In this paper, we propose a new image retrieval algorithm using the block classification. More specifically, we classify nonoverlappint small image blocks into texture, monotone, and various edges. Using these classification results and the RGB color histogram, we propose a new similarity measure which considers both local and global fretures. According to our experimental results using 232 color images, the retrieval efficiencies of the proposed and the previous methods were 0.610 and 0.522, respectively, which implies that the proposed algorithm yields better performance.

Error Correcting Output Codes (ECOC) can improve generalization performance when applied to multicategory classification problem. In this study we propose a new criterion to select hyperparameters included in ECOC scheme. Instead of margins of a data we propose to use the probability of misclassification error since it makes the criterion simple. Using this we obtain an upper bound of leave-one-out error of OVA(one vs all) method. Our experiments from real and synthetic data indicate that the bound leads to good estimates of parameters.

In this paper, a new distributed parallel algorithm for pattern classification based upon Self-Organizing Neural Network(SONN)[10-12] is developed. This system works without any information about the number of clusters or cluster centers. The SONN model showed good performance for finding classification information, cluster centers, the number of salient clusters and membership information. It took a considerable amount of time in the sequential version if the input data set size is very large. Therefore, design of parallel algorithm is desirous. A new distributed parallel algorithm is developed and experimental results are presented.

This paper addresses a task of opinion extraction from given documents and its positive/negative classification. We propose a sentence classification method using a notion of syntactic piece. Syntactic piece is a minimum unit of structure, and is used as an alternative processing unit of n-gram and whole tree structure. We compute its semantic orientation, and classify opinion sentences into positive or negative. We have conducted an experiment on more than 5000 opinion sentences of multiple domains, and have proven that our approach attains high performance at 91% precision.

We may be given a set of observations with the classes or clusters. The aim of this article is to provide an up-to-date review of different approaches to classification, compare their performance on a wide range of challenging data-sets. In this paper, machine learning algorithm classifiers based on CART, C4.5, CAL5, FACT, QUEST and statistical discriminant analysis are compared on various datasets in classification error rate and algorithms.

The slamming impact pressures at the bottom area of the Open60' are evaluated by the rules and regulations of various organizations - ISO and classification societies. The enhanced performance of the modern racing yacht in terms of speed which achieves well over 20 knots needs special consideration. The calculated design impact pressures are compared a experimental results. Severe difference can be found in these calculation results but the final conclusion shall be obtained after the scantling calculation under the evaluated design impact pressure so far.

Automatic recognition of seal imprint has been required in the oriental countries. In this paper, a hierarchical approach for seal imprint verification is presented. Global features are used for seal imprint description in the first step. In the second step, conventional and several proposed local features are used to detect useful informations such as size, distribution and relative position of stroke length from seal imprint. In the last step, seal imprints are classified into one of three categories 'accept', 'ambiguous' and reject', based on the hierarchical classification. Experimental results show good performance on classification and recognition.

In order to provide value-added services, next generation routers should perform packet classification for each incoming packet at wire-speed. In this paper, we proposed hierarchical priority trio (Hptrie) for packet classification. The proposed scheme improves the search performance and the memory requirement by replacing empty internal nodes in ordinary hierarchical trio with priority nodes which are the nodes including the highest priority rule among sub-trie nodes.

In this paper, we propose efficient total recognition system of handwritten and printed numerals for enhancing the classification time. The proposed system consist two step neuroclassifier: Printed numerals classifier and Handwritten numerals classifier. The performance of the propose classifier was tested on 5000 handwritten numerals database of NIST and 100 printed numerals database. The combustion properties of sandwich panels were tested and analyzed according to ISO 13784-1(Room Corner Test for Sandwich panel building systems) test method for the purpose of establishing the classification of reaction to fire performance. Several variables including heat release rate, smoke production rate, FIGRA, SMOGRA, and so on, were analyzed for specific four materials about sandwich panel systems on each 5 times, totally 20 times. Finally, elements for Classification system were suggested and evaluations for those elements were made.
