Purpose: This study was designed to investigate nursing students' exposure experience to infectious diseases and their knowledge and performance for the nosocomial infection control. Method: The data was obtained from 292 nursing students having clinical experience at two university hospitals in Seoul from November 2005 to February 2006. Specific questionnaire was constructed and used for this study. The obtained data was analyzed by using the SPSS window program. Result: The results were as follow : 1. Among the evaluation scores of knowledge for the nosocomial infection control, the score of sterilization and the score of the intravenous therapy management were low(.14). 2. Among the evaluation scores of performance for the nosocomial infection control, the score of hand washing is low(1.63). 3. 86.3 percent of the nursing students had exposure experience to infectious disease. Many of them did not use the protective equipments in clinical experience nor took any treatment after the exposure to infectious diseases. Conclusion: Based on these results, we suggest that the programs for the nosocomial infection control should be developed for nursing students. It is also suggested that nursing students should be educated before their clinical experience to keep protected from the infection. In particular, the hand washing, sterilization and intravenous therapy management should be emphasized in the educational programs.
Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the effects of a suction care self video-based debriefing-assisted learning in the fundamentals of nursing practice for nursing students on clinical performance, self-efficacy and problem-solving process. Methods: A nonequivalent control group non-synchronized design study was used and included 97 junior nursing students at P University as participants, 48 of whom were assigned to the experimental group, and 49 of whom were assigned to the control group. The outcome measurements were clinical performance for suction care, self-efficacy, and the problem-solving process. Results: The scores of clinical performance were 23.75 in the experimental group who used the materials and 21.55 in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (p<.000). Self-efficacy was 4.30 in the experimental group and 4.18 in the control group, which was a statistically significant difference (p=.000), and the pre-to-post differences of self-efficacy was statistically significant as well (p<.001). However, there were no significant differences in the pre-to-post differences of the problem-solving process (p<.802). Conclusions: Self video-based debriefing-assisted learning may be more effective in enhancing clinical performance and self-efficacy than that of conventional practice. Whether self-efficacy will contribute to enhanced learning motivation for nursing students needs further examination.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to develop a simulation-based High Flow Nasal Cannula Oxygen Therapy training program based on NLN/ISF to identify the effect on knowledge, clinical performance, and educational satisfaction compared to a group who had traditional High Flow Nasal Cannula Oxygen Therapy training after applying it to clinical nurses. Methods: 31 experimental groups and 33 control groups were conducted from August 2019 to September 2019 for inexperienced nurses over 4 months to 5 years with no experience using high-flow oxygen therapy. Educational programs were developed in scenarios according to Airvo2 and Optiflow, such as facilitator, participant, educational condition, design, characteristics, and educational outcomes. The education application was conducted in advanced for knowledge and clinical performance ability after watching therapy video. Since then, a total of 90 minutes have been conducted for respiratory failure theory training, airvo2 and optiflow simulation training, and debriefing. After applying the education, the medical institution measured nurses' knowledge, clinical performance, and education satisfaction. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, with the SPSS/WIN 22.0 program. Results: Both knowledge and educational satisfaction were higher in the experimental group than in the control group (t=-14.09, p<.001), (t=-12.99, p<.001). The clinical performance for both use of Optiflow and Airvo2 were higher in the experimental group than in the control group (t=-11.39, p<.001), (t=-11.38, p<.001). Conclusion: Results showed that the simulation-based High Flow Nasal Cannula Oxygen Therapy training was effective with the experimental group having increased scores for every area of this study.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of nursing competency of nurses on job satisfaction and nursing performance. Method: Using a structured questionnaire, data were collected from 368 nurses. Descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test and pearson correlation coefficient with SAS package were used for data analysis. Results: The total mean score for nursing competency was 2.65, with scores for subcategories as follows: ethical competency 2.74, personal competency 2.65, esthetical competency 2.64, and scientific competency 2.61. The mean score of total job satisfaction was 3.18 on a 5 point scale, and nursing performance was 2.97 on a 4 point scale. Total nursing competency and total subcategories of nursing competency perceived by nurses were positively related to job satisfaction and nursing performance. Conclusion: In conclusion, nursing competency of nurses influence job satisfaction and nursing performance. With these result, it is necessary to concentrate on improving nursing competency of nurses to increase job satisfaction and nursing performance.
Purpose of this study was to provide strategies to improve quality in clinical practice by identifying the nursing student contents of clinical practice, performance level and satisfaction in the delivery room setting and correlations between the performance level and satisfaction. As the result, Nursing students were mostly rely on observational experiences with very limited experiences of performance and assist. Nursing students' clinical practice satisfaction were relatively low with 69 percentile score. The women's health clinic group showed higher score on frequency of clinical observation, clinical practice satisfaction than the tertiary hospital group. Correlations among frequencies of observation, assist and satisfaction were identified. Simulation based clinical practice as alternative ways to enhance students' performance level, utilizing community based speciality healthcare facilities for clinical practice, increasing observational experiences in the clinical field were suggested as strategies to improve quality of nursing clinical practice and ultimately to improve quality of healthcare services.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the role performance and related factors of the Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC). Methods: A quantitative, cross-sectional design was used. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire from 134 Clinical Research Coordinators in 4 hospitals and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: The scores for role performance of CRC were high (average 336.51 points of a possible 420 points, mean average $5.74{\pm}0.67$ of a possible 7) and the degree of role performance in the management task sub dimension (mean average $6.12{\pm}0.77$ of a possible 7) was higher than any other sub dimension. Role performance of the CRC was also related to job satisfaction (r=.198, p=.023). Conclusion: The study results indicate that most CRC are nurses and perceive their role as very important. Further the CRC performance of activities of management task and the Coordination/Advocacy task sub dimension were high and higher levels of job satisfaction were related to higher levels of role performance of CRC was. Therefore, strategies related to improvement in the fringe benefit system and work environment should be developed to increase job satisfaction and thus increase job performance.

Purpose: This study's aim was to confirm the importance and performance of the clinical practice of nurses working in the general wards of a tertiary hospital and to analyze their educational needs. Methods: The study employed a descriptive research design, and a self-reported questionnaire was developed and used for nurses in a tertiary hospital. Data were collected from July 22 to July 29, 2022, analyzed by an independent t-test, paired t-test, and one-way ANOVA for the importance and performance of each clinical nursing practice according to general characteristics, and then a post hoc verification was performed by Scheffé's test. An Importance-Performance Analysis and Borich needs assessment model were used to analyze clinical nursing education needs. Results: Clinical nursing practice performance showed a significant difference according to length of total clinical career, time working in current department, and preceptor experience. According to the results of the Importance-Performance Analysis, neurological evaluation, and nursing intervention, artificial respirator and high-flow oxygen inhalation nursing, chemotherapy, emergency nursing, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation were identified as belonging to the "concentrate here" quadrant. All these items ranked in the top 10 in the Borich needs assessment model. Conclusion: Based on these results, the current education system should be reviewed, and short and long term education strategies based on educational needs should be established to strengthen the competence of nurses.
Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of an education program using a high-fidelity simulator of labor and delivery on nursing knowledge, critical thinking, and clinical performance among nursing students who had not yet experienced clinical practicum. Methods: The development of a 5-week maternity nursing education programs using high-fidelity simulators included modules containing case-oriented scenarios, knowledge, and skills required for maternity care. A randomized controlled study was conducted to verify the effects of the developed program. Data were collected from October 21 to December 9, 2019. The experimental group (n=36) participated in a 5-week high-fidelity simulation program on care for the woman in labor, whereas the control group (n=36) received standard education as lecture and practice with delivery model. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation), the Chi-square test, Fisher exact test, and t-test. Results: For participants who received education using the high-fidelity simulation program, nursing knowledge (t=2.33, p=.011), critical thinking (t=3.73, p<.001), and clinical performance (t=2.53, p=.006) were significantly higher than in the control group. Conclusion: Even for students with no clinical experience, high-fidelity simulation-based nursing education was effective in improving nursing knowledge, critical thinking, and clinical performance among nursing students. Nurse educators will be able to use this high-fidelity simulator effectively, especially in situations where direct clinical practicum may not be feasible.
Purpose: This study aimed to confirm the effects of a simulation-based program on knowledge and clinical performance in the post-operative management of emergency patients. Methods: This was a pre- and post-research design with a nonequivalent control group and randomly sampled 29 experimental and control groups, respectively from nursing department juniors for 4 weeks from September of 2014. The experimental group received lectures, team study, team simulation, and debriefing in post-operative management of simulation-based emergency patients and control group conducted in the traditional lecture-type setting. Educational learning effects were measured by using the knowledge and clinical performance measurement tools of 15 and 20 items, respectively. Data were analyzed by using the SPSS program, including frequency, ratio, and results from the Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, t-test. Results: Our research results indicate that, the experimental group showed significantly higher knowledge and clinical performance score compared with the control group. Conclusion: We confirmed that education on post-operative management of simulation-based emergency patients was an effective educational method to improve the knowledge and clinical performance of nursing students.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to test validity and reliability of the Korean-Sieloff King Assessment of Group Outcome Attainment within organization in Korea (K-SKAGOAO), and also to explore the relationship of Korean nursing group power and job satisfaction, organizational commitment, organizational performance. Methods: Participants were 481 nurse managers, nurse unit managers or staff nurses with over 7 years experience. Data were collected by post mail and analyzed using descriptive statistics, ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis test, Tukey test, and Spearman's correlation. Results: Content Validity Index was over .82 and Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ coefficient for the K-SKAGOAO was .97. The mean score for Korean nursing group power was 136.77 among the total participants, 139.89 among nurse managers, 136.74 among nurse unit managers and 132.47 among staff nurses. These results showed high nursing group power in Korea nursing organization in hospitals. There was also a significant difference according to nurse position (p=.003). Korean nursing group power was positively related to job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and organizational performance. Conclusion: Findings show that the K-SKAGOAO has validity and reliability. Nursing groups can use the K-SKAGOAO to evaluate the nursing group power of each nursing organization and to develop strategies to improve nursing power and nursing outcomes.
