  • In addition to identifying genetic differences between target populations, it is also important to determine the impact of genetic differences with regard to the respective target populations. In recent years, there has been an increasing number of cases where this approach is needed, and thus various statistical methods must be considered. In this study, genetic data from populations of Southeast and Southwest Asia were collected, and several statistical approaches were evaluated on the Y-chromosome short tandem repeat data. In order to develop a more accurate and practical classification model, we applied gradient boosting and ensemble techniques. To infer between the Southeast and Southwest Asian populations, the overall performance of the classification models was better than that of the decision trees and regression models used in the past. In conclusion, this study suggests that additional statistical approaches, such as data mining techniques, could provide more useful interpretations for forensic analyses. These trials are expected to be the basis for further studies extending from target regions to the entire continent of Asia as well as the use of additional genes such as mitochondrial genes.

  • This study divided the large-scale traffic accident locations into its own characteristics by using Cluster Analysis. Also, Quantification II and Classification and Regression Tree methods were used enabling evaluation for the amount of affecting influence by the crash type. After these analyses, we tested the fitness of the results and suggested the simplification of the quantification index. With the results from the discussed procedure, obvious differences were observed by groups according to the characteristics of crash type from the Discrimination and Classification analysis of divided four groups. Thus, measures and supplementary measures for the traffic accidents could be suggested in groups systematically. However, a lot of missing values in variables caused a huge loss of data and made this study difficult for more detailed analysis, With this difficulty. recording mandatory log files with a standardized format is also recommended to Prevent this Problem in advance.

  • This study proposed an analysis framework for real-time prediction of CNC processing defects using machine learning-based models that are recently attracting attention as processing defect prediction methods, and applied it to CNC machines. Analysis shows that the XGBoost, CatBoost, and LightGBM models have the same best accuracy, precision, recall, F1 score, and AUC, of which the LightGBM model took the shortest execution time. This short run time has practical advantages such as reducing actual system deployment costs, reducing the probability of CNC machine damage due to rapid prediction of defects, and increasing overall CNC machine utilization, confirming that the LightGBM model is the most effective machine learning model for CNC machines with only basic sensors installed. In addition, it was confirmed that classification performance was maximized when an ensemble model consisting of LightGBM, ExtraTrees, k-Nearest Neighbors, and logistic regression models was applied in situations where there are no restrictions on execution time and computing power.

  • Human biosignals provide essential information for diagnosing diseases such as dementia and Parkinson's disease. Owing to the shortcomings of current clinical assessments, noninvasive solutions are required. Machine learning (ML) on wearable sensor data is a promising method for the real-time monitoring and early detection of abnormalities. ML facilitates disease identification, severity measurement, and remote rehabilitation by providing continuous feedback. In the context of wearable sensor technology, ML involves training on observed data for tasks such as classification and regression with applications in clinical metrics. Although supervised ML presents challenges in clinical settings, unsupervised learning, which focuses on tasks such as cluster identification and anomaly detection, has emerged as a useful alternative. This review examines and discusses a variety of ML algorithms such as Support Vector Machines (SVM), Random Forests (RF), Decision Trees (DT), Neural Networks (NN), and Deep Learning for the analysis of complex clinical data.

  • This paper proposes a variable break that can offset prediction error as well as a pre-selection methods, based on the variable break, for enhanced unit selection. In Japanese, a sentence consists of several APs (Accentual phrases) and MPs (Major phrases), and the breaks between these phrases must predicted to realize text-to-speech systems. An MP also consists of several APs and plays a decisive role in making synthetic speech natural and understandable because short pauses appear at its boundary. The variable break is defined as a break that is able to change easily from an AP to an MP boundary, or from an MP to an AP boundary. Using CART (Classification and Regression Trees), the variable break is modeled stochastically, and then we pre-select candidate units in the unit-selection process. As the experimental results show, it was possible to complement a break prediction error and improve the naturalness of synthetic speech.

  • To minimize the spreading effect from the events of the system, a rule-based expert system is very effective. However, because the events of the large-scale system are diverse and the load condition is very variable, it is very difficult to construct the rule-based expert system. To solve this problem, this paper studies a methodology which constructs a rule-based expert system by applying a CART(Classification and Regression Trees) algorithm based decision tree determination method to event case examples.
