  • The copy numbers of the CTG repeats are known to relate to the severity of clinical symptoms for myotonic dystrophy. The positive correlation between clinical manifestations and CTG repeat size has been demonstrated previously. A genetically confirmed myotonic dystrophy patient with 90 CTG repeat number had more severe clinical manifestation than brother with 120 CTG repeats, in adulthood.

  • Clinical evaluations, nerve conduction studies, and electromyography play major complementary roles in electrophysiologic diagnoses. Electromyography can be used to assess pathologic changes and localize lesions occurring in locations ranging from motor units to anterior-horn cells. Successfully performing electromyography requires knowledge of the anatomy, physiology, and pathology of the peripheral nervous system as well as sufficient skill and interpretation ability. Electromyography techniques include acquiring data from visual/auditory signals and performing needle positioning, semiquantitation, and interpretation. Here we introduce the basic concepts of electromyography to guide clinicians in performing electromyography appropriately.

  • ■ Objectives The purpose of this case report is to show the effect of Traditional Korean Medicine(TKM) on a patient with Cluster Headache. ■ Methods A patient diagnosed as Cluster Headache was treated with herbal medication(Sihogyejitang plus Oryungsan), acupuncture, electro-acupuncture. Then we evaluated the improvement with NRS(Numeral Rating Scale) of headache, number of headache attack and O2 inhalation. ■ Results We could observe decrease NRS of headache and number of headache and O2 inhalation after 10 days of the TKM treatment and there was no reattack after treatment for 43days follow up period. ■ Conclusion This case showed the effect of TKM treatment on Cluster headache.

  • The patient was a 69-year-old Korean male with Lewy's body dementia and insomnia. He was treated with acupuncture and a herbal medicine, Ukan-san. To evaluate insomnia, the patient's total sleeping time was recorded. The patient's sleeping time increased after the administration of the Korean medicine treatments. Treatment with Korean medicine may be effective in treating insomnia in cases of Lewy's body dementia.

  • The case of a 73-year-old Korean female with dysgeusia due to an acute left thalamic infarction is presented. The patient was treated with the herbal medicine Yanggyuksanhwa-tang, in addition to acupuncture and electronic acupuncture treatment. The filter-paper test and Oral Health Impact Profile-14, (OHIP-14) test were administered to evaluate dysgeusia. Post-treatment, the patient's dysgeusia improved. Korean medicine may be an effective treatment for dysgeusia caused by a thalamic infarction.

  • A case of a 72-year-old Korean male with herpes zoster ophthalmicus revealed. He was treated with Korean-Western cooperative treatment. We used the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) to evaluate forehead and eye pain. Pain was improved after the administration of Korean medical treatments and disappeared after eight days. Korean-Western cooperative treatment may be effective in treating acute herpes zoster ophthalmicus.

  • Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) is the most common peroxisomal disorder caused by mutations in the gene, ABCD1, causing abnormal accumulation of very-long-chain fatty acids in the nervous system and adrenal glands. There are various clinical manifestations of ALD. Here we report a 47-year-old male with adrenomyeloneuropathy with cerebral involvement who exhibited progressive gait disturbance and cognitive impairment. A novel frameshift variant (c.95del [p.Val32Alafs*36]) in exon 1 of ABCD1 was identified. This report provides additional information regarding the various clinical characteristics of ALD.

  • The performance of electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings is affected by electrode type, electronic parameters such as filtering, amplification, signal conversion, data storage; and environmental conditions. However, no single method has been identified for optimal EEG recording quality in all situations. Therefore, we aimed to provide general principles for EEG electrode selection as well as electronic noise reduction, and to present comprehensive information regarding the acquisition of satisfactory EEG signals. The standards provided in this document may be regarded as Korean guidelines for the clinical recording of EEG data. The equipment, types and nomenclature of electrodes, and the details for EEG recording are discussed.
