The random-based cleaning algorithm is a simple algorithm widely used in commercial vacuum cleaning robots. This algorithm has two limitations, that is, cleaning takes a long time and there is no guarantee that the cleaning will cover the whole cleaning area. This has lead to customer dissatisfaction. Thus, in recent years, many intelligent cleaning algorithms that takes into consideration information gathered from the cleaning area environment have been proposed. The plowing-based algorithm, which is the most efficient algorithm known to date when there are no obstacles in the cleaning area, has a deficiency that when obstacle prevail, its performance is not guaranteed. In this paper, we propose the Group-k algorithm that is efficient for that situation, that is, when obstacle prevail. The goal is not to complete the cleaning as soon as possible, but to clean the majority of the cleaning area as fast as possible. The motivation behind this is that areas close to obstacles are usually difficult for robots to handle, and hence, many require human assistance anyway In our approach, obstacles are grouped by the complexity of the obstacles, which we refer to as 'complex rank', and then decide the cleaning route based on this complex rank. Results from our simulation-based experiments show that although the cleaning completion time takes longer than the plowing-based algorithm, the Group-k algorithm cleans the majority of the cleaning area faster than the plowing algorithm.
A laser shock cleaning technology is a new dry cleaning methodology for the effective removal of small particles from the surface. This technique uses a plasma shock wave produced by a breakdown of air due to an intense laser pulse. In order to optimize the laser shock cleaning process, it needs to evaluate the cleaning performance quantitatively by using a monitoring technique. In this paper, an acoustic monitoring technique was attempted to investigate the laser shock cleaning process with an aim to optimize the cleaning process. A wide-band microphone with high sensitivity was utilized to detect acoustic signals during the cleaning process. It was found that the intensity of the shock wave was strongly dependent on the power density of laser beam and the gas species at the laser beam focus. As a power density was larger, the shock wave became stronger. It was also seen that the shock wave became stronger in the case of Ar gas compared with air and N$_2$ gas.
In this study, performances of two cleaning methods were analyzed and a cleaning system was designed to develop a cleaning process of electronic components to remanufacture old laser copy machine. First, plasma cleaning as a dry cleaning method was executed to test cleaning ability. In cleaning of printed circuit board (PCB) by plasma, some damages were found near the metal parts, and considering the productivity, this method was not adequate for the cleaning of electronic components. With 4 different cleaning agents, ultrasonic cleaning tests were executed to select an optimal cleaning agent, aqueous agents showed superior cleaning performance compared to semi-aqueous and non-aqueous agents. Cleaning with aqueous cleaning agent A and 28 kHz ultrasonic frequency can be completed in 30 sec to 1 min. Finally, an ultrasonic cleaning system was constructed based on the pre-test results. Optimal cleaning conditions of 40 kHz and $50^{\circ}C$ were found in the field test. The productivity and economic efficiency in remanufacturing of laser copy machine are expected to increase by adapting developed ultrasonic cleaning system.
Alteration of physical and chemical characteristics and the effect of removal of mineral substances in waterlogged archaeological woods by different cleaning processes were examined using oak wood(Quercus spp.) that was excavated from wetland near Gwangju, Korea. Cleaning methods employed in the present work were (1) tools, (2) deaeration, (3) EDTA and (4) ultrasonic cleaning, which are being currently applied in the field of preservation treatment. Cleaning process were performed independently or continuously. Composition of mineral substances in the waterlogged archaeological wood was almost same as the that of soil in which waterlogged archaeological woods were buried. In case of independent cleaning, tools cleaning efficiently removed the mineral substances on surface. Surface color become brighter after cleaning with EDTA. In contrast, deaeration and ultrasonic cleaning did not show any significant removal of mineral substances. In continuous cleaning process, tool cleaning as the first step treatment showed the same effect as shown in independent cleaning. Although deaeration as the second step cleaning did not remove the mineral substances, it could be assumed to contribute the infiltration of dimensional agents by homogenization of wood. EDTA treatment (the third step cleaning) removed the iron(Fe) and increased the whiteness of wood color. The ultrasonic treatment (the fourth step cleaning) removed the sodium(Na) remained after EDTA treatment and the fine mineral substances.

Non-aqueous cleaning agents were formulated with 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol (TFEA) and hydrofluoroether (HFE), and their physical properties and cleaning abilities were examined. TFEA-based aqueous cleaning agents were also formulated with nonionic surfactants, hydrotropes and builders, and their cleaning abilities were compared. Possibilities of these cleaning agents as substitutes for CFC-113 and 1,1,1-TCE were finally evaluated. In this work, fluxes, cutting oils, greases, and fluoric oils were selected as model contaminants for cleaning experiments. These contaminants have different properties of water-solubility or hydrophilicity, and fat-solubility or lypophilicity. Cleaning abilities of TFEA-based cleaning agents were analyzed and compared through the measurement of contaminant weight changes as a function of cleaning time, and their possibilities as alternative cleaning agents were evaluated. As a result, it was shown that TFEA and HFE-based non-aqueous cleaning agents have quite a good cleaning power for fluxes and fluorine soils but low one for greases. And TFEA-based agueous cleaning agents which consisted of nonionic surfactants, hydrotrope, and builders were very effective for cleaning fluxes and greases under certain formulation conditions. Thus, it was revealed that the TFEA-based cleaning agents were very effective for cleaning specific contaminants and can be used as substitutes for CFC-113 and 1,1,1-TCE in some industrial applications.
In order to choose alternative environmental-friendly cleaning agents, it is very important in the present point that the systematic selection procedures should be introduced and applied to the industry through the evaluation of their cleaning ability, environmental characteristics, and economical factors, and that the objective and effective evaluation methods of cleanliness should be established for the industry. Thus, a novel cleaning evaluation method utilizing optically stimulated electron emission (OSEE) among various methods of cleaning ability was studied in this study. The contaminants used in this cleaning experiments were flux, solder, grease, cutting oil, and mixed soil of 35% grease and 65% cutting oil. The cleaning agents developed or prepared in our laboratory were employed and their cleaning ability were comparatively evaluated by the OSEE, gravimetry and contact angle methods. The experimental results in this work showed that flux cleaning efficiency measured by the OSEE method was similar to that of the gravimetric method, but that the OSEE method could not be compared with gravimetric method for the case of solder or grease cleaning because the contaminants radiate or absorb ultra-violet light. In case of cutting oil cleaning, the gravimetric method indicated its limitation of cleaning efficiency of cutting oil since it showed cleaning efficiency of 100%, even though residual soil remaining on the substrate surface a little after its cleaning. The comparative experimental results of cleaning ability evaluated by the OSEE- and contact angle measurement methods showed that they were similar in case of cleaning of flux, mixed soil and cutting oil. It was judged that the contact angle measurement method could evaluate the cleaning ability more precisely than the OSEE method for cleaning solder and grease.
Ozone micro-bubble cleaning system was designed, and made to develop a unique technique to clean wafers by using ozone micro-bubbles. The ozone micro-bubble cleaning system consisted of loading, cleaning, rinsing, drying and un-loading zones, respectively. In case of the cleaning the silicon wafers of a solar cell, more than 99 % of cleaning efficiency was obtained by dipping the wafers at 10 ppm of ozone for 10 minutes. Both of long cleaning time and high ozone concentration in the wet-solution with ozone micro-bubbles reduced cleaning efficiency because of the re-sorption of debris. The cleaning technique by ozone micro-bubbles can be also applied to various wafers for an ingot and LED as an eco-friendly method.

The field of printing to use pressurized ink using screen gossamer that is called screen printing. Existing cleaning solvents for the screen printing are the organic solvents containing aromatic compounds and stench. Also, Cleaning method of screen printing are for the most part mixed cleaning method of dipping and polish. In this study, we measured the cleaning efficiency by gravimetric analysis and the property change of gossamer by image analyzer using existing cleaning solvent. Also, we investigated a new cleaning process showing excellent cleaning efficiency using the ultrasonic and vibration cleaning method instead of the exsiting mixed cleaning method.
Recently researches on the window cleaning robot are being conducted actively. Moving mechanismsof these window cleaning robots are divided into two categories, which are towed type and walking type. Towed type is focused on fast cleaning on the flat surface of building and walking type has priority on cleaning task on relatively complex surface with overcoming obstacles. Currently commercialized towed type window cleaning robot has weakness that it is hard to adhere closely with the wall and easy to be affected by wind. In case of walking type it has the problem that the position errors are continuously accumulated during motion. In this paper, we propose new towed and walking type mechanism which can compensate previous weaknesses. After that we estimate the performance of each proposed mechanism by simulation.
The removal of the dusts in the subway stations, tunnels, factories and buildings becomes issue for comfortable indoor and outdoor conditions. There has been used an automatic self-cleaning filter system to collect the dusts. In general, the collected particles are removed by water spray nozzles. The new design for improving the cleaning efficiency of collected dusts and reducing the supplied water is the concept of the plane array of demister filters and the twin-fluid nozzle for mixing compressed air and water in the automatic self-cleaning filter system. Results show that the cleaning efficiency of twin-nozzle filter systems is 99.1%, compared to 47% in the conventional filter system. Therefore the automatic self-cleaning filter system using twin-fluid nozzle filter systems reduces water supplied in the filter system, and increases cleaning efficiency and drying efficiency.
