  • Bus Information System (BIS) services are expanding nationwide to small and medium-sized cities, including large cities, and user satisfaction is continuously improving. In addition, technology development related to improving reliability of bus arrival time and improvement research to minimize errors continue, and above all, the importance of information accuracy is emerging. In this study, accuracy performance was evaluated using LSTM, a machine learning method, and compared with existing methodologies such as Kalman filter and neural network. As a result of analyzing the standard error for the actual travel time and predicted values, it was analyzed that the LSTM machine learning method has about 1% higher accuracy and the standard error is about 10 seconds lower than the existing algorithm. On the other hand, 109 out of 162 sections (67.3%) were analyzed to be excellent, indicating that the LSTM method was not entirely excellent. It is judged that further improved accuracy prediction will be possible when algorithms are fused through section characteristic analysis.

  • In Korea, as the aging phenomenon accelerates, the problem of traffic accidents related to the elderly is continuously emerging. Efforts to improve this are being implemented, but unfortunately the results of these effects are not clear. Therefore, in this study, the effect of traffic characteristics and incentive policies on the return of driver's licenses of elderly drivers was reviewed. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that the intention to return the driver's license was low in the case of men, older people, those with low dependence on public transportation, those who undertook long driving hours, and those who took frequent trips. On the other hand, financial incentives were found to play a positive role with regard to the intention to return the driver's license. However, the effect is expected to be insignificant for those with a low intention to return the driver's license. As a result, under the current policy, it is predicted that there is a limit to improving the social problems caused by elderly drivers, meaning that it is necessary to review approaches that induce the return of their driver's licenses.

  • In this study, the distribution, bait preference, hosts, symbionts, habitat status, and cytochrome c oxidase subunit-I sequences of the ant Linepithema humile were analyzed. This species habitat comprised approximately 1.5 km along stone crevices, flower gardens, roadsides, and container yards in the vicinity of Busan station, Korea. Feeding activity of this species was confirmed in 9 species of 7 families of plants. Which was approximately 14% of total flora (63 species of 37 families) in the studied area. Particularly, it was observed that Dendranthema indicum and Camellia japonica were the most frequently visited. Further, we verified that they interacted with four species of aphids. We identified 22 species of ants (17 genera, 4 subfamilies) inhabiting the Busan station area, including L. humile, Tetramorium tsushimae, Nylanderia flavipes and the alien species Paratrechina longicornis. In areas where L. humile was the dominant species, the habitat of local native ants was reduced by approximately 30%. Bait preference was ranked in the following order: jelly, water with glucose (25%), and yogurt, with the highest preference for baits containing sugar and protein. The 630-bp cytochrome c oxidase subunit-I sequences of the local L. humile populations were 99% identical to those of L. humile in the National Center for Biotechnology Information database, and the Argentine ants that invaded Korea had a sequence identical to that of other invasive populations from China, Japan, and New Zealand. As L. humile rapidly increases due to domestic adaptation, continuous monitoring and control strategy for eradication are needed to protect domestic biodiversity.

  • There are only 14 public medical facilities available to residents regularly in the island area of Chungcheongnam-do, one health life support center, and one hospital ship, and these facilities and equipment cannot effectively respond to emergency patients such as severe trauma, cerebrovascular and cardiovascular diseases. The fastest means of transporting emergency patients is to use a doctor helicopter deployed at Dankook University Hospital (based in Cheonan). However, there is only one doctor helicopter deployed, and it cannot operate at night, and since it is in charge of all areas of Chungcheongnam-do, there is a limit to rapid transport in the event of a large number of patients. Therefore, we would like to review the necessity of "Chungnam-type Doctor UAM Development" to compensate for the problems of the urban aviation mobility (UAM) industry and the emergency patient transport system in islands, a field of the 4th industry.

  • The History and Culture Park and the Lee Kun-hee Donation Hall will be built in Songhyeon-dong, Seoul. Political games from the Joseon Dynasty to the present greatly influenced the historicity of Songhyeon-dong. However, place analysis was limited to changes in landowners and land uses rather than a historical context. Therefore, this study analyzed the context in which the placeness of Songhyeon-dong changed according to the emergence of cultural hegemony using the perspective of modern cultural geography and comparative history. As a result of the analysis, cultural hegemony in historical transitions, such as Sinocentrism, maritime expansion, civil revolutions, imperialism, nationalism, popular art, and neoliberalism, was found to have created new intellectuals in Bukchon, including Songhyeon-dong, and influenced social systems and spatial policies. In this social relations, the placeness of Songhyeon-dong changed as follows. First, the founding forces of Joseon created pine forests as Bibo Forests to invocate the permanence of the dynasty. In the late Joseon dynasty, it was an era of maritime expansion, and as Joseon's yeonhaeng increased, a garden for the Gyeonghwasejok, who enjoyed the culture of the Qing dynasty, was built. Although pine forests and gardens disappeared due to the development of housing complexes as the population soared during the Japanese colonial era, Cha Gyeong's landscape aesthetics, which harmonized artificial gardens and external nature, are worth reinterpreting in modern times. Second, the wave of modernization created a new school in Bukchon and a boarding house in Songhyeon-dong owned by a pro-Japanese faction. Angukdongcheon-gil, next to Songhyeon-dong, was where thinkers who promoted civil revolution and national self-determination exchanged ideas. Songhyeon-dong, the largest boarding house, served as a residence for students to participate in the March 1st Movement and was the cradle of the resulting culture of student movements. The appearance of the old road is preserved, so it is a significant part of the regeneration of walking in the historic city center, connecting Gwanghwamun-Bukchon-Insadong -Donhwamunro. Third, from the cultural rule of the Government General of Joseon to the Military Government, Songhyeon-dong acted as a passage to western culture with the Joseon Siksan Bank's cultural housing and staff accommodations at the U.S. Embassy. Ancient and contemporary art coexisted in the surrounding area, so the modern and contemporary art market was formed. The Lee Kun-hee Donation Hall is expected to form a cultural belt for citizens with the gallery, Bukchon Hanok Village, the Craft Museum, and the Modern Museum of Art. Discourses and challenges are needed to recreate the place in harmony with the forests, gardens, the street of citizens' birth, history and culture park, the art museum, and the surrounding walking network.

  • This study was conducted to examine the effects of constructing streetside urban forests on particulate matter (PM) content in pedestrian paths and open spaces created between the main streets and buildings in a high-rise, high-density urban area. The study site is a 70m-wide open space between Busan City Hall and Jungang-street in Busan, Korea. The results showed that the density of PM differences between the open space and the adjacent main street were small in regions without linear trees and shrub rows during both the weekdays and weekend. On the other hand, the areas with linear trees and shrub rows were found to have significantly higher concentrations of PM compared to the roadway. In particular, sections with linear trees and shrub rows had higher PM levels both on roads and in adjacent open space, indicating that the composition of linear trees and shrub rows increased the concentration of PM in the off-street open space in areas with wide space between the roadway and building. The impact was more significant in the open space than the roadway. This phenomenon can be explained by the fact that PM generated by vehicles flows through the roadside shrubs by rapid wind flow but does not disperse widely in the pedestrian paths where the wind flow was reduced. In this study, we found that the roadside tree and shrub walls slowed the flow of wind, causing vehicle-emitted PM to accumulate if a wide open space was created between the road and building, resulting in higher concentration of PM in the open space. We confirmed that the distance between the road and building was a critical factor for constructing linear trees and shrub rows to reduce PM generated by vehicle traffic.

  • There were many ground excavation projects from past to present to make effective use of the limited land. And it is very important to predict the ground behavior depending on construction stage for ground excavation. Excavation of the ground involves changes in the stress and displacement of the ground around the excavated surface. Thus it affects the stability of the adjacent structure as well as the excavated surface. Therefore, it is very important to predict the ground behavior and stability of adjacent structure. And nowadays, numerical analysis methods are most often used to predict the effects of ground excavation. Recent, improvements of numerical analysis programs, along with improved computer performance, have helped solve complicated ground problems. However, except some specialized numerical analysis, most numerical analysis often predicts larger excavation floor displacement than field data due to adopt the Mohr-Coulomb analysis model. As a result, it raise the problem that increasing the amount of support on ground and structure. In this study, ground behavior analysis depending on analysis model (Mohr-Coulomb, Duncan-Chang, Modified Mohr-Coulomb and Hardening Soil model) has been carried out through the numerical analysis. When numerical analysis is carried out, this study is expected to be used as a basic data for adopting a suitable analysis model in various ground excavation project.

  • The 2002 World Cup cheering in front of Seoul City Hall and Seoul Plaza design competition provided an opportunity for the discussion of a variety of discourses regarding our plaza culture. The Gwanghwamun Plaza constructed in 2009 also generated discussions for questions on the function of our plaza as a symbolic, humanistic and utilized place. The questions on whether we have created a plaza culture or what should be done for the design of our plaza are still being explored. The reason is that our plazas were constructed without social consensus regarding identity of our plaza while we are influenced by western plaza ideas. The principle of our plaza culture and shape is not yet discussed and determined. The emergence of discussion sparked by the Gwanghwamun Plaza and the Seoul Plaza can be seen as a positive phenomenon. If we can continue to build creative discourse, we will be able to establish our plaza cultures soon. In this context, the Ansan Gwangduk-ro theme plaza design can be a significant material to be discussed. The design competition for the plaza was held in 2009 and it is followed by the construction of the plaza in late 2010. Considering cultural and spatial issues on our plaza in mind, the project will be explained and the identity of the contemporary design will also be explored.

  • There are increasing needs to provide sufficient information on road directions through road signs for expanding cities and traffic networks. Improving efficiency of direction guidance information from road signs not only requires criteria for but also systematic approach to selecting place names that appear on road signs. As such, this paper looks at road direction information from existing road signs that leads to Suwon and investigates whether the current system of road signs provides efficient, systematic and continuous direction information for road users to easily reach their destination. In this paper, Suwon's city hall is set up as the final destination, which is linked from five other cities, Anyang, Osan, Ansan, Yongin and Seongnam. The paper attempts to find out whether there is continuity and suitable number of road signs for direction information by analyzing the road signs between these 5 cities and Suwon with respect to direction, direction advance notice and direction guidance. It is found that drivers cannot easily find the needed information on their destination from the existing road signs and that continuity of selected place names that systematically appear on road signs is insufficiency. In addition, direction guidance on road signs is problematic, because the appearance frequency of road signs is not adequate and the continuity of road signs is not effective. Moreover, there is insufficient information on local direction guidance for immediate destinations on road signs with respect to turning left or right or going straight.
