To study the effects of surface structure of fiber on the decrement of fatty soil removal at high temperature, the following variables were selected: controled and alkali-treated P.E.T.(polyester) fabrics and chopped fibers as substrates to estimate the detergencies, different aging methods of soiled substrates, and different washing temperatures and surfactant solutions. Radiotagged tripalmitin was used as soil and the detergency was estimated by means of liquid scintillation counting method. The results were as following: The surface of the fiber became rough with many grooves and the hydrophilicity of the fiber was increased and the structure of the fabric became loose by alkali treatment. While the detergency of alkali-treated P.E.T. fabric was better than that of controled P. E. T. fabric, there was no significant differences between the detergencies of controled and alkali-treated chopped fibers. These results indicate that the increment of detergency of alkali-treated P.E.T. fabric is mainly resulted from the changes of fabric structure and the improved hydrophilicity of fiber by alkai treatment. The detergency of tripalmitin was increased with elevating temp. below the m.p. of tripalmitin, was decreased around the m.p., and again was increased above the m.p ..It is considered that the decrement of detergency around the m.p. is due to the diffusion of molten tripalmitin into the grooves on fiber surface, the inner part of fiber, and between fibers. When controled and alkali-treated soiled fabrics and soiled chopped fibers were washed in the distilled water and in the Na-DBS solution respectively, below $60^{\circ}C$ detergencies of alkali-treated fabrics and chopped fibers were improved. However above $60^{\circ}C$ this result was reversed. Therefore these results are regarded as the effects of grooves on fiber surface at high temp. and improved hydrophilicity at low temp. by alkali treatment. When controled and alkali-treated soiled fabrics and soiled chopped fibers were hot-aged before washing, the detergencies of both species were decreased generally. Because the soil was diffused into the grooves on fiber surface, the inner part of fiber, and between fibers during hot-aging. The detergencies of hot-aged species were also decreased above certain temp.. These results suggest that the decrement of detergency at high temp. be resulted not only from the diffusion of soil into the grooves on fiber surface, the inner part of fiber, and between fibers, but also from the characteristics of surfactant solutions.
The purpose of this study is to provide the thermal comfort range according to the residential style and clothing level at radiant floor heating space, and compare the annual energy consumption and energy cost for each condition. Lower neutral point temperature has been stood for floor sitting style than chair sitting style, which appears that the thermal sensation was affected by local heat transfer between floor surface and the human body. The result of research indicates that neutral point temperature was in inverse proportion with the clothing level. It is interpreted that the increasing of clothing level results decrement of heat loss from human body, and is available to achieve same thermal comfort at lower room temperature. It was analyzed that the floor sitting style is more economical residential style than the chair sitting style, because the energy consumption of the floor sitting style is saved by 6.0% in average to compare with that of the chair sitting style. It is analyzed that energy consumption has been decreased by 13.5% with the clothing level of 1.2 Clo than with that of 1.0 Clo, and decreased by 18.0% than with that of 0.8 Clo, which explains that the energy saving can be achieved with the variation in life habit to increase the clothing level.

We investigate the immobilization of trypsin on chitosan nonwoven using glutaraldehyde (GA). The conditions for trypsin on chitosan nonwoven and GA cross-linking were optimized depending on different conditions. The order of GA cross-linking was determined by the activity of immobilized trypsin. The characteristics of chitosan nonwoven were examined by Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) and surface morphology analyses (SEM). Results showed that the optimal treatment conditions for trypsin on chitosan nonwoven were as follows: pH 8.5; temperature $37^{\circ}C$; trypsin concentration 15% (o.w.f); and treatment time 60 min. Those for GA cross-linking were: pH 10.0; GA concentration 3% (v/v); and treatment time 120 min. FT-IR analysis showed that GA was cross-linked on chitosan nonwoven. The SEM analysis also showed that trypsin was immobilized on chitosan nonwoven.

The purpose of this study is to propose the development of high quality electromagnetic wave shielding fabrics. Silver nitrate is used for polyester fabric as an electromagnetic wave shielding material. The effects of activators and electroless silver plating condition on the evenness and adhesion of silver to fabrics, are observed through the SEM micrographs. Surface morphology and wash-ability are measured using SEM. The results are as follows: The optimum weight loss by alkaline hydrolysis of polyester fabrics is about 20%. The optimum concentration of $SnCl_2$ and $PdCl_2$in catalyst reaction using $PdCl_2$ as an activator is 2.5g/L and 0.5g/L, respectively. The optimum concentration of dextrose to improve adhesion between the silver plating and fabrics is 45g/L. The optimum concentration of silver nitrate in the catalyst reaction, using $PdCl_2$ as an activator is 56g/L, respectively. The optimum plating temperature and time are $15^{\circ}C$ and 30minutes, respectively.
Immobilization of lysozyme on chitosan non-woven using glutaraldehyde(GA) was investigated. For this, 100 % chitosan non-woven was prepared as novel support for the enzyme immobilization. In addition, free lysozyme activity was examined depending on various pH and temperature by measuring time. Moreover, the optimum immobilization conditions depending on various pH, temperature, immobilization time and lysozyme concentration was evaluated. In addition, thermal stability and storage stability of immobilized lysozyme were measured. The characteristics of immobilized lysozyme was examined by FT-IR, surface morphology, and MTT assay. The results are follows: the optimal immobilization of lysozyme were pH 7.0, $25^{\circ}C$, lysozyme concentration 1.5 mg/ml, immobilization time 240 min. The immobilized lysozyme showed higher thermal stability than the free trypsin. The immobilized lysozyme activity was retained 80 % of its initial activity at $4^{\circ}C$ over 30 days of storage. The lysozyme was immobilized effectively on chitosan non-woven by observation of surface morphology.

Dansam (Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge) is a perennial plant that belongs to the Labiatae family and is characterized by red pigment found in the epidermis of its roots. Research on the dyeability of Dansam extract was performed with repeated trials under various conditions such as temperature, time, and mordant treatment. Silk fabrics were dyed with Dansam extract and mordanted with various agents such as Al, Fe, Cu, and Sn to evaluate the dyeability and functionality of Dansam extract; subsequently, the K/S value and the change of surface color were analyzed using a colorimeter. In addition, the dyeability of dyed fabrics (such as color fastness to washing, dry cleaning fastness, rubbing fastness and light fastness) and functionality (such as antibacterial activity and deodorization) were analyzed. The surface colors of all dyed fabrics were recorded and the results showed the presence of mostly YR series of colors; in addition, a GY color series appeared in the Fe pre-mordants of the silk fabric. The highest K/S values were recorded in Fe post-mordants. The washing fastness were Level 3 and Level 4; in addition, the dry-cleaning fastness showed excellent results at Level 4 and Level 5. The rubbing fastness was satisfactory at Level 3 and Level 4 and the light fastness was satisfactory at Level 4. The results of the measurements (that pertained to the antibacterial activity of fabrics dyed with Dansam extract) showed a 99.9% bacteria reduction rate of Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae. In regards to deodorization ability, dyed fabrics were found to have higher deodorization rates than those not dyed. The dyed fabric demonstrated exceptional deodorization qualities.
The natural dyeing of fabrics with myrobalan extract was investigated. After dyeing of silk, cotton and rayon with myrobalan extract, the dyeability of myrobalan extract was evaluated with the conditions of concentration, temperature, time, repeat-numbers, pH, mordants variables, the changes of dyeability and surface colors by methods of mordanting and color fastness. The wavelength of maximum absorption of the colored solution from myrobalan extract appeared at 272 nm. Therefore, the substance of myrobalan extract was verified as tannin dyes. The optimum dyeing of fabrics was carried out at 30%(o.w.f) dye concentration. Silk fabrics dyed with myrobalan extract showed the highest K/S value at the temperature of $80^{\circ}C$ when it was dyed for seventy minutes, while cotton and rayon fabrics showed the highest K/S value at the temperature of $90^{\circ}C$ when they were dyed for seventy minutes and thirty minutes, respectively. Dyeing operation was carried out in acidic dyebath of pH 3. The K/S value of silk fabric was higher in pre-mordant stage than in post-mordant, while the K/S values of cotton and rayon fabrics were higher in post-mordant stage. The surface colors of dyed fabrics were different according to used mordants: Al and Cu mordanted fabrics were dyed in yellowish colors, while Fe mordanted fabric was dyed in khaki-black color. Light-fastness of the color fastness was improved in Fe-mordant. Washing-fastness was relatively good, and dry cleaning-fastness of dyed fabrics was excellent.

The purpose of this study was to investigate thermal environmental factors, thermal clothing properties, and thermal sensation of the office workers in four selected office buildings in Seoul, and to determine the effect of thermal environmental factors and clothing insulation to the thermal sensation of the subjects. The subjects selected from each office were 5 males and 5 females at a time. Thermal environmental factors(DBT, GT, RH, MRT, $ET^{\ast}$) and clothing variables such as clothing weight per body surface $area(g/m^2)$ and estimated clothing insulation values(clo) were significantly different among each seasons(p<0,001). Means of $ET^{\ast}$ and estimated clothing insulation values of each season were as follows; Winter; $20.84^{\circ}C$$ET^{\ast}$ with 0.72 clo for male and 0.79 clo for female Spring and fall; $23.65^{\circ}C$$ET^{\ast}$ with 0.59 clo for male and 0.68 clo for female Summer; $26.00^{\circ}C$$ET^{\ast}$ with 0.47 clo for male and 0.53 clo for female. In comparison these data with ASHRAE Standard, the subjects were predicted to feel comfort-able in spring and fall, and slightly hot in summer and slightly cold in winter because of high and low clo respectively. But the result of this survey showed more than $80\%$ of the occupants were thermally comfortable at a given environmental temperature and clo.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the thermal resistance and the liquid/vapor water transfer characteristics of four waterproof and water vapor permeable coated fabrics with the ground fabric called nylon taffeta. In order to establish the experimental environment, outdoor temperature and humidity in Taegu during the last three years were examined and the experiment was performed at (1) $15^{\circ}C$, 50% R.H., (2) $20^{\circ}C$, 60% R.H., (3) $25^{\circ}C$, 65% R.H., which were the average standards in spring and fall. The test results were as follows ; 1. Among physical parameters, the thinner the thickness was, the higher the water vapor permeability was. But the porosity in thickness was not proportional to water vapor permeability linearly. 2. The thicker the thickness of specimens was and the smaller the bulk density and porosity were, the higher the thermal resistance. And the results also shown that the larger the temperature difference between the environmental temperature and the hot plate was, the more the difference of CLO values was apparent. 3. Since the contact angle of all specimens are above $90^{\circ}$, the all specimens have a good performance in waterproof. The more the specimens surface were rough, the higher the thermal resistance was. 4. According to the result of performing moisture transfer test using the simulating body skin-clothing-environment system, the humidity sensor placed in between the fabric and the environment detected the full saturation in 10 minutes after the experiment had began at $15^{\circ}C$, 50% R.H. and in 15 minutes after the experiment both at $20^{\circ}C$, 60% R.H. and at $25^{\circ}C$, 65% R.H. 5. ${\Delta}$ values of the humidity sensors placed in between the human body and the fabric and in between the fabric and the environment fluctuated repeatedly within the range of $20{\sim}40%$ at $20^{\circ}C$, 60% R.H., and $15{\sim}30%$ at $25^{\circ}C$, 65% R.H.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of cooling vests developed for farm workers harvesting red pepper in summer. The study was performed using the following two steps: 1) Climatic chamber test, 2) Field test. For the chamber test, a work environment was simulated as $33^{\circ}C$ and $65\%$RH, and the thermo-physiological and subjective responses were measured with and without cooling vests. Twelve young males participated as subjects. For the field test, three farmers participated while harvesting red pepper on the form, in summer. The measurements used were same as in the chamber test. Subjects were tested without any cooling vests, as a control. They were tested wearing vests with 2 frozen gel packs (CV2: Cooling area, $308cm^2$), and vests with 4 frozen gel packs (CV4: Sooting area, $616cm^2$). As a result of the chamber test, rectal temperature($T_{re}$) and mean skin temperature( $T_{sk}$) were lower in both CVs than in Control, and this tendency was statistically significant in CV4 (p<.05). Clothing microclimate temperature ($T_{clo}$) and total sweat rate (TSR) were significantly lower when wearing cooling vests (p<.05) Heart rate (HR) was also lower in wearing cooling vests than in Control, and the speed of recovery to the comfort level was faster when the subjects wore cooling vests. In addition, subjects felt 'less hot, less humid, and less uncomfortable' in both CVs than in Control. Field tests showed a similar tendency with the chamber tests. In particular, wearing the cooling vest was effective in restraining the raise of $T_{clo}$ on the back. It can be concluded that the cooling vest was effective in alleviating heat strain and discomfort in both the chamber test and the field test, despite the cooling area of the cooling vest being just $3.4\%$ of the body surface area ($616cm^2$).
