In a simple system, the control schemes work well provided that the characteristic of the plant or the coefficients are known and fixed. But the condition is not met in the system like satellite, for example, varying over time and the coefficients of dynamic system change due to disturbance, etc, and the better precise model is required to control the given dynamic system well. Conversely, the fixed controller make the unmodel dynamic system with a wide class of modelling error be stable within the error tolerance limits. Also, a robust model reference adaptive control scheme is designed for the plant, paying attention to the derivation of the appropriate parametric model and the design of the normalizing signal to guarantee that it has the desired properties.
In variable structure control algorithms, The control law used to realized the desired sliding mode dynamics is discontinuous on the switching manifold. However, due to imperfections in switching, such as time delays, the system trajectory chatters instead of sliding along the switching manifold. This chattering is undesirable because it may excite unmodeled high frequency dynamics in the physical system. In this paper, to overcome this drawback a self-organizing fuzzy sliding mode control algorithm using gradient descent method is proposed. The proposed method has the characteristics which are viewed in conventional VSC, e.g. insensitivity to a class of disturbance, parameter variations and uncertainties ill the sliding mode. To demonstrate its performance, the proposed control algorithm is applied to an inverted pendulum system. The results show that both alleviation of chattering and performance are achieved.

An integrated robust fault diagnosis and fault accommodation strategy for a class of linear stochastic systems subjected to unknown disturbances is presented under the assumption that only a single fault may occur at a given time. The strategy is based on the fault isolation and estimation using a bank of robust two-stage Kalman filters and introduction of the additive compensation input for cancelling out the fault's effect on the system. Each filter is set up such that the residual is decoupled from unknown disturbances and fault with the influence vector designed in the filter. Simulation results for the simplified longitudinal flight control system with parameter uncertainties, process and sensor noises demonstrate the effectiveness of the present approach.
The recently-developed off-line learning control approaches for the rejection of periodic disturbances utilize the specific property that the learning system tends to oscillate in steady state. Unfortunately, the prior works have not clarified how closely the learning system should approach the steady state to achieve the rejection of periodic disturbances to satisfactory level. In this paper, we address this issue extensively for the class of linear systems. We also attempt to remove the effect of other aperiodic disturbances on the rejection of the periodic disturbances effectively. In fact, the proposed learning control algorithm can provide very fast convergence performance in the presence of aperiodic disturbance. The effectiveness and practicality of our work is demonstrated through mathematical, performance analysis as well as various simulation results.
For several decades, VSC has gained much attention as one of the useful design tools for handling the practical system with uncertainties or disturbances. Generally, the disturbances in the matching condition can be perfectly rejected via VSC; however, these in the mismatching condition are known to be hardly rejected. There have been some trials on it, in which the resulting controls in fact belong to the class of robust control guaranteeing disturbance ${\gamma}$-attenuation. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a new Variable Structure Control (VSC) for a system with mismatched disturbances. The proposed controller is composed of linear and nonlinear parts; the former plays a role in stabilizing the system and the latter takes care of attenuating the disturbances. The main contribution is to introduce the concept of switching-zone, rather than switching-surface, that is designed through piece-wise Lyapunov functions. The resulting non-convex conditions are formulated with an iterative linear programming algorithm, which provides an excellent performance of almost rejecting the disturbances.

In this paper, the theoretical development to stabilize a class of uncertain time-delay systems via sliding mode control is presented. The system under consideration is described in state space model containing state delay, uncertain parameters and disturbance. The main idea is to reduce the state of delayed system, by employing the generalize linear transformation, into an equivalent one with no delay inside, which is easier to analyze its behavior and stability. Then, the sliding control approach is employed to find the stabilizing control law. Finally, a numerical simulation is illustrated to show the algorithm for applying the proposed theorems and the efffetiveness of the designed control law in stabilizing the controlled systems.
In this paper, we proposed a self tuning adaptive fuzzy sliding control algorithms using gadient descent method to reduce chattering phenomenon which is viewed in variable control system. In design of FLC, fuzzy control rules are obtained from expert's experience and intuition and it is very difficult to obtain them. We proposed an adaptive algorithm which is automatically updated by consequence part parameter of control rules in order to reduce chattering phenomenon and simultaneously to satisfy the sliding mode condition. The proposed algorithm has the characteristics which are viewed in conventional VSC, e.g. insensitivity to a class of disturbance, parameter variations and uncertainties in the sliding mode. To demonstrate its performance, the proposed control algorithm is applied to an inverted pendulum system. The results show that both alleviation of chattering and performance are achieved.
light rail vehicle is modeled as a 2 d. o. f linear system for the design of vertical suspension characteristics and a 4 d. o. f. linear system for the design of lateral suspension characteristics. FRA's class-5-track irregularity is used for the exciting disturbance on track. Suspension stiffness and damping is selected on the basis of the ride quality and suspension stroke trade-off for the bogie of light rail vehicle. The optimum value of primary and secondary suspension characteristics is determined. And the stability of full vehicle model for the LRV is analyzed using the VAMPIRE program and critical speed is determined.
This paper presents a neural network based variable structure control scheme for nonlinear systems. In this scheme, a set of local variable structure control laws are designed on the basis of the linear models about preselected representative points which cover the range of the system operation of interest. From the combination of the set of local variable structure control laws, neural networks infer the approximate control input in between the operating points. The neural network based variable structure control alleviates the effects of model uncertainties, which cannot be compensated by the control techniques using feedback linearization. It also relaxes the discontinuity in the system’s behavior that appears when the control schemes based on the family of the linear models are applied to nonlinear systems. Simulation results of a ball and beam system, to which feedback linearization cannot be applied, demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method.
This paper presents a non-regressor based adaptive control scheme for the trajectory tracking of underwater vehicle-mounted manipulator systems(UVMS). The adaptive control system includes a class of unmodeled effects is applied to the trajectory control of an UVMS. The only information required to implement this scheme ios the upper bound and lowe bound of the system parameter matrices the upper bound of unmodeled effects the number of joints the position and attitude of the vehicle and trajectory commands. The adaptive control law estimates control gains defined by the combinations of the bounded constants of system parameter matrices and of a filtered error equation. To evaluate the performance of the non-regressor based adaptive controller computer simulation was performed with a two-link planar robot model mounted on an underwater vehicle. The hydrodynamic effects acting on the manipulator are included. It is assumed that the vehicle's motion is slow and can be predicted with a proper compensator.
