  • The paper deals with comparative study of various surrogate models based approximate optimization in the structural design of the passive type deck support frame under design load conditions. The passive type deck support frame was devised to facilitate both transportation and installation of 20,000 ton class topside. Structural analysis was performed using the finite element method to evaluate the strength performance of the passive type deck support frame in its initial design stage. In the structural analysis, the strength performances were evaluated for various design load conditions. The optimum design problem based on surrogate model was formulated such that thickness sizing variables of main structure members were determined by minimizing the weight of the passive type deck support frame subject to the strength performance constraints. The surrogate models used in the approximate optimization were response surface method, Kriging model, and Chebyshev orthogonal polynomials. In the context of numerical performances, the solution results from approximate optimization were compared to actual non-approximate optimization. The response surface method among the surrogate models used in the approximate optimization showed the most appropriate optimum design results for the structure design of the passive type deck support frame.

  • In this paper, a class of set-valued mappings is introduced, which is called uniformly same-order. For this sort of mappings, some minimax problems, in which the minimization and the maximization of set-valued mappings are taken in the sense of vector optimization, are investigated without any hypotheses of convexity.

  • Both combinatorial and parametric optimization are used in computer-aided design(CAD). The most commonly occuring parametric optimization problems in engineering design such as design of control systems, design of electric circuits are usually expressed either as differentiable or as nondifferentiable semi-infinite programming(SIP) problems. In this paper we express algorithms for a class of computer-aided design problems arising in control systems.

  • Optimum design of mooring dolphin is numerically investigated. Design optimization problem of moring dolphin is first formulated. Geometry and cross sections of piles are used as design variables. Design objective is the total weight of steel piles of mooring dolphin, and the constraints of stress, penetration depth, lower and upper bounds on design variables are imposed. Based on the design variable linking and fixing, several class of design variations are sought. For the numerical optimization, both PLBA(Pshenichny - Lim - Belegundu - Arora) program and DNCONF subroutine code in IMSL library are used. For a dolphin structure with 20 steel piles, vertical and inclined, optimum designs for different cases are successfully obtained, which can be applied for the mooring of a very large floating structure.

  • In this paper, the goal of optimization design is efficiency increase and vibration optimization. For this purpose, shape optimization design was performed using Quasi-Newton method, which is one of optimization techniques, and it was verified through finite element analysis In addition, modal analysis of the stator was performed to estimate the natural frequency. through the vibration experiment, the vibration was verified for cogging torque and RMF analysis. Finally, optimal and basic models were compared and analyzed for efficeincy characteristics.

  • This paper is estimating the domain of attraction for a class of susceptible-exposed-infectious-recovered (SEIR) epidemic dynamic models by using sum of squares optimization. First, the stability is analyzed for the equilibriums of SEIR model, and the domain of attraction in the endemic equilibrium is estimated by using sum of squares optimization. Finally, a numerical example is examined.

  • This paper presents a new method of classification of the induction machine faults using Time Frequency Representation, Particle Swarm Optimization and artificial neural network. The essence of the feature extraction is to project from faulty machine to a low size signal time-frequency representation (TFR), which is deliberately designed for maximizing the separability between classes, a distinct TFR is designed for each class. The feature vectors size is optimized using Particle Swarm Optimization method (PSO). The classifier is designed using an artificial neural network. This method allows an accurate classification independently of load level. The introduction of the PSO in the classification procedure has given good results using the reduced size of the feature vectors obtained by the optimization process. These results are validated on a 5.5-kW induction motor test bench.

  • This paper describes a direct search method for a class of linearly constrained optimization problem. Through research we find it can be treated as an unconstrained optimization problem. And with the decrease of dimension of the variables need to be computed in the algorithms, the implementation of convergence to KKT points will be simplified to some extent. Convergence is shown under mild conditions which allow successive frames to be rotated, translated, and scaled relative to one another.

  • Metaheuristic algorithms are efficient techniques for a class of mathematical optimization problems without having to deeply adapt to the inherent nature of each problem. They are very useful for structural design optimization in which the cost of gradient computation can be very expensive. Among them, the characteristics of simulated annealing and genetic algorithms are briefly discussed. In Metropolis genetic algorithm, favorable features of Metropolis criterion in simulated annealing are incorporated in the reproduction operations of simple genetic algorithm. Numerical examples of structural design optimization are presented. The example structures are truss, breakwater and steel box girder bridge. From the theoretical evaluation and numerical experience, performance and applicability of metaheuristic algorithms for structural design optimization are discussed.

  • This paper extends the existence proofs of a Nash equilibrium to a more general class of differentila game models with constraints on the control spaces. With the assumptions of continuity, convexity, and compactness, the existence is proved using Kakutani Theorem and via a path-following approach. Furthermore, the proof for a period-by-period optimization of multi-period problems provides an insight to a numerical solution algorithm to differential game models with constraints.
