  • We have test chemical resistance and flame retardant properties of chemical protective clothing Fabrics by the ASTM and ISO standard methods. The flame retardant test results show that polyethylene is poor in flame resistance but fluoroelastomer add to decabrom is excellent in flame resistance. Especially, nowadays heat protective clothing for firefighters, which is aluminized film layers laminated to aramid fabric, show the excellent flame resistance. However, the chemical resistance test results show that aluminium is high corrosive in 4M NaOH solution alone. The problem of corrosion can be overcome by employing multiple barrier film. Also, based on the result of flame retardant test, duel skin of polymer barrier film add to aluminum film and single skin of fluorinated rubber with flame retardant materials seems to be fit for the chemical protective clothing. Also the thermal protection and heat transfer test results show that TPP and HTI is increased assured that the continued study on fire risk assessment & chemical resistance of chemical protective clothing fabrics will contribute to the upgrade the performances of chemical protective clothing fabrics.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the wearing acceptability of chemical protective clothing during fires and to provide basic data for the safety of firefighters. The results of the study were as follows: Wearer acceptabilities of chemical protective clothing under static movement (e.g., looking at the ceiling with maximum head bending, wrapping one's arms around oneself, sitting obliquely on the floor, and maintaining a crouching position) were 21.7%-47.8% lower than those of general uniforms. When wearing chemical protective suits, the acceptability under static movement was statistically low (p < .001). Wearer acceptabilities of chemical protective clothing under dynamic movement (e.g., running, lifting a heavy object (20 kg) up to the waist, lifting and moving a heavy object (20 kg) by 1 m, lifting a stretcher and walking forward, and lifting a stretcher and walking backward) were 19.2%-47.8% lower than those of general uniforms. When wearing chemical protective suits, the acceptability under dynamic movement was also statistically low (p < .001).

  • This study attempted to examine the characteristics of fashion cross-border e-commerce(CBEC) by analyzing about 35.7 million cases of customs clearance data received from the Korea Customs Service. The demographic characteristics of consumers and the features of products purchased from 2019 to 2021 were explored. Next, the association rules between products, brands, and websites were analyzed by men and women in their 20s to 50s. The results are as follows. First, women purchased more clothing products than men, and overall, consumers tended to purchase products at low prices every year. Second, the most commonly purchased products were T-shirts, bags, and other shoes. In the list clearance, the purchase frequency of international open markets increased for three years; in general clearance, the proportion of luxury brands was high every year. Finally, in the list clearance, the relationships between bags, other shoes, pants, and overseas open markets were significant, while the relationships between wallets, bags, and luxury brands were significant in general clearance. Based on this study, domestic companies participating in or competing against the CBEC market can develop appropriate strategies for merchandising and sourcing clothing products.

  • This study is on the consolidation process of the conservation process of fabric with golden thread found in relics. Gold film was glued to pieces of Korean paper and satin using hide glue, which is a natural adhesive and resin Paraloid B-72, which is a liquid type adhesive. This study examines the types and concentration of the adhesives that are appropriate for consolidating gold film on fabric. The advantage of hide glue is that it is harmless to humans and has a high stability. This glue is also believed to be the closest to the adhesive that was used when the relic was originally made. Its weakness is that it is stiff and weaker than chemical glues, but after being washed with water the adhesion level increases. Therefore, hide glue is appropriate in the following instances: a) when washing after consolidation b) when the substrate of gold threads are significantly damaged, and c) when treating greater sized relics that take a longer time to work on. However, Paraloid B-72 has a better adhesion and flexibility than hide glue, but tends to spread out into a greater area, and the area where it is applied tends to absorb less water than before the application. In addition, it is noxious and can be harmful in long-term exposure. Therefore, Paraloid-72 is appropriate in the following instances: a) when consolidating the fabric after washing, and b) when working on smaller relics and consolidating smaller parts of a relic. The necessary concentration levels for consolidants for gold film are 30% for liquid type hide glue and at least 10% for Paraloid B-72 in order for the gold film to stay intact on the fabric during washing, consolidation, exhibition, and conservation.

  • The most ideal textile conservation is to block oxygen and light from historical textiles. However it is not possible because historical textiles should be examined, cleaned, restored, and exhibited to find out its historical value. Most of excavated costumes were severely stained and soiled. They are dark yellowish brown in color. To reduce the extent and intensity of the staining and to recover the original color of gray fabrics, bleaching would be required. Conservation treatment was carried out on the 8 historical costumes which belonged to General Duk-Ryung Kim(1567-1596). Two of them do not hold the fabrics. They hold only cotton wool and a little piece of fabrics. Even though these costumes underwent the conservation treatment in 1979, they were stained and needed re-treatment. This time, they were dual-bleached using hydrogen peroxide and sodiumborohydride followed by wet cleaning to reduce the soils and stains. The treatments improved the appearance of costumes. Through the analysis of the trace of fabric, carbonized fabric fragment, and fabrics remained in other garments, we concluded the missing fabrics to be ramie or cotton. It is different result from the primary report concluded to be silk.

  • This study examined consumers' perceived anxiety regarding how safe the clothing and lifestyle products are as well as influencing factors. Data was collected using a self-ministered online survey of 1,126 adult consumers. The results of this study showed that consumer anxiety about chemicals and hygiene product safety had a greater impact on the anxiety perception of general safety than clothing and beauty products. It was confirmed that the reliability of information source (government agency, mass media, expert group, and internet community/blog) varies depending on the level of consumers' overall safety anxiety. The study also found the effect of consumers' subjective perception of health on safety anxiety about clothing and lifestyle products. Further, the moderating effect of age in the research model was confirmed. This result can be a useful guide to marketing communication for developing consumer safety-related policies to reduce consumer anxiety. The information will also help consumers make informed decisions that lead to safe and sustainable consumption.

  • This study analyzes the current educational curricula in the field of Clothing and Textiles in order to develop appropriate educational methods and courses. We reviewed the curricula offered by 58 Clothing and Textiles Departments at four-year universities in Korea. We analyzed the educational content of each curriculum by dividing all of the courses offered into eight categories. The analysis was based on the information posted on the universities' Internet websites, and the analysis was performed by using descriptive statistics. The results of this study are as follows: First, the educational courses of the Clothing and Textiles Departments are composed of, 36.2% design, 20.4% production, and 14.5% textile categories. In comparison with the results of a similar study conducted in 1999, emphases on the design, distribution, and marketing categories have increased, while the emphases on the production, apparel material, basic knowledge, and consumption science categories have decreased. Second, in the case of the apparel material category, basic knowledge of materials constituted 18.5%, the largest part of the category. The average number of units offered in the area of apparel materials by the 58 Departments was 17 units per year. The curricula were found to vary by regions of the country. The universities located in the Chungcheong region offer more textile material courses, but the universities in the Capital region offer fewer textile material courses than other regions. Departments that are affiliated with universities that emphasize Art and Design have more courses on basic knowledge, dyeing and finishing, and fabric design than other universities.
