 treatment only made flower budding earlier by 6 days than non-treatment. All of root stress treatment was appeared to decrease vegetative growth and yield except the RP 25 treatment. Above results imply that strong root stress was required to emerge second flower bud earlier but which reduced overall growth and yield in 'Seolhyang' strawberry.
Norovirus (NV) with a variety of genotypes, a member of the family Caliciviridae, causes acute nonbacterial gastroenteritis in humans. We determined the nucleotide sequence of three open reading frames (ORFs) of a NV Korean strain and characterized the genetic relationship with others. The Korean strain designated Hu/NLV/Gunpo/2006/KO was isolated from the stool specimen of a 2-year-old female suffering from gastroenteritis. By performing reverse transcription and PCR amplification, three overlapping cDNAs were synthesized and used for direct sequencing. We found that like other NVs, this strain contains three ORFs: ORF1, 5,100 bp; ORF2, 1,647 bp; ORF3, 765 bp. Of 35 NVs, ORF1 had a level of genetic diversity lower than ORF2 and ORF3, of which the C-termini of the ORF2 and ORF3 showed a relatively high degree of genetic diversity. Phylogenetic analyses indicated that the Korean strain belonged to genogroup II, with Saitama U1, Gifu'96, Mc37, and Vietnam 026 being formed a single genetic cluster. The nucleotide sequence information of three ORFs of a NV Korean isolate will be useful not only for the development of a diagnostic tool and understanding of genetic relationship, but also provide important basic information for the functional analysis of their gene products.
