This study was undertaken to investigate the factorial structure of clothing purchase motives, and to examine the relationship between clothing purchase motives, self-concept, and post-purchase clothing satisfaction of males. Questionnaire was comprised of three sections: 25 Likert type statements of clothing purchase motive measure; post-purchase clothing satisfaction measure; and three self-concepts measure(physical, personal, and social self-concept). For the measurement of self-concepts, a portion of‘Self-Concept Scale’by Wonshik Chung was used. Samples were 312 male white collar workers in Seoul, whose age were ranged from 20 to 39. the data were analyzed using factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. The results of the study were the followings: 1. Six factors of clothing purchase motives derived by factor analysis. 21 items having a factor loading of ± .40 or higher were given consideration in the interpretation of each factor: F.1‘clothing dsign’; F.2‘fashion and impulsive buying’, F.3‘clothing utility’; F.4‘others influence’: F.5‘financial margin’; F.6‘clothing’2. Male consumers perceived the purchase motive of‘clothing design’to be the most important,‘clothing deficiency’the second important, and‘others influence’the least important. 3. Physical, personal, and social self-concept had positive relations to the purchase motive of‘clothing design’and negative relations to the‘clothing deficiency’. Physical self-concept had negative relation to the motive of‘others influence’. 4. Male consumers high in physical, personal, and social self-concept had more positive attitude in the evaluation of post-purchase clothing satisfaction. 5. Post-purchase clothing satisfaction was influenced most by the purchase motive of‘clothing design’, and next by physical self-concept, and age. Age of subjects had negative relation to post-purchase clothing satisfaction. The explanatory power of the 3 variables was 19.9%.
The purpose of this study was designed a) to examine the relative importance for college students' clothing disposal causes and their factor structure: b) to test the effects of gender, clothing satisfaction and family income on clothing disposal determinants; and c) to assess the relationship between clothing purchase determinants and overall clothing satisfaction and clothing disposal determinants. Data (n=660) were collected from college students in Cheju Do. The survey questionnaire composed of a revised Clothing Disposal Determinants Scale, Clothing Purchase Determinants Scale and background variables. First, the most important reasons for clothing disposal were to unfit with body change, get washed our and raise nap on clothe, wornout with long-term use, do not ware for new purchasing clothe, uneasy on wear. Second, factor analysis of the revised Clothing Disposal Determinants Scale revealed five factors; unfitness, fashion change, quality dissatisfaction, product efficiency decrement, and maintenance/inconvenience. Third, female students perceived significantly higher in fashion change and unfitness than male students. Forth, unfitness and product efficiency decrement were significantly discriminated between between clothing satisfaction groups, unfitness and fashion change variables were significantly discriminated between family income groups. fifth, impulsive purchase factor was the best predictor of composite clothing disposal measure, followed by individuality, clothing satisfaction, practicality. The best predictors of each disposal factors were individuality oriented purchasing criterion in unfitness factor. Fashion in fashion change, impulsive purchase in quality dissatisfaction and product efficiency decrement factors, and practicality in maintenance/inconvenience factor. As a whole, the most consistent predictor of clothing disposal determinants was impulsive purchase factor.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the clothing pursuit benefits of female consumers in twenties, and explain the differences in underwear purchase behaviors among them. For data collection, research questionnaires were responded by 232 female consumers living in Busan. The collected data were analyzed by the frequency factor analysis using SPSS 12.0 for Windows, the factor analysis using Varimax, reliability analysis, cluster analysis, ANOVA, Duncan test, and ${\chi}^2$-test. The results of this study were as follows: First, consumers' clothing pursuit benefit was drawn from six factors: Self-esteem, Individuality, Fashion, Brand, Practicality, and Price pursuit. The results of the factor analysis of clothing benefit were divided into four groups: Brand pursuit group, Fashion pursuit group, Self-esteem pursuit group, and Individuality/rationality pursuit group. Second, the results of analysing underwear purchase behaviors among clothing pursuit benefit groups showed significant differences in purchase motive, source of information, evaluation criteria, and purchase practices. The underwear purchase motives were significantly different in diversity purchase factor between the groups; sources of information used for underwear purchase were significantly different in the window display factor. The underwear evaluation criteria were significantly different among the groups in decoration and practicality factors, while purchase practices were significantly different among the groups only in underwear purchasing places.
The objective of this study were to classify the contents of clothing purchase motives and to examine the differences in post-purchase dissatisfaction and satisfaction of clothing according to the clothing purchase motives. Questionnaire was comprised of 36 Likert type items of clothing purchase motive measure, 15 items of post-purchase clothing dissatisfaction measure, and 1 item of satisfaction measures. Samples were 492 women in Incheon, Korean ; 279 were college students and 213 were housewives. Subjects perceived 'becomingness' to be the most important motive, 'attractiveness of color' the second important, and 'salesperson's recommendation' the least. 2. 6 factors of clothing purchase motives were derived by factor analysis : F.1 'clothing utility and deficiency' ; F.2 'clothing quality' ; F.3 'financial frugality'. 3. Subjects were classified into the three motive groups by cluster analysis of the 6 factors : G.1 'the clothing appearance and others' influence' ; G.2 'the clothing quality and deficiency' ; G.3 'the motiveless'. 4. More college women were distributed in clothing appearance and others' influence group than housewives, while more housewives were distributed in clothing quality and deficiency group. 5. The clothing appearance and others' influence group expressed the highest post-purchase dissatisfaction and the lowest post-purchase satisfaction. The clothing quality and deficiency group expressed the highest post-purchase satisfaction, and the motiveless group expressed the lowest post-purchase dissatisfaction.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of lifestyle factors on clothing purchase motives, information use, and selection criteria in male college students. The sample included 241 male college students, and an instrument was developed based on the previous studies. The statistical analyses used for this study were factor analysis and multiple regression. The result of factor analysis showed that lifestyle consisted of six factors : clothing interest, serif-confidence, social participation, planned clothing purchase, family-orientation, and conservativeness. Clothing purchase motives consisted of conspicuous consumption motives, fashion and individuality motives, and economic motives. Clothing information use consisted of four factors: paper/display, personal advice, fashion show/clothing observation, and electronic media. Finally. clothing selection criteria consisted of practicability, fashion/individuality, and conformity, Multip1e regression revealed that there were significant effects of lifestyle factors on clothing purchase motives, information use, and selection criteria. For example, self-confidence factor had a negative impact on conspicuous consumption motive, personal advice information use, and fashion/individuality criteria. The relative importance of lifestyle factors were different according to different dimensions of clothing purchase motives, information use, and selection criteria.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the differences in cosmetic purchase behavior according to clothing involvement, age, and face satisfaction. Subjects of this study were the females in Seoul and Kyonggi, who were 20's and 40$.$50's. Questionnaire was used as major method of gathering data. The data were collected from Sep. to Oct., 2003 and analyzed by using SPSS 10.0 with various techniques such as the factor analysis, reliability analysis, mean, percentage, cluster analysis, ANOYA, Duncan test, t-test. Cronbach's $\alpha$ and X$^2$-test. The results of this study were as follows: 1. The cosmetic purchase behaviors were categorized in 4 different factors by the factor analysis;'fashion pursuit' purchase, 'conspicuous pursuit' purchase, 'brand pursuit' purchase and 'rational pursuit' purchase. 2. The consumers were classified into four groups by clothing involvement; 'high clothing involvement' group, 'low fashion involvement' group, 'middle clothing involvement' group and 'low clothing involvement' group. 3.'High clothing involvement' group was the highest in 'fashion pursuit' and 'conspicuous pursuit' purchase factors, 'Low fashion involvement' group was the lowest in 'fashion pursuit' purchase factor. Conclusionally, 'fashion pursuit' and 'conspicuous pursuit' purchase behaviors were setting more aggressive as clothing involvement was getting higher. 4. The differences in cosmetic purchase behavior according to the age revealed that 40'$.$50s' basic cosmetic purchase behavior was more 'brand pursuit' oriented than 20's. 5. The result of differences in cosmetics purchase behavior according to the face satisfaction was no noticeable difference.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a saleswomans clothing and store type on elderly female consumers likability to a saleswoman. Also it was to study the effects of the factors consisting likability to a saleswoman on intent to purchase among elderly female consumers. 3(clothing formality: low, medium, and high)$\times$2(clothing style: clothing looking old vs. young)$\times$2(store type: high priced specialty store vs. low priced open market) complete randomized between subjects design using field experiments were conducted. Subjects were 240 elderly females aged 54-69. The results showed that likability to a saleswoman consisted of impression factor, service ability factor and caring factor. There was the significant three way interaction among three independent variables in the service ability factor(F(sub)2,228=15.62, P<.001). Regression Analysis showed that the impression factor($R^2$=0.29, F<.001) and the service ability factor($R^2$=0.06, F<.001) influenced the elderly consumers intention to purchase significantly. In conclusion, favorable appearances of a saleswoman is considered a crucial service quality influencing potential elderly consumers to purchase.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the clothing memory which affects apparel purchase behavior. The construction of clothing memory, the relationship between clothing memory and apparel purchase behavior, and the difference of clothing memory among persons by demographic variables are examined 746 female apparel consumers answer the questionnaire and data are analyzed by factor analysis, canonical correlation, Pearson correlation, and t-test. The result of this study are as follows; 1. There are three dimensions in the clothing memory which memory apparel purchase behavior; general memory about clothing, memory of appropriate clothing for oneself and memory of apparel purchase. 2. nothing memory affects apparel purchase behavior. General memory about clothing plays the most important role in the apparel purchase behavior especially in the amount of apparel purchase. 3. Unmarried young women with high income, high education level, and decent job have large amount of clothing memory.

The purposes of this study were to identify shopper types by analyzing clothing shopping orientations and to compare consumer characteristics such as store evaluative criteria, perceived risks in clothing purchase, and demographic characteristics among different shopper types. A questionnaire was developed to measure clothing shopping orientations, store evaluative criteria, perceived risks in clothing purchase, and demographic characteristics. The questionnaire was administered to 453 female adults during the fall of 1993. The results of this study were as follows: 1. Clothing shopping orientations were factor analyzed resulting six factors, such as Recreational Shopping, Economic Shopping, Store/Brand Loyalty, Careful Shopping, In- dependent Shopping, and Self-confidence in Clothing Shopping factors. 2. According to the factor scores of recreational shopping factor and economic shopping factor, consumers were segmented into four shopper types: Low Shopping-involved Shopper, High Shopping-involved Shopper, Recreational Shopper, and Economic Shopper. Consumer characteristics such as store evaluative criteria, perceived risks in clothing purchase, and demographic characteristics were significantly different among shopper types.
