Purpose: This study was conducted to develop a simulation-based postpartum care education program for women with postpartum hemorrhage and to verify the effects of the program on postpartum care. Methods: This program was developed according to the ADDIE model of instructional system design, which consists of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation phases. This quasi-experimental study used a non-equivalent control group pre- and post-test design, and data were collected from April 23 to May 4, 2015. To verify the effects of the program, 33 nursing students in the experimental group participated in a simulation program, whereas 31 students in the control group were given a case study. Results: The experimental group had statistically significantly higher scores for clinical performance (t=-4.80, p<.001), clinical judgment (t=-4.14, p<.001), and learning satisfaction (t=-10.45, p<.001) than the control group. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that the simulation-based postpartum care education program for women with postpartum hemorrhage was effective for developing students' competency, implying that a similar program should be integrated into the clinical training component of the maternal nursing curriculum.
The purpose of this study was to study on radiologic technologist's license system and primary pathway education curriculum in the United States American (USA), focused on one case of college in Texas. We were collected and analyzed through class participation at a community college in Tarrant, interviews with professors of radiologic science and clinical radiographers, field trips, an internet search, and literature reviews. As a result, first, the American radiologic technologists license system is composed of fifteen chapters, and the professional education courses for each field are being carried out through three courses of a primary pathway, a post primary pathway and a physician extender. Second, the primary pathway courses consisted the radiography, the radiation therapy, the nuclear medicine, the magnetic resonance imaging, the sonography. Third, the USA had about 30 times more clinical practice time than Korea. In clinical practice, students had done actually examination through X-ray exposure on patients. Last radiographers in the USA was able to perform intravenous injection of radiopharmaceutical agents on patient, so that he could perform rapid examination and efficient manpower operation. This study could be used as basic data for the globalization of radiologic technologists license system in Korea.
The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), including deep learning, has led to the development of technologies that may assist in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, prediction of disease risk and prognosis, health index monitoring, drug development, and healthcare management and administration. However, in order for AI technology to improve the quality of medical care, technical problems and the efficacy of algorithms should be evaluated in real clinical environments rather than the environment in which algorithms are developed. Further consideration should be given to whether these models can improve the quality of medical care and clinical outcomes of patients. In addition, the development of regulatory systems to secure the safety of AI medical technology, the ethical and legal issues related to the proliferation of AI technology, and the impacts on the relationship with patients also need to be addressed. Systematic training of healthcare personnel is needed to enable adaption to the rapid changes in the healthcare environment. An overall review and revision of undergraduate medical curriculum is required to enable extraction of significant information from rapidly expanding medical information, data science literacy, empathy/compassion for patients, and communication among various healthcare providers. Specialized postgraduate AI education programs for each medical specialty are needed to develop proper utilization of AI models in clinical practice.
The undergraduate curricula of the twenty pharmacy schools in Korea were analyzed in order to find out the relationship between the Korean Pharmacist Licensure Examination (KPLE) and the Pharmacy Education. The results of this survey indicated that the Pharmacy Education was highly related to KPLE. During the 1999 academic year, there were 1,853 undergraduate courses offered by the twenty pharmacy colleges excluding pre-pharmacy courses. Of the total courses 73\%$ were related to the twelve subject of KPLE. Eighty percent were related to the basic pharmacy. Only $13\%$ were related to the pharmacy practice. The courses related to the Medicinal Chemistry were 16\% of the basic pharmacy courses. The numbers and the names of the subjects of KPLE have not been change during the past 3- years. Recently, the names of the subjects of KPLE have not been changed during the past 30 years. Recently, the National Health Personnel Licensing Examination Board advised to change the courses from the drug-oriented curriculum to a practice-oriented one. Therefore, it will be better that the curriculum of the undergraduate pharmacy program to be re-organized focusing on the divisions of the courses, not on the name of the courses. The number of the under graduate courses should be reduced by combining the related courses. The more courses in the field of patient-oriented pharmacy practice are needed to be added to the undergraduate curriculum in order to produce the clinical pharmacists.
Purpose: This study aimed to examine nurses' knowledge levels and educational needs related to an artificial pacemaker. Methods: Participants were 100 nurses working in cardiovascular departments from two university hospitals in Seoul. This study was a descriptive study using a survey for estimating knowledge levels and educational needs related to an artificial pacemaker among nurses. Data were analyzed by SPSS 23.0 program using frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation, t-test, and ANOVA. Results: Nurses' knowledge levels were significantly different depending on working units (F=3.32, p=.014) and years of clinical experience (F=2.85, p=.042). Nurses who received education about an artificial pacemaker were higher in the knowledge level of complications after an implantation procedure (t=3.45, p<.001) than nurses who did not receive the education. Conclusion: Discharge education is critical for patients with artificial pacemaker implantation to go back to their daily activities. When developing artificial pacemaker education program for hospital nurses, factors such as nurses' working department and years of clinical experience years and updated information of an artifical pacemaker need to be considered.
Background: Recently, the Korean Association of Pharmacy Education has been focusing on competency-based education (CBE) and has established required areas of competencies to improve the graduation competency. However, competency-based assessment (CBA) tools for implementing CBE have not yet been developed for faculty members and students to successfully access the assessment tests. Moreover, the faculty members in charge in pharmacy schools have encountered various barriers in recruiting individuals with integrated clinical experience to act as virtual patients. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the advantages and limitations of applying CBA tool and faculty assessors in the development of CBE to ensure the reliability of this assessment. Methods: Utilizing CBA tool, the students' communication skills and styles were assessed. students and faculty assessors were surveyed to evaluate the advantages and limitations of the CBA tool. Results: 8 assessors and 96 students participated in this study. 100% (8/8) of the faculty assessors and 77.4% (65/84) of the students reported that CBA tool is valuable to assess and improve student's ability. 90.5% (76/84) of the students felt confident in applying knowledge to patient-centered care. CBA tool can be a valuable for the instructors in identifying the competency level of students but can also be associated with limitations in implementation to ensure the objectivity and reliability of the CBA. Conclusions: The CBA tool can be valuable in assessing the level of students' competency. Faculty assessors have the advantage of well-prepared themselves for patient roles, so that the time and cost required may be minimized.
Purpose: This study was conducted to explore the current usage of high integration mannequin human patient simulators (hereafter HPS) in nursing education. Methods: Thirty-two faculty members in 11 nursing schools participated in this survey. the questionnaire consisted of some multiple-choice questions and open questions to collect data on the experience of faculty members with using HPS as well as quantitative information. Results: The faculty members who used HPS in their classes recognized the need to use simulation in nursing education. They identified the advantages of simulation education as promoting adaptation to the clinical environment(46.9%), promoting self-confidence(28.1%), promoting critical thinking(28.15), and making direct nursing skill practice available(28.1%). However, they considered the obstacles to the use of simulation in nursing education to be insufficient manpower(62.5%), insufficient time(40.6%), and difficulty in preparing a teaching strategy(34.4%). Conclusion: HPS is useful in nursing education, but systematic plans and policies regarding on its operation are needed to confirm its effectiveness. The results of this study generally provide a basic information for use of HPS in nursing education.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects on knowledge and performance in clinical nurses who participated in education on nursing recording focusing on the legal aspects. Method: The participants were working in medical departments in one hospital. There were 32 nurses in the experimental group and 25 in the control group. Pre-test was conducted on the two groups before education, and, in order to examine the effects of education, a post-test was conducted after three weeks. For the experimental group, the education on nursing recording focusing on legal aspects was provided as a lecture-led one-to-one training. Results: Significant differences were found between the experimental and control groups in knowledge (F=15.728, p<.001), and performance (F=42.454, p<.001). Conclusions: The results of this study indicate that education on nurse recording enhances the knowledge and performance of the nurses. Thus education on nurse recording focusing on legal aspects should be required in the area of nursing science.
The aim of this study was to investigate the problem areas in the current clinical training of biomedical laboratory science education which may guide the development of an effective strategy for managing clinical training for biomedical laboratory science students. A self-reporting questionnaire was developed by the researchers. This survey was conducted between May 1st and May 15st in 2009 and 92 questionnaires were collected from senior biomedical laboratory science students. In Analyzing data, chi-square test was used for categorical variables. 82.6% of respondents was satisfied with conditions of the training institutes. 30~40% of the respondents reported that they were not satisfied with the programs and supervision systems for training students even though the staff members of other disciplines were supportive in general. Although 83.7% of the respondents reported that they were obtaining information and knowledge for their professional carrier through the training, 70.7% of the respondents reported that they had negative experiences during the training. According to the result of the survey, it can be inferred that the structure of the training education needs to be more systematically organized in order to train the well prepared entry-level biomedical laboratory scientists.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the plan to introduce a practical skills test as part of the national examination for nursing licensure. Method: The delphi method was used. The first set of data was collected by open questionnaire from universities and hospitals nationally. The second and third were collected by structured questionnaire. Results: The biggest problem for clinical Practice in nursing education was reported as the lack of opportunities for direct nursing practice. The biggest performance problem in job duties for novice nurses was reported as the lack of integrated problem solving skills in a clinical situation. The biggest problem with the current national examination was reported as the use memorizing solutions to test questions. It was suggested that the best plan to resolve problems with the national examination would be to develop test questions representative of the clinical setting and increase personnel in clinical education. About the introduction of a practical skills test as part of the national examination, 56.9% were in agreement and 38.5% disagreed. Conclusion: The current national examination has many problems when it comes to testing clinical competency. So, a practical skills test must be deferred to a future time. There are also many difficulties in presenting a real situation, therefore further research is needed in preparation for the introduction of a practical skills test.
