  • A gutter is generally a fixed beneath the edge of a roof to carry off rainwater, or a narrow trough that collects rainwater from the roof of a building to diverts it from the structure, typically into a drain. Reasonable designs reduce the mass of the gutters (~ 16.9%), make it faster and easier to assemble, and gives it consistent strength and integrity (about 10%). New gutter systems are presented according to the results of structural analyses performed by ANSYS and ADAMS/Durability Hot Spots. In addition, the CATIA program can improve the precision of the 3D system simulations. The design of a gutter system installations also needs to comply with the specific rainfall intensities and adequate overflow provisions needs to be provided to prevent water from sides of the roofs during heavy rainfall periods. The principle outcome of this work is a computational design tool that can be used to improve the gutter performance considering a variety of factors (gutter geometry, drainage and rainfall intensity). A good gutter design must satisfy many criteria, including durability, low cost, and ease of repair and cleaning.

  • The high fuel flexibility of gas turbine power system has boosted their use in a wide variety of applications. Recently, the demand for biogas generated from the digestion of organic wastes and sewage waste water as a fuel for gas turbines has increased. We investigated the performance of high pressure biogas compression system and operating conditions for supplying biogas. The total flow per minute of biogas from food waste water digestion tank is $54Nm^3$. The main type of biogas compression system is the reciprocating system and screw type system. The target of biogas mechanical data is the as belows; inlet pressure 0.045bar, supplying biogas temperature is $30{\sim}60^{\circ}C$, and final pressure is above the 25 bar. Also, inlet conditions of biogas consist of CH4 48.5%~83%, $H_2S$ Max. 500ppm, $NH_3$ Max. 1,500ppm and Siloxane 2.7~4.6ppm. The boosting Blower system raises a pressure from 0.045bar to 1bar before main compressor. The main system lay out of reciprocating consisits of compressor driver, filter, cooling system, blowdown vessel, control system and ESD(Emergency Shut Down) system. And an enclosure package needs to be installed for reducing noise up to 75dB. The system driver is the electronic motor of explosion proof type. Forthe compressor system reliable operation, the cleaning system something like particulate filter needs to be set up in the inlet of compressor and Coalescing Filter in the outlet of compressor. Particulate Filter has to be removed above $10{\mu}m$ size of the particles in biogas. The coalescing filter(Micofine Borosilicate Glass Fibers Filter treated phenol acid) also removes moisture and oil of above $0.3{\mu}m$ to be involved in high pressure biogas up to 90%~98%.

  • Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) powder was treated with aqueous sodium hydroxide to obtain partially defluorinated fluoropolymers with expected properties such as improving hydrophilicity and fouling resistance. Raman spectrum and FT-IR results confirmed the existence of conjugated carbon double bonds after alkaline treatment. As the concentration increased, the degree of defluorination increased. The morphology and structure of membranes were examined. The permeation performance was investigated. The results showed that membrane's hydrophilicity increased with increase of the percentage of alkaline treated PVDF powder. Moreover, in terms of the water contact angle, it decreased from $92^{\circ}$ to a minimum of $68^{\circ}$; while water up take increased from 128 to 138%. Fluxof pure water and the cleaning efficiency increased with the increase of alkaline treated PVDF powder. The fouling potential also decreased with the increase of the percentage of alkaline treated PVDF powder. The reason that makes blending PVDF show different characteristics because of partial defluorination, which led the formation of conjugated C = C bonds and the inclusion of oxygen functionalities. The polyene structure followed by hydroxide attack to yield hydroxyl and carbonyl groups. Therefore, the hydrophilicity of blending membrane was improved. The SEM and porosity measurements showed that no obvious variations of the pore dimensions and structures for blend membranes were observed. Mechanical tests suggest that the high content of the alkaline treated PVDF result in membranes with less tolerance of tensile stress and higher brittleness. TGA results exhibited that the blend of alkaline treated PVDF did not change membrane thermal stability.

  • The surface states of gate dielectrics affect device performance severely in Pentacene OTFTs. We have fabricated organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) using pentacene as an active layer with chemically modified $SiO_2$ gate dielectrics. The effects of the surface treatment of $SiO_2$ on the electric characteristics of OTFTS were investigated. The surface of $SiO_2$ gate dielectric was treated by normal wet cleaning process, $O_2-plasma$ treatment, hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS), and octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS) treatment. After the surface treatments, the contact angles and surface free energies were measured in order to analyze the surface state changes. In the electrical measurements, typical I-V characteristics of TFTs were observed. The field effect mobility, $\mu$, was calculated to be $0.29\;cm^2V^{-1}s^{-1}$ for OTS treated sample while those for the HMDS, $O_2$ plasma treated, and wet-cleaned samples were 0.16, 0.1, and $0.04\;cm^2V^{-1}s^{-1}$, respectively.

  • Experiments on photochemical reactions of purified air alone in an indoor smog chamber were carried out after flushing Teflon bags with purified air for many hours in order to check the level of contamination on the chamber wall. Ozone concentrations were linearly increased from <4 ppb up to about 8 ppb with irradiation time for four hours. Outgassing of NOx from the chamber wall was found to be less than 1 ppb. New ultrafine particles were formed and grown up to about 70 nm during the photochemical reactions, and then total number and mass concentrations of particles were increased from <10 particles/$cm^3$ up to about 4,000 particles/$cm^3$ and $1.3{\mu}g/m^3$, respectively. The wall conditions of these Teflon bags flushed with purified air might not severly affect the chamber experimental results for photochemical reactions of polluted urban ambient air. The difference of gaseous species between two chambers was 2.4 ppb of ozone at most, indicating that the wall cleaning performance of two chambers was nearly similar.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to compare the postoperative pain and clinical performance after applying three different intracanal medicaments and root canal sealers. Materials and Methods: Sixty-five patients requiring root canal treatment due to symptomatic apical periodontitis were included in this study. After a glide path preparation by using PathFile, each canal was shaped with ProTaper Next file system. After the canal cleaning and shaping procedure, the canal was dried and each intracanal medicaments were adjusted (Calcipex II, TRC-paste, Metapaste). At the next visit, the patients were requested to answer the absence of the pain after the procedure. Once the patients showed no symptom, the canal was obturated with each corresponded root canal sealers (AH plus, Radic-sealer, ADseal). The patients were recalled after 1 week, 1, 3, and 6 months to check the postoperative pain or unexpected clinical signs. One-way ANOVA and Duncan's post hoc comparison, and Chi-square test were used for statistical analysis to evaluate any differences among tested materials. Results: The average number of visits for intracanal medication was 2.69, 2.65, and 2.61 for Calcipex II, TRC-paste, and Metapaste. There were no statistically differences in post-obturation pain among three groups obturated with different root canal sealers (P > 0.05). Conclusions: Under the limitations of this study, three tested intracanal medicaments and epoxy resin root canal sealers showed clinically acceptable similar results.

  • Researchers continue to explore possibilities for expanding additive manufacturing (AM) technologies into direct product manufacturing. One limitation is in the materials available for use in AM that can meet the needs of end-use applications. Stereolithography (SL) is an AM technology well known for its precision and high quality surface finish capabilities. SL builds parts by selectively crosslinking or solidifying photo-curable liquid resins, and the resin industry has been continuously developing new resins with improved performance characteristics. This paper introduces a unique SL machine that can fabricate parts out of multiple SL materials. The technology is based on using multiple vats positioned on a rotating vat carousel that contain different photo-curable materials. To change the material during the process, the build platform is raised out of the current vat, a new vat with a different material is rotated under the platform, and the platform is submerged into the new vat so that the new material can be used. This paper introduces a new vat exchange mechanism, cleaning process, recoating process, resin leveling mechanism and process planning technologies for the implementation of multiple material SL. An overview of the system framework is provided and the system integration and control software is described. In addition, several multiple material test parts are designed, fabricated, and described.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to compare the plaque removal effects of vacuum oral cleaner developed for the patients with limited mobility with those of manual toothbrushes and high pressure injection oral cleaner (dental water jet). Meterials and methods : Thirty human subjects were measured with Patient Hygiene Performance index (PHP index) and O'Leary index before and after the use of toothbrush, high pressure injection oral cleaner and vacuum oral cleaner. These three different oral hygiene methods were conducted with seven-day intermittence. Then the statistical analysis was carried out to define plaque removal rate of three different oral hygiene methods (${\alpha}=.05$). Results : According to the efficacy analysis of plaque removal before and after the oral cleaning using each of three methods, significant reduction in plaque after the treatment compared to the previous state when using toothbrush, high pressure injection oral cleaner, and vacuum oral cleaner was observed (P < 0.001). PHP index of tooth brushing was higher than that of the high pressure injection oral cleaner, while PHP index of vacuum oral cleaner did not show significant difference from either of the other two methods. There was no significance difference in O'Leary index among the three methods. Conclusion : Effect of plaque removal using the vacuum oral cleaner is comparable to that of manual tooth brush or high pressure injection oral cleaner, so it will be helpful for self-oral hygiene care of the patients with limited mobility.

  • An elastomer (especially PDMS) sponge is considered to be a promising selective absorber in cleaning up oil spills. The performance of a PDMS sponge in capturing and separating oil from (sea) water depends on several parameters such as surface roughness, physicochemical treatments, and hydrostatic stability. Here, we first present a method of fabricating the PDMS sponges having numerous micro-sized pores that act as absorption and storage spaces for the target material, and then we report an experimental effort undertaken to control the surface physicochemistry (i.e., hydrophobicity or hydrophilicity) of the PDMS sponges by adjusting the size of the pores and the concentration of the surfactant (i.e., silwet L-77). From the experimental results, we develop an in-depth understanding of the mechanism for controlling the surface physicochemistry of PDMS using water-soluble micro-sized particles and a surfactant. The surface energy and absorbing behavior of the PDMS sponges are also extensively discussed.

  • Fuel injection pressure has steadily increased in diesel engines for the purpose of improving fuel efficiency and cleaning exhaust gas, but it has now reached a point, where the cost for higher pressure does not warrant additional gains. Common rail systems on modern diesel engines have fuel pumps that are mechanically driven by crankshaft. The pumps actually house two pumping module inside: a low pressure pump component and a high pressure pump component. Part of the fuel compressed by the low pressure component returns to the tank in the process of maintaining the pressure in the common rail. Since the returning fuel represents pumping loss, fuel economy improves if the returned fuel can be eliminated by using a properly controled electrical fuel pump. As the first step in developing an electrical fuel pump the fuel supply system on a 6 liter diesel engine was modeled with AMESim to analyze the workload and the fuel feed rate of the injection pump, and the results served as basis for selecting a suitable servo motor and a reducer to drive the pump. A motor controller was built using a DSP and a program which controls the common rail pressure using a proportional control method based on the target fuel pressure information from the engine ECU. A test rig to evaluate performance of the fuel pump is implemented and used to show that the newly developed electrically driven fuel pump can satisfy the fuel flow demand of the engine under various operating conditions when the rotational speed of the pump is adequately controlled.
