The door impact beam of the side-impacted vehicle plays a key role in securing occupant safety by preventing intrusion from the impacting vehicle. Despite the low production cost, the press door impact beam has been adopted sparingly because of the strength inferiority. In this study, the design technologies of the press beam aimed at improving bending strength were investigated. First, the effect of the section shape and size was examined. Next, thickness and material strength were increased. Also, the TRB beam application was simulated by varying combined thickness. Some TRB beams with reduced weight exhibited bending strength over the strength of the pipe beam. Then, the beam with a closed center section also showed remarkably enhanced maximum bending strength.

In this paper, effect of air gap thickness between absorber plate and glass cover on top heat loss of a closed loop oscillating heat pipe (CLOHP) solar collector was investigated. The CLOHP, which is made of copper with outer diameter of 3.2mm and inner diameter of 2.0mm, comprises 8 turns with heating, adiabatic and cooling section. The heating section of the heat pipe was attached to absorber plate which heated by solar simulator simulated by halogen lamps. The cooling section of the heat pipe was inserted into collector's cooling section that made of transparent acrylic. Temperatures of absorber plate, glass cover, and ambient air measured by K-type thermocouple and were recorded by MV2000-Yokogawa recorder. Top heat loss coefficients and top heat loss of the collector corresponding to some cases of air gap thickness were determined. The result of experiment shows the optimal air gap thickness for minimum top heat loss of this solar collector.

The elimination of a pole sensor is desirable due to the low-cost requirement, the compactness, and the applied drives. This paper proposes the algorithm for the initial pole-position estimation of a surface permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (PM-LSM), which is carried out under the closed loop control without a pole sensor and is insensitive to the motor parameters. This algorithm is based on the principle that the initial pole position (IPP) is estimated by the trigonometric function of the two reference currents. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is confirmed by testing a surface PM-LSM with large disturbance, which result shows that IPP is well estimated within a satisfied moving-distance and a shorter estimation taken-time even if large disturbance such as cogging and friction is existed.
The buckling capacity of a radially retractable hybrid grid shell in the closed position was investigated in this paper. The geometrically non-linear elastic buckling and elasto-plastic buckling analyses of the hybrid structure were carried out. A parametric study was done to investigate the effects rise-to-span ratio, beam section, area and pre-stress of cables, on the failure load. Also, the influence of the shape and scale of imperfections on the elasto-plastic buckling loads was discussed. The results show that the critical buckling load is reduced by taking account of material non-linearity. Furthermore, increasing the rise-to-span ratio or the cross-section area of steel beams notably improves the stability of the structure. However, the cross section area and pre-stress of cables pose negligible effect on the structural stability. It can also be found that the hybrid structure is highly sensitive to geometric imperfection which will considerably reduce the failure load. The proper shape and scale of the imperfection are also important.

The roll forming process is often used to manufacture long, thin-walled products such as a pipe. The final cross-section is a comparatively simple open-channel, a closed tube section or a complex profile with several bends. In recent years, that process is often applied to the bumper beam in the automotive industries. In this study, a optimal Center Floor Cross Member manufacturing technology, model deign and proper roll-pass sequences can be suggested by forming number of roll-pass and bending angle, and also effects of the process parameters on the final shape formed by roll forming defects were evaluated.
The channel type structure which has large openings is frail with respect to torsional strength, and the horizontal-torsional motion is highly coupled, because of the large difference between the centroil and the shear center. Also, a discontinuous boundary phase is came from tansition section between the opened section and the closed section. To analyze the Bending- Torsional coupled mode parameters for the channel type structure, the Transfer Matrix Method was used. Comparing the result of F.D.M.T.M.M yields good results in relatively low frequency region.
Ever since the identification of 6830 and 7088 features as the Raman scattered O VI 1032, 1038 resonance doublets in symbiotic stars by Schmid (1989), Raman scattering by atomic hydrogen has been a very unique tool to investigate the mass transfer processes in symbiotic stars. Discovery of Raman scattered He II in young planetary nebulae (NGC 7027, NGC 6302, IC 5117) allow one to expect that Raman scattering can be an extremely useful tool to look into the mass loss processes in these objects. Because hydrogen is a single electron atom, their wavefunctions are known in closed form, so that exact calculations of cross sections are feasible. In this paper, I review some basic properties of Raman scattered features and present detailed and explicit matrix elements for computation of the scattering cross section of radiation with atomic hydrogen. Some astrophysical objects for which Raman scattering may be observationally pertinent are briefly mentioned.
The purpose of this study was to compare the balance ability at different foot angle with KAT 2000 (Breg, Inc., Vista, CA. 1994). Forty-nine (male 24, female 25) normal subjects participated in this study. All subjects were assessed under two conditions. One was eye-opened condition and the other one was eye-closed one in 3 psi surface condition. All subjects were tested at different foot angle that were toe-in $25^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, toe-out $25^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$. The subject attempted to keep the platform as stable as possible with eyes closed and with eyes opened for every 20 seconds. The starting position was that subject crossed their arms across chest and flexed knees slightly. The results of each test were showed by a score on screen, which meant balance index. The se collected data were analyzed by using oneway ANOVA, Scheffe test, and t-test. The results of this study were as follows: 1. When the foot angle were changed, balance index was the lowest in toes-out $25^{\circ}$ condition and greatest with toes-in $45^{\circ}$ with eyes opened and with eyes closed. There were statistically significant difference with eyes opened and with eyes closed (p<0.05). 2. There was statistically significant difference in balance index according to visual condition and the balance index tested with eyes closed was higher than with eyes closed(p<0.05). 3. There was statistically significant difference in balance index by gender(p<0.05).
In this study, a closed-form analysis has been developed for the transverse shear behavior of thin-walled composite beams with closed cross-sections. The shear flow distributions and cross-section stiffness coefficients are derived analytically by using a mixed beam approach. The theory has been applied to single-celled composite box-beams with elastic couplings. The location of the shear center and the effect of transverse shear deformation on the static behavior of composite beams are investigated in the framework of the analysis. The present results are validated against those of a two-dimensional finite element analysis and a good correlation has been obtained for box-beam cases considered in this study.

Robotized filament winding technology involves a robot that winds a roving impregnated by resin on a die along the directions of stresses to which the work-piece is submitted in applications. The robot moves a deposition head along a winding trajectory in order to deposit roving. The trajectory planning is a very critical aspect of robotized filament winding technology, since it is responsible for both the tension constancy and the winding time. The present work shows two original rules to plan the winding trajectory of structural parts, whose shape is obtained by sweeping a full section around a 3D curve that must be closed and not crossing in order to assure a continuous winding. The first rule plans the winding trajectory by approximating the part 3D shape with straight lines; it is called the discretized rule. The second rule defines the winding trajectory simply by offsetting a 3D curve that reproduces the part 3D shape, of a defined distance; it is called the offset rule. The two rules have been compared in terms of roving tension and winding time. The present work shows how the offset rule enables achievement of both the required aims: to manufacture parts of high structural performances by keeping the tension on the roving near to the nominal value and to markedly decrease the winding time. This is the first step towards the optimization of the robotized filament winding technology.
