Identification of Genetic and Non-genetic Risk Factors for Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma in a Southeast Asian Population

  • Background: Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is endemic in Southern Chinese and Southeast Asian populations. Geographical and ethnic clustering of the cancer is due to genetic, environmental, and lifestyle risk factors. This case-control study aimed to identify or confirm both genetic and non-genetic risk factors for NPC in one of the endemic countries, Malaysia. Materials and Methods: A panel of 768 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) previously associated with various cancers and known non-genetic risk factors for NPC were selected and analyzed for their associations with NPC in a case-control study. Results: Statistical analysis identified 40 SNPs associated with NPC risk in our population, including 5 documented previously by genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and other case-control studies; the associations of the remaining 35 SNPs with NPC were novel. In addition, consistent with previous studies, exposure to occupational hazards, overconsumption of salt-cured foods, red meat, as well as low intake of fruits and vegetables were also associated with NPC risk. Conclusions: In short, this study confirmed and/or identified genetic, environmental and dietary risk factors associated with NPC susceptibility in a Southeast Asian population.

제주도 특급관광호텔의 공공부분 평면구성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Plan Composition of Public Part of the Luxury Resort Hotels in Jeju-Do)

  • In order to overcome such limits of hotel sales, the role of hotel public section, such as eating and drinking facilities, is very important. Moreover, city hotels increase the value of public section by providing various event for citizens as well as and services for banquet. Since Jeju has urban hotels and resort hotels mixed together, their Plane types and area composition based on the characters of customers using the public section are different from ones of other cities. The purpose of this study is to provide basic material for the qualify improvement of the luxury resort hotels in Jeju. We examine the tendency of the systematic Plane composition of the Public sections which take different types of customers, such as Jeju people and tourists, into consideration, analyzing the plane types and the area composition of the luxury resort hotels in Jeju. The study shows that the public part of hotels always had great impact on hotels sales depending on the compositions of plane and area.

  • Tourism is a sector that plays an important role in the economic growth of Indonesia. Bandung as the capital of West Java province is known as the city with diverse tourism potential, both in the attractiveness of the city and surrounding natural beauty. DHR is a three stars resort hotel in the city with a strategic location. As a three stars resort hotel, DHR has been experiencing occupancy rate problems, consequently, it cannot often reach the set targets, both during high season and low season. The purpose of this study is to identify the factors of hotel performance that influences consumer staying back decision in the future. Questionnaires have been distributed to hotel guests to gather information regarding their interest and the performance assessment of the hotel services and facilities, and staying back decision in the future. Discriminant Analysis and Hypothesis Testing are used to determine which hotel performance variables will directly affect consumer staying back decision. The result of this study provide marketing strategy that should be implemented by the hotel management in order to increase its occupancy rate.

  • The usual definition of and urban resort was a place vastly different from places of daily life such as a theme park or other tourist destination. At the same time, revival of the combination of usual and unusual spaces, in a way like the mixed "Hare"(Special occasion of public event) and "Ke"(Daily life) spaces of communities of old Japan, is part of the idea of urban resorts. And they are places, which start by making a comfortable urban environment for citizens, providing a daily life full of culture and promoting a city′s identity to visitors. if we think about the kinds of structural elements of urban resorts, the usual elements include community, local culture and industry, while the unusual elements include symbols, festivities and interaction. Kobe Wing Stadium is a venue for the 2002 FIFA World Cup hosted by Korea and Japan. The city will build the stadium, but after construction management will be given over to private enterprise, hoping to utilize that sector′s business know how. A competition was held to determine the private executor who would be entrusted with the planning, design, construction and management of the project, considering the conditions of the area, the stadium′s relationship to it and local revitalization. The competition was won by a private enterprise (Kobe Steel Obayashi Group). The them of "Creation of a Sports Community Park" grapples with the large issue of the facility′s relationship with the community. American geographer Yi-fu Tuan coined the word "topophilia" to indicate love of a place. No other word could better describe the desired urban resort nature of the stadium. From this historical perspective it seems that stadiums have great potential as urban resorts. The factor that will determine their success is the attitude of citizens toward them, in short whether they develop topophilia for them or not. We examined the urban resort nature of Kobe Wing Stadium. Regarding daily life, we saw the attempts to revive the local community, the possibility of deepening the local culture and the weakened state of local industry. As a place that is for more than daily life, we saw the certainty of the stadium′s symbolism, its potential as a place for festivities and the test it will face as a space for interaction. Even though several issues are left for future resolution, evaluating Kobe Wing Stadium through these elements of an urban resort, it is clearly founded in the daily life of the community while providing a venue for "Hare"occasions. Fulfilling the roles of an urban resort, it provides many opportunities for local residents to enjoy their and gives visitors a reason to come repeatedly.

생태 군도도시 개발을 위한 계획기법·목적의 연관성 분석 (A correlation analysis of physical design method·purpose for eco-archipelagic city)

  • 본 연구는 군도개발을 위한 물리적 계획기법의 개발현황을 파악하고 계획기법과 개발목적 간의 연관성 분석을 통해 지속가능한 생태 군도도시 개발전략을 구축하는데 목표를 둔다. 첫째, 국내 외 사례의 비교분석에서는 친환경적으로 개발된 유럽사례가 환경론적 측면에서 다양한 개발테마에 맞게 적용되고 과학도시, 관광도시, 상업도시, 생태도시로서의 아이덴티티를 갖고 개발되고 있음의 결과를 얻었다. 그러나 국내사례는 인간중심의 관광도시 개발에만 집중하는 단기적 개발기법 적용이 대부분이었으며, 섬 내에 살고 있는 거주민들의 개발 지식정보 습득과 이해가 미비하여 향후 지속가능한 개발에 장애가 될 수 있음을 파악하였다. 둘째, 보다 체계적인 물리적 계획기법의 적용방향을 제시하기 위해 심층 분석을 실시하였다. 연구방법은 사례분석을 통해 도출한 계획기법을 계획목적을 중심으로 연관성 분석 실시하여 각 사례별 적용여부 및 개발동향을 파악하였다. 그 결과, 개발목적에 따른 컨텐츠와 물리적 계획기법들이 다각적 측면에서 개발해야 하고 또한, 현지주민은 지속적인 정보지식 공유와 외부인과의 소통을 원활히 할 수 있는 서비스 컨텐츠, 관련 인프라 확충을 해야 할 것이다.

부산의 해상관광활성화에 관한 혁신적 전략(1) (The Innovative Strategy on the Activation of Marine Tourism in Busan)

  • 부산은 지리적 특성으로 인하여 상공업이 발달하였고 정착기와 확산기를 맞이하였으며 무역도시로 발달하였다. 2000년 이후 인구감소, 제조업의 이전, 외래관광객의 감소 등으로 경제력이 약화되어 경쟁력을 잃고 있다. 이를 극복하기 위하여 항구적 해안의 지형적 지역의 전통산업적 국제교통적 특성의 강점을 이용하여 해상관광활성화의 혁신적 전략이 필요하다. 본 연구의 목적은 부산의 해상관광활성화의 전략을 규명하는 것으로 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 해안과 해상의 환경을 고려하여 해상관광의 거점을 선정하고 거점의 정체성을 규명하여 관광자원으로 개발되어야 한다. 둘째, 선정된 다수의 거점 중에서 핵심적인 관광거점은 외래관광객을 집중시키는 관광터미널의 기능이 필요하고 부산의 랜드마크가 되어야 한다. 셋째, 각각의 관광거점은 관광객이 다양한 해상관광활동을 체험할 수 있어야 하고 특화되어야 한다. 넷째, 해상관광거점은 해상관광루트로 연계되어야 한다. 다섯째, 해상관광의 비수기를 극복하기 위하여 관광거점을 중심으로 겨울관광상품인 실내 스케이트장과 스키장, 해수풀장과 인공해수욕장, 인공잔디썰매장, 인공해안절벽, 해수온천장 등의 관광자원개발이 요구된다.

Network Cooperation, Innovation, Internationalization and Economic Performance of SMEs: An Exploratory Study

  • This paper explores the relationship between network cooperation, innovation, internationalization and economic performance of manufacturing small and medium enterprises (SMEs) of engineering goods industry located in Bangalore city, India. At the outset, it is observed that SMEs receive the maximum assistance in the realm of product specifications. Moreover, they do not resort to manufacturing new products as much as they resort to product modifications or process improvements. Further, it is found (using Chi-square test of independence) that higher the network assistance received from an external network, greater is the innovation performance of SMEs. Subsequently, using analysis of variance (ANOVA), export intensity (proxy for internationalization performance) of SMEs is found to have a significant positive association with both the degree of their network cooperation and of their innovation performance. Lastly, it is observed that higher the degree of each of network cooperation, innovation performance and internationalization performance, better is the economic performance (measured by total sales turnover) of SMEs. These results have significant implications for the policy makers of the country to give due attention to network cooperation, innovation and internationalization as the means of enhancing the economic performance of SMEs.

`98 경주 세계 문화 엑스포를 중심으로 한 관광상품 개발 (A Study of the Development of Tour Commodities for '98 Kyongju World Culture Exposition)

  • 본 연구는 1998년 9월 11일부터 11월 10일까지 경주에서 개최되는 '98 경주 세계 문화 엑스포를 중심으로 한 관광상품을 개발하기 위한 목적으로 연구를 수행하였다. 그 결과 경주지역의 기존관광코스의 경우 경주시내의 사적지 관광에만 국한하였고, 경주시에서 설정한 5개 관광권의 경우에 기존의 관광루트에 전혀 포함되지 않는 관광권(동해안권 북부문화권)이 있어 새로운 관광코스의 개발이 절실하다 하겠다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이에 대한 해결책으로 6개 관광권을 묶어 '테마가 있는 문화 엑스포 관람'이라는 주제로 관광상품을 계획하였다. 경주시내권 서악권 불국사권을 묶어 '신라 유적 답사', 보문단지권은 '새 천년의 미소와 함께', 남산권은 '남산 불교 박물관 견학', 동해안권과 북부문화권을 끓어 '자연과 문화의 조화'라는 테마가 있는 여행을 제안한다.

대전광역시 중심지 위계 변화 분석 (Analysis of Central Place Hierarchy Change in Daejeon Metropolitan City)

  • 본 연구는 현재까지 제시되고 있는 계획상의 대전 도시의 중심지 체계를 정리 분석한 후, 도시공간구조 형성 및 GIS를 활용하여 중심지 형성에 영향을 주는 다양한 변수를 선정하여 중심지 등을 측정하고, 중심지 위계를 설정 제시 하고자 한다. 분석은 변형된 데이비스(W.K Davis)의 모형을 응용하여 $1km{\times}1km$ 격자(GRID) 단위로 2000년도와 2005년도의 중심지 측정 및 위계를 설정하였다. 분석 결과 2000년대는 1도심 2부도심으로 1도심은 은행 선화권인 기존도심이며, 2부도심은 관광중심지인 유성권과, 행정중심지인 둔산권으로 분석되었다. 2005년도에는 2도심 2부도심으로 2도심은 은행 선화권인 원도심과 행정중심지인 둔산신도심이고, 2부도심은 유성권과 대전고속터미널이 있는 용전권으로 설정되었다. 이러한 연구결과는 향후 도시공간정책을 지원하는데 도움을 줄 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.
