  • The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine was developed to provide immunity against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which was first reported in 2019. The vaccine has proven to be effective in reducing severity and mortality and preventing infection. Henoch-Schönlein purpura is an autoimmune vasculitis (immunoglobulin A vasculitis). Historically, vaccines have been administered primarily to children, and Henoch-Schönlein purpura has often been reported in children following vaccination. However, since the start of COVID-19 vaccination, an increasing number of cases have been reported in adults. Here, we report a case of a patient who developed hematuria and proteinuria after receiving the messenger RNA COVID-19 vaccine. A 22-year-old man presented to the hospital with a lower extremity rash, bilateral ankle pain, and abdominal pain 18 days after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. The man had no significant medical history and was not taking any medications. Laboratory tests showed normal platelet counts but elevated white blood cell counts and C-reactive protein and fibrinogen levels. He was treated with the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, pheniramine and prednisolone. At 40 days after starting treatment, C-reactive protein levels were within normal limits, and no hematuria was observed. Treatment was terminated when the purpura disappeared. This report is intended to highlight the need for further research to be proactive and carefully monitor for conditions associated with the COVID-19 vaccine.

  • This study aims to analyze cold air characteristics in the watershed areas and to suggest strategies for utilizing them in urban ventilation corridor plans. For this purpose, the Jungnangcheon watershed and Uijeongbu-si in the northern part of Gyeonggi province, and Anyangcheon watershed as well as Yangjaecheon Tancheon watershed and Gwacheon-si in the southern part were selected as study areas. We used KALM (Kaltluftabflussmodell), a cold air simulation model developed in Germany and identified both the cold air flow and the height of cold air layer generated during 6 hours at night. Uijeongbu City is located on the main stream of the Jungnangcheon watershed, and the local cold air from the southern outskirts is an important part of Uijeongbu-si's overall ventilation corridor planning. In addition, the cold air generated in the vicinity of Mt. Sapae flows into the central business district near the city hall and plays a major role in regulating the thermal environment of the city. But, the cold air flows in the eastern part of Uijeongbu-si was not smoothly. The cold air flow generated in the east of Gwanak Mountain and in the west of Cheonggye Mountain was the most active in the northern part of Gwacheon-si. This flow is also a major ventilation corridor in Anyangcheon watershed as well as Yangjaecheon Tancheon watershed. But, the southern part where the cold air flow is not smooth is planed to be developed as 'Gwacheon Knowledge Information Town Public Housing District', so rapid development is expected in the future. Hence, it is suggested that an additional ventilation corridor plan should be established based on the detailed local wind flow analysis.

  • Since the enactment of "Mobility Promotion Law for Transportation Vulnerable", each municipality has been various efforts to improve the transportation vulnerable's the right of movement. However, the effectiveness of mobility promotion policy for the transportation vulnerable is awfully inadequate because circumstances which associated with operation of transportation of the handicapped such as local conditions and transport characteristics have not been considered. Thus, in this study investigated traffic characteristics of the transportation vulnerable through the data of regional slope, non-step buses and handicap vehicles operating conditions and so on in Busan Metropolitan. Also, we proposed to introduction of the 'mobility index' which is based on local condition analysis of Busan. And we suggested that how to improve the convenience of transportation vulnerable's movement.

  • Objectives: We investigated the associations of sarcopenia-defined both in terms of muscle mass and muscle strength-and sarcopenic obesity with metabolic syndrome. Methods: Secondary data pertaining to 309 subjects (85 men and 224 women) were collected from participants in exercise programs at a health center in a suburban area. Muscle mass was measured using bioelectrical impedance analysis, and muscle strength was measured via handgrip strength. Sarcopenia based on muscle mass alone was defined as a weight-adjusted skeletal muscle mass index more than two standard deviations below the mean of a sex-specific young reference group (class II sarcopenia). Two cut-off values for low handgrip strength were used: the first criteria were <26 kg for men and <18 kg for women, and the second criteria were the lowest quintile of handgrip strength among the study subjects. Sarcopenic obesity was defined as the combination of class II sarcopenia and being in the two highest quintiles of total body fat percentage among the subjects. The associations of sarcopenia and sarcopenic obesity with metabolic syndrome were evaluated using logistic regression models. Results: The age-adjusted risk ratios (RRs) of metabolic syndrome being compared in people with or without sarcopenia defined in terms of muscle mass were 1.25 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.06 to 1.47, p=0.008) in men and 1.12 (95% CI, 1.06 to 1.19, p<0.001) in women, which were found to be statistically significant relationships. The RRs of metabolic syndrome being compared in people with or without sarcopenic obesity were 1.31 in men (95% CI, 1.10 to 1.56, p=0.003) and 1.17 in women (95% CI, 1.10 to 1.25, p<0.001), which were likewise found to be statistically significant relationships. Conclusions: The associations of sarcopenia defined in terms of muscle mass and sarcopenic obesity with metabolic syndrome were statistically significant in both men and women. Therefore, sarcopenia and sarcopenic obesity must be considered as part of the community-based management of non-communicable diseases.

  • Accoring to the worldwide interest to control CO$_2$ which contributes to global warming 50%, new techniques to reduce CO$_2$ are under development. Therefore, this study investigated that CO$_2$ absorption/regeneration of Sodium-based dry sorbent and the effect of SO$_2$ concentration in the fixed bed reactor. The dry sorbents were prepared in the condition of different PVA contents and calcination temperatures. As the results of this study, BET surface area showed 832.79 m$^2$/g and SEM result showed possibility as dry sorbent due to having of much micropore distribution. Also, the fixed bed reactor showed decreased CO$_2$ absorption capacity with SO$_2$ injection, because of the generation of $Na_2SO_3$ and $Na_2SO_4$.

  • As time passes, bridge structures require extension work on bridge in use from various effects such as social economical, or traffic environment change. When the concrete is poured at the connection of extension work initial curing concrete is influenced by vibration of vehicles that are passing through the old bridge superstructure. Concrete at early curing stage in construction site should be properly protected, enough to have established sufficient integrity to withstand outside vibration, impact etc. Currently there is no standard specification or regulation in our country. In this paper, experimental variables were divided by vibration velocity and time of loading, and concrete compressive strength and bond strength were measured.

  • Recently, as the development of water front and natural type river is gradually increasing, it is mostly the case in that the flow analysis is implemented by only the flood level of the starting point without the tidal effect when the flood water level of the starting point is highly estimated than the high tidal water level in the design of river adjacent to an estuary. This research has analyzed the variation of tidal current for Oncheon river in Busan using Delft-3D program, considering that the tidal effect can cause the change of the flood water level of the starting point although the flood water level is higher than the flood tide level. As a result, considering the tidal effect at downstream boundary condition, water level indicates a periodicity of tide in particular region and the fluctuation range of water level is extended to upstream.
