여학생의 초경에 관한 조사 연구 (서울시내 여자중학생을 대상으로) (A study on the menarche of middle school girls in Seoul)

  • It is assumed that menarche is affected not only by the biological factors such as nutrition and genetic heritage, but also it is affected by other socio-cultural environmental factors including weather, geographic location, education and level of modernization. Also recent trend of menarche in Korea indicates that a lot of discussion are being generated to the need of sex education as a part of formal school education. The purpose of this study is to develop the school health education program by determine the age of menarche, the factors relavant to time of menarche and psycho-mental state of students at the time in menarche and investigate the present state of school health education relate to menarche of adolescents. The total number of 732 girls was drown from first, second and third grades of 4 middle schools in Seoul. For the data collection the survey was conducted during the period from May 1 to May 20, 1982 by using prepared questionair. The major results are summarized as follow; 1. Mean age at menarche and the percent distribution of menarche experienced. It was observed that about 68.7% of sampled students have been experienced menarche at the time interviewed. For the each group, age at menarche is revealed that among the students about 37.8% are experienced menarche for under 12 years old group, 62.1% for 13 year-old group, 80.6% for 14 year-old group and 95.5% for over 15 years old. In sum it was found that the mean age at menarche was 12.3 years old, ranged from age at 10 as earlist the age at 15 as latest. 2. Variables associated with age at menarche. 1) There was tendency those student who belong to upper class economic status have had menarche earlier than those student who belong to lower class. Therefore, economic status is closely related to age at menarche. 2) In time of mother's education level, it is also found that those students whose mother's education levels from high school and college are experienced menarche earlier than those students whose mother's education levels from primary school and no-education. 3) However, in connection with home discipline, there was no significant relationship between age at menarche and home disciplines which are being treated "Rigid", "Moderated ", "Indifferent". 4) Degree of communication between parents and daughter about sex matters was found to be associated each others in determination of age at menarche. 5) It was found that high association between mother's menarche age and their daughter's menarche age was observed. Mother's age at menarche earlier trend to be shown also as earlier of their daughters. 6) Those students belong to "D & E" of physical substantiality index are trend to be earlier in menarche than those students in the index "A & B". 3. Psycho-mental state at the time of menarche. Out of the total students 68.2% had at least one or more than one of subjective symptoms. Shyness was shown as most higher prevalent symptom and others are fear, emotional instability, unpleasant feeling, depression, radical behavior, inferior complex and satisfaction appeared. Very few cases are appeared be guilty and stealing feeling. 4. The present status of school health education program related to menarche. As to the source of information about menarche, teacher was a main source with average index 5.88 and the other informants were mother & family member, friends, books and magagines, movies, television, and radio. For the problem solving at menarche, mother & family members were subject to discussion with an average index 6.02 as high. The others for discuss and knowledge about menarche were books, magagine, friends, teachers, and self-learning based on own experienced. The time of learning about menarche, it was learned as highest percentage with 43.2% at a 6 grades of primary school, middle school with 34.4%, 5 grade of primary school with 18.2%, and 4 grade of primary school with 4.0% respectively.

원주시 도심 거점산림과 잔존산림의 식생구조 비교 연구 (Comparison of the Vegetation Structure between Base Mountain and Residual Mountain in the Urban Area, Wonju)

  • 본 연구는 원주시 도심지에 위치한 도심외부 거점산림인 봉화산과 도심내부 단절된 잔존산림인 학성공원, 일산공원, 무실공원을 조사분석하여 식생구조 특성을 비교하였다. 원주시 도시림 현존식생은 도심외부 거점산림은 신갈나무림과 아까시나무림이, 도심내부 단절된 잔존산림은 상수리나무림과 아까시나무림이 넓게 분포하였고 두 지역 모두 숲가꾸기 일환으로 숲관리가 이루어지고 있었다. DCA에 의하여 분류된 군집의 상대우점치와 흉고직경급별 분포 분석결과 추정되는 천이경향은 소나무군집으로 유지되는 군집(군집 B), 참나무류군집으로 유지되는 군집(군집 A, D, d), 외래식생군집으로 유지되는 군집(군집 C, E, F, e, f, g)으로 구분되었다. 도심외부 거점산림과 도심내부 단절된 잔존산림 모두 생태적 천이가 중단된 상태이었다. 하지만 외래식생군집으로 유지되는 군집의 생태적 천이 잠재성은 아교목층과 관목층에 출현하는 참나무류의 상대우점치와 흉고직경급별 분포 분석 결과 도심외부 거점산림이 도심내부 단절된 잔존산림 보다 높은 것으로 판단되었다. 종수 및 개체수와 종다양도 분석결과는 숲가꾸기 사업 시행에 따른 아교목층과 관목층의 감소, 시행 후 시간의 흐름에 따라 천이 초기 수종이 다양하게 출현하였다. 자연림과 인공림 간 종다양도 비교는 도심외부 거점산림과 도심내부 단절된 잔존산림 모두 간벌, 하예작업 등에 의한 인위적 교란의 영향으로 뚜렷한 경향이 나타나지 않았다. 유사도지수는 도심외부 거점산림 6개 군집은 17.76~52.22%이었고 도심내부 단절된 잔존산림 4개 군집은 13.34~37.01%로 도심내부 단절된 잔존산림 간의 유사도지수가 낮았다. 귀화식물 중 서양등골나물과 미국자리공은 도심내부 단절된 잔존산림에서 더 많이 출현하였다.

장애인 구강건강관리인력에 따른 구강환경관리능력 지수 비교 (The comparison of Patient Hygiene Performance(PHP) Index according to the number of Oral Health Care worker with Disabled)

  • Objectives: 현재 장애인의 구강건강은 구강건강전문인력인 치과위생사가 아닌 사회복지사가 책임지고 있는 실정이다. 장애인 복지시설에 상주하는 사회복지사에게 올바른 구강건강 관리방법을 제공함으로써 장애인 구강건강의 형평성 제고를 도모하고자 한다. Methods: 2019년 4월 13일부터 2019년 4월 20까지 서울시 송파구에 위치한 'o' 장애인 복지시설에 거주하는 1급 지적장애인을 대상으로 식후 치과위생사 4명과 사회복지사 4명이 잇솔질 시행 후 구강환경관리능력지수(PHP Index)를 측정하여 비교하였다. 사전에 사회복지사 4명에게 잇솔질(회전법)을 교육하였으며, 잇솔질 방법과 검사 측정 도구를 통일하였다. 대상자의 구강보건지식을 평가하기 위해 자기기입식 설문지를 사용하였고, 구강보건지식점수 및 구강환경관리능력지수(PHP index) 점수의 평균, 대상자의 일반적 특성에 대해 Microsoft Office Excel ver.2016 을 이용하여 빈도 및 백분율 산출하였다(N%). Results: 치과위생사와 사회복지사의 구강보건지식 조사에서 모든 문항에서 치과위생사가 높은 점수를 나타냈다. 치과위생사와 사회복지사가 지적장애인을 대상으로 잇솔질(회전법) 실시 후 구강환경관리능력지수(PHP Index)를 비교했을 때 연령별, 성별 모든 분류에서 치과위생사의 구강환경관리능력지수(PHP Index)가 낮게 나타났다. 2차에 걸쳐 치과위생사와 사회복지사가 지적장애인을 대상으로 잇솔질(회전법) 실시 후 구강환경관리능력지수(PHP Index)를 비교했을 때 1차, 2차 모두 치과위생사의 구강환경관리능력지수(PHP Index)가 낮게 나타났다. Conclusions: 이상의 결과를 종합해 볼 때, 장애인들의 구강건강관리를 위해 치과위생사가 사회복지사보다 구강건강관리능력이 더 효율적인 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 장애인들의 입소시설에 치과위생사가 구강건강관리전문 인력으로 배치되어 장애인 및 사회복지사의 교육을 담당할 수 있는 환경이 조성되어야하며, 치과위생사를 양성하는 대학의 교육과정에도 장애인의 특성을 이해하는 교과목이 개설되어 전문성이 제고되어야 한다.

Landsat TM 화상을 이용한 당진군 일원의 논면적 추정 (Estimation of Rice-Planted Area using Landsat TM Imagery in Dangjin-gun area)

  • 논의 시기별 파장별 분광반사특성을 조사하기 위해, Landsat TM 밴드, RVI, 습윤도의 특성을 분산분석한 결과, 가시광선 영역의 TM 밴드 1, 2, 3의 논지역 평균 자료값은 식물색소에 의한 광흡수와 관련이 많아 군락형성이 최대인 8월 19일과 9월 1일에 가장 낮아졌다가 등숙기인 9월 중 하순에 다시 높아졌다. 중간 적외선 영역인 TM 밴드 5와 7은 수분에 민감하여, 담수상태로 수체의 영향이 컸던 5월 31일과 6월 2일의 자료값이 가장 낮았고, 군락의 최성기에서 성숙기로 접어들면서 식물체의 수분함량이 줄어들어 자료값이 점점 높아졌다. 한편, RVI는 출수ㆍ개화기인 8월 19일과 9월 1일에 가장 높았고, 습윤도는 벼의 생육초기에서 성숙기로 갈수록 계속 낮아졌다. 이앙기인 5월 31일, 출수기인 8월 19일 두시기 자료에서 수분에 민감한 TM 밴드 5, 식생의 특징이 드러나는 RVI, 또한 모든 밴드의 특성이 포함된 습윤도를 벼 재배면적 추정을 위한 정보로 이용하여, 이앙기에 담수상태이고 같은 지역이 출수기에 무성한 식생의 특징을 보이는 곳을 벼 재배지역으로 정하여 벼 재배면적 지도를 작성하였다. 벼 재배면적은 7291.19ha 추정되었고, 지형도를 이용한 100지점의 정확도 검증 결과 92%로 나타났다. 1991년 5월 31일과 8월 19일 두 시기의 Landsat TM 밴드 3, 4, 5, RVI 및 습윤도를 각각 유효밴드로 선정하여 중첩한 총 10개의 밴드를 가진 화상을 생성하여 기존의 분류법에 이용하였다. 최대우도법에 의한 감독분류 결과 벼 재배면적은 9100.98 ha였다. Error matrix에 의한 분류정확도는 97.2%로 나타났고, 지형도를 이용한 정확도는 95%로 나타났다. 분류항목수를 15개와 20개로 한 ISODATA법에 의한 비교사 분류결과 벼 재배면적이 각각 6663.60ha와 5704.56 ha로 추정되었고, 지형도에 의한 분류정확도는 각각 87%와 82%로 나타났다. 통계연보를 기준자료로 하여 분류방법간 비교를 위하여 당진군 우강면에 대하여 벼 재배면적 비교를 한 바 감독분류에 의해 2522.97ha로 가장 크게 추정되었고, 다음이 규칙기반분류와 분류항목수를 20으로 한 무감독분류법으로 각각 1567.31 ha와 1865.61 ha로 추정되었다. 분류항목수를 15로 한 무감독분류에 의한 벼 재배면적이 1638.72 ha로 가장 작게 추정되었다. 이때, 통계연보 자료상의 우강면의 논면적(2242.69ha)에 가장 가깝게 추정된 결과는 규칙기반분류이었다. 벼 재배지역은 추정방법에 관계없이 이앙기와 출수기, 두 시기의 자료를 이용한 경우 다소 차이는 있으나 정확하게 구분되었다. 위성의 분광반사 특성을 이용한 규칙기반분류는 매우 쉽고, 재현성이 있으며, 넓은 지역에 대한 신속한 작업이 가능하다.

A Study on the Brand Characteristics According to Trends in the Children's Apparel Market

  • Despite the decrease in the number of children due to low birth rate, the domestic children's apparel market has been achieving steady growth as family income is rising thanks to more opportunities for working women, parents spend more on their children, and they prefer brand products that make their children look special. In addition, the market is suffering from hard competition as large enterprises have joined the race. The present study purposed to survey the children's apparel market in Korea, which is in a transitional period, and to contribute to the development of the market with Korean brands. For this purpose, we analyzed the characteristics of children's apparel brands in the 21st century based on the current state of the domestic children's apparel market and, based on the findings, forecasted the future trend of children's apparel brands, suggested improvements for expected problems, proposed standards for coping with changes such as diversification, high quality and differentiation in the children's apparel market, and provided consumers with information on how to purchase products. According to the result of analyzing the characteristics of children's apparel brands in the 21st century, brands are categorized largely into four types - life cultural brands, functional product brands, character brands and brands advancing to China. Life cultural brands equipped with all necessities for children are expanding, and with the deepening social problems of environmental pollution and the reduction of the child population, functional products made of environment-friendly materials are spreading widely, targeting infants and children. Furthermore, for extending age targets and diversifying products, children's apparel is using characters. The use of characters is expected to have a considerable effect on the growth of brands because children are more subjective as consumers than before and they are more easily persuaded with characters. Domestic children's apparel brands advancing to China have a high expectation of success in overcoming the limitation of the local market that has reached its peak and growing into global brands. Korean apparel makers are struggling to overcome the depressed domestic market, to recover consumers' consumption, to cope with market opening, to pursue high value of sensibility and to expand the seniors' market, etc. In this situation, future trends of children's apparel brands will be the expansion of family brands, brand totalization, quality price, niche market (pre-teen market), etc. In response to these trends, we made the following suggestions for improvement. 1. Children's apparel brands are evolving into family brands as well as into total brands through voluming. Today, however, apparel makers are advancing to the children's apparel market with the concept of adults' apparel and, as a result, children's apparel is merely adults' apparel of reduced size, having problems in design, color and materials. Thus, apparel makers must develop design considering the wide range of size and the characteristics of children's apparel, strengthen sourcing abilities to create revenues, and make thorough survey of customers to find common denominators between adults' apparel and children's apparel considering that characteristic that the target class is different from the buyer class. Furthermore, they must make active investments in human resources, develop outstanding products through advanced planning and design, and support marketing techniques and management systems to stores. 2. As the declining birth rate will continue to have a negative effect on the market, it may be difficult to expand the market size but there is still a margin for growth through high-sensibility and high-quality products. The competitiveness of brands is determined by their market shares. Accordingly, concepts should be specialized according to lifestyle, customers' diverse needs should be satisfied, and cross-coordination should be achieved within a brand. 3. Considering Korean parents who do not spare investment in their children despite shrinking consumption, functional products must be high value-added goods that can enhance efficiency. However, in the current situation of the infants' apparel industry where a textile manufacturer supply its products to multiple brands, it is difficult to develop unique products only based on materials. Thus, it is considered urgent to appeal to consumers not by relying on materials only but by finding methods of applying their own characters to children's dress.

영주댐 담수 이후 저서성 대형무척추동물 군집변화 (Benthic Macroinvertebrate Community Changes after Impoundment of Yeongju dam in Korea)

  • 본 연구는 경상북도 영주시에 위치한 영주댐의 담수 이전과 이후의 자료를 비교 분석하여 인위적인 교란의 영향을 파악하고자 하였다. 조사시기는 2018년 4월부터 10월까지 총 4회 조사를 실시하였으며, 조사지점은 유사조절지(모래차단댐) 하류부터 영주댐 하류까지 총 4개의 지점을 선정하였다. 담수 이전의 자료는 문헌을 인용하여 분석하였다. 저서성 대형무척추동물은 총 3문 7강 14목 48과 77종 35,037개체/$m^2$가 출현하였다. 군집분석 결과 우점도지수는 0.44(${\pm}0.11$)에서 0.62(${\pm}0.16$), 다양도지수는 2.26(${\pm}0.30$)에서 1.75(${\pm}0.45$), 균등도지수는 0.75(${\pm}0.10$)에서 0.66(${\pm}0.14$), 풍부도지수는 3.11(${\pm}0.98$)에서 2.25(${\pm}0.81$)로 나타났으며, 우점종은 대부분 줄날도래류(Hydropsychidae spp.)에서 깔따구류(Chironomidae sp.)로 변화하였다. PCA 분석 결과 Axis 1을 기준으로 2014년 지점과 줄날도래류는 음의 값을 나타내었으며, 2018년 지점과 깔따구류는 양의 값을 나타내었다. 모든지점에서 우점도지수는 증가하고 다양도지수는 감소하였으며, St. 2에서 군집변화가 가장 큰 것으로 분석되었다. 기능군 분석 결과 섭석기능군은 긁어먹는무리(Scrapers)가 감소하고 주워먹는무리(Gathering-Collectors)는 증가하였으며, 서식기능군은 붙는무리(Clingers)가 감소하고 굴파는무리(Burrowers)는 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 저서동물 하천하상지수(BMSI) 분석 결과 평균 57.1(${\pm}8.0$, C 등급)에서 평균 30.0(${\pm}12.1$, C 등급)으로 감소하였으며, 특히 St. 3과 St. 4는 감소율이 높은 것으로 나타났다.

사무산(제천시)의 식물다양성과 식생 (Vascular Plant Diversity and Vegetation of Samusan Mt. in Jecheon-si, Korean Peninsula)

  • 본 연구는 사무산의 관속식물상을 밝히고 주요 식물을 조사하였다. 2014년 6월부터 2015년 10월까지 총 9회에 걸쳐 현지조사를 실시한 결과 관속식물은 108과 306속 424종 8아종 48변종 4품종 1교잡종으로 총 502분류군이 확인되었다. 식물종다양성이 높은 과는 국화과(70분류군), 화본과(52분류군), 장미과(30분류군), 콩과(28분류군), 사초과(20분류군)이었다. 한반도 고유종은 10분류군이며, IUCN 평가기준에 따른 적색목록식물은 14분류군으로 확인되었다. 식물구계학적 특정식물은 V등급 5분류군, IV등급 11분류군, III등급 14분류군, II등급 10분류군, I등급 21분류군으로 총 61분류군이 관찰되었다. 외래식물은 43분류군으로 귀화율 8.6%, 도시화지수 13.4%로 나타났다. 삼림식생은 소나무림과 굴참나무림, 상수리나무림, 신갈나무림, 느티나무림, 아까시나무림으로 대별된다. 삼림의 수직구조는 안정적이며, DBH-Class 분석 결과는 교목층의 우점종이 한동안 유지될것으로 나타났다. 사무산은 식물종다양성이 높고 고유종, 희귀식물, 호석회성식물 등 주요 식물들이 다수 분포하며, 식물지리학적 가치가 높은 것으로 생각된다. 이러함에도, 인위적인 교란과 훼손에 대한 어떠한 보호조치도 없기 때문에 생물자원이 지속적으로 소실되고 있다. 따라서 산림식생 보전을 위한 대책이 마련될 필요가 있다.

지리산 아고산대 구상나무 자생지의 8년간 식생 변화 (Vegetation Change of Abies koreana Habitats in the Subalpine Zone of Mt. Jirisan over Eight Years)

  • 아고산 생태계를 구성하는 침엽수종은 기후변화에 매우 취약하므로 아고산대 산림의 군집 및 개체군 동태에 대한 모니터링의 중요성이 대두되고 있다. 본 연구는 8년간 지리산 구상나무 자생지에 설치된 37개의 식생조사구를 중심으로 식생변화 연구를 진행하였다. 조사된 데이터를 바탕으로 층위별 중요치, 고사율 및 이입률, 흉고단면적, 흉고직경급 분포, 수간건강상태 등 시계열적 변화를 분석하였다. 층위별 중요치 분석 결과, 교목층에서 구상나무는 8년간 3.6% 감소하였고, 덩굴 식물인 미역줄나무는 2.5% 증가하였다. 2015년 대비 2023년 구상나무는 149본/ha의 고사(고사율 17.99%)와 12본/ha의 진계 생장(이입률 1.02%)이 발생하였으며, 생육목 개체수의 감소로 인해 흉고단면적이 줄어든 것으로 판단되었다. 구상나무의 고사목은 모든 직경급에서 발생하고 있으며 특히 10 cm 미만에서 65본/ha 감소로 많은 개체수가 감소하였다. 수간건강상태 변화 과정을 살펴본 결과, 2015년 Alive Standing(AS) 형태의 구상나무 개체군 539본/ha은 8년 경과 후 69.7% (AS), 0.5% (Alive Leaning, AL), 13.8% (Dead Standing, DS) 등으로 변화되었으며, DS는 Dead Broken (DB)와 Dead Fallen (DF)로 대부분 변화하였다. 생육목이 고사목으로 바뀌고, 고사목은 부러지거나 쓰러지게 된 원인은 아고산대의 매우 강한 바람으로 토양에 밀착하여 자라는 세근들이 토양과 분리되면서 나타난 것으로 판단되었다.

간호학 교과과정 개선을 위한 조사 연구 (A Study on improvement of curriculum in Nursing)

  • This Study involved the development of a survey form and the collection of data in an effort-to provide information which can be used in the improvement of nursing curricula. The data examined were the kinds courses currently being taught in the curricula of nursing education institutions throughout Korea, credits required for course completion, and year in-which courses are taken. For the purposes of this study, curricula were classified into college, nursing school and vocational school categories. Courses were directed into the 3 major categories of general education courses, supporting science courses and professional education course, and further subdirector as. follows: 1) General education (following the classification of Philip H. phoenix): a) Symbolics, b) Empirics, c) Aesthetics. 4) Synthetics, e) Ethics, f) Synoptic. 2) Supporting science: a) physical science, b) biological science, c) social science, d) behavioral science, e) Health science, f) Educations 3) Professional Education; a) basic courses, b) courses in each of the respective fields of nursing. Ⅰ. General Education aimed at developing the individual as a person and as a member of society is relatively strong in college curricula compared with the other two. a) Courses included in the category of symbolics included Korean language, English, German. Chines. Mathematics. Statics: Economics and Computer most college curricula included 20 credits. of courses in this sub-category, while nursing schools required 12 credits and vocational school 10 units. English ordinarily receives particularly heavy emphasis. b) Research methodology, Domestic affair and women & courtney was included under the category of empirics in the college curricula, nursing and vocational school do not offer this at all. c) Courses classified under aesthetics were physical education, drill, music, recreation and fine arts. Most college curricula had 4 credits in these areas, nursing school provided for 2 credits, and most vocational schools offered 10 units. d) Synoptic included leadership, interpersonal relationship, and communications, Most schools did not offer courses of this nature. e) The category of ethics included citizenship. 2 credits are provided in college curricula, while vocational schools require 4 units. Nursing schools do not offer these courses. f) Courses included under synoptic were Korean history, cultural history, philosophy, Logics, and religion. Most college curricular 5 credits in these areas, nursing schools 4 credits. and vocational schools 2 units. g) Only physical education was given every Year in college curricula and only English was given in nursing schools and vocational schools in every of the curriculum. Most of the other courses were given during the first year of the curriculum. Ⅱ. Supporting science courses are fundamental to the practice and application of nursing theory. a) Physical science course include physics, chemistry and natural science. most colleges and nursing schools provided for 2 credits of physical science courses in their curricula, while most vocational schools did not offer t me. b) Courses included under biological science were anatomy, physiologic, biology and biochemistry. Most college curricula provided for 15 credits of biological science, nursing schools for the most part provided for 11 credits, and most vocational schools provided for 8 units. c) Courses included under social science were sociology and anthropology. The total number of units provided in the greatest number of vocational schools is thus Ⅲ units double the number provided in nursing schools and colleges. c) In th leges, the second year is devoted mainly to basic nursing courses, while the third and fourth years are used for advanced nursing courses. In nursing schools and vocational schools, the first year deals primarily with basic nursing and the second and third years are used to cover advanced nursing courses. The study yielded the following conclusions. 1. Instructional goals should be established for each courses in line with the idea of nursing, and curriculum improvements should be made accordingly. 2. Course that fall under the synthetics category should be strengthened and ways should be sought to develop the ability to cooperate with those who work for human welfare and health. 3. The ability to solve problems on the basis of scientific principles and knowledge and understanding of man society should be fostered through a strengthening of courses dealing with physical sciences, social sciences and behavioral sciences and redistribution of courses emphasizing biological and health sciences. 4. There should be more balanced curricula with less emphasis on courses in the major There is a need to establish courses necessary for the individual nurse by doing away with courses centered around specific diseases and combining them in unified courses. In addition it is possible to develop skill in dealing with people by using the social setting in comprehensive training. The most efficient ratio of the study experience should be studied to provide more effective, interesting education Elective course should be initiated to insure a man flexible, responsive educational program. 5. The curriculum stipulated in the education law should be examined.

Characterization of Respirable Suspended Particles and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons associated with Environmental Tobacco Smoke

  • In this study, the concentrations of particulate organic constituents of environmental tobacco smoke(ETS) were determined using an environmental smog chamber, where ETS is the sole source of target compounds. ETS was generated in a 30 ㎥ environmental chamber by a number of different cigarettes, including the Kentucky 1R4F reference cigarette and eight commercial brands. A total of 12 experimental runs was conducted, and target analytes included a group of ETS markers both in vapor and particulate phase and a class of polycylic aromatic hydrocarbos(PAHs) associated with ETS particles. The mass concentrations of PAH in ETS particles were also determined. The average contents of benzo(a) pyrene and benzo(a) anthracene in ETS particles for the commercial brands were 12.8 and 21.5$\mu\textrm{g}$/g, respectively, There values are all somewhat higher than those determined previously by other studies. Results form the chamber study are further used to estimate the average and variability of cigarette yields for target compounds associated with ETS. Finally, ratios of RSP to the surrogate standards of UVPM, FPM and solanesol were calculated for each sample. The average conversion factors factors for the eight commercial brands were 7.3, 38, and 41 for UVPM, EPM, and solanesol, respectively. The UVPM and FPM factors are in good agreement with the recently published values. Whereas there might be a substantial difference in the solanesol content among cigarettes produced in different countries, the variability is somewhat greater than those of UVPM and FPM, Unfortunately, comparison of the PAH yield data from this study with literature values was complicated by a lack of consistency in cigarette smoke generating methodology. Validation of the PAH yields was also difficult due to a lack of information on the ETS related PAH in the literature. From and engineering viewpoint , however, these data on the cigarette yields of ETS components may still provide useful information to studies on the mathematical modeling of indoor air quality management regarding tobacco smoke as a source of interest, or to studies on the assessment of human exposure to ETS.
