  • This paper represents that auto tunings of membership functions and weights in the fuzzy neural networks are effectively performed by immune algorithm. A number of hybrid methods in fuzzy-neural networks are considered in the context of tuning of learning method, a general view is provided that they are the special cases of either the membership functions or the gain modification in the neural networks by genetic algorithms. On the other hand, since the immune network system possesses a self organizing and distributed memory, it is thus adaptive to its external environment and allows a PDP (parallel distributed processing) network to complete patterns against the environmental situation. Also, it can provide optimal solution. Simulation results reveal that immune algorithms are effective approaches to search for optimal or near optimal fuzzy rules and weights.

  • Recently, there are many researches to realize context-awareness service that recognizes surrounding environments as context and provide the citizens with pervasive convenience based on ubiquitous computing technology. In the u-City, various sensors collect information as context, and citizens will receive various context-awareness service, making use of their wireless and mobile devices and the infrastructures of the u-City. We designed ontology that is useful to structure information of sensor or device that is linked to networks and use OWL (Web Ontology Language) that can express information of mutual relation and partial situation. And we propose a context-aware reasoning system for personalized u-City services based on collected context information and user's intention.

  • The condition of the vehicular bridge network in New York City, as represented by ratings obtained during biennial inspections is reviewed over a period of three decades. Concurrently, the bridges comprising the network are considered as networks of structural elements whose condition defines the overall bridge condition according to New York State assumptions. A knowledge-based matrix of assessments is used in order to determine each element's vulnerability and impact within the network of an individual structure and the network of City bridges. In both networks expansion deck joints emerge as the weak link. Typical joint failures are illustrated. Bridge management options for maintenance, preservation, rehabilitation and replacement are examined in the context of joint performance.

  • This study has intended to build ecological networks in consideration of life-zones inside Cheongju city through biotope grade, GIS network analysis etc. This study consisted of following three steps. First, we selected core districts and core spot districts using land use patten and biotope grade. The core district included the first grade of biotope and forest land. The core district consisted of two sectors : east axis core, Uam mountain; west axis core, Bumo mountain. The core spot district included the first grade of biotope. The core spot districts consisted of two sectors : north axis base core, Myongshim park; south axis base core, Guryong park. Second, the base district included the second grade of biotope and park and school. We used buffering analysis within 500m of the base district and selected the new base district. Third, we connected core districts and base core districts using least cost analysis of GIS. Thus we built comprehensive ecological networks in consideration of life-zones through GIS.

  • The deviation of measured pressures in pipeline networks from normal or reference pressures is useful information for judging the operation of the pipeline networks. A cost-effective monitoring of pipeline networks including a leak detection capability can be realized when transient pressure variation is accurately predicted using measured conditions at supply- and demand-sides of the networks. In this study, a pipeline network analysis program was developed based on one-dimensional flow equations for compressible fluids. The validity of the present analysis was demonstrated by simulating the flow in a straight pipeline and comparing the results with the previously reported ones. Pressure and flow rate transients in several simple city-gas pipeline networks were also analyzed to show the usefulness of the developed program.

  • Due to its high theoretical capacity, Silicon (Si) has shown great potential as an anode material for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). However, the large volume change of Si during cycling leads to poor cycling stability and low Coulombic efficiency. In this study, we synthesized Si/Carbon C45:Graphene composites using a ball-milling method with a fixed Si content (20%) and investigated the influence of the C45/Gr ratio on the electrochemical performance of the composites. The results showed that carbon C45 networks can provide good conductivity, but tend to break at Si locations, resulting in poor conductivity. However, the addition of graphene helps to reconnect the broken C45 networks, improving the conductivity of the composite. Moreover, the C45 can also act as a protective coating around Si particles, reducing the volume expansion of Si during charging/discharging cycles. The Si/C45:Gr (70:10 wt%) composite exhibits improved electrochemical performance with high capacity (~1660 mAh g-1 at 0.1 C) and cycling stability (~1370 mAh g-1 after 100 cycles). This work highlights the effective role of carbon C45 and graphene in Si/C composites for enhancing the performance of Si-based anode materials for LIBs.

  • International marriage is composed over 10% among total marriage in Korea. This study tried to know what kinds of social networks, especially transnational networks, the immigrant wives use for the process of being married and for the adjusting to marriage and Korean culture, and how their Korean families also are affected by the transnational networks. For the purposes of this study FGI and the interviews were applied for the immigrant wives, the multicultural husbands and the specialist groups in metropolitan city DaeGu. 18 migrant interviewees from Vietnam, China, Philippine, etc. were collected by the snow-ball sampling. 5 husbands were collected from the self-help meeting in multicultural families support center. The transnational networks of the immigrant wives in DaeGu were deterritorialized and reterritorialized actively. Migrant wives managed the close relationship with their family members of motherland, and had the networks sticky with relatives, friends, and other fore-immigrant wives from the same countries. Their migrations are characterized as 'chain migration'. Even though they acquired the Korean nationality, they have the transnational identities. They and their Korean families are interrelated and internetworked in exchanging economic resources as goods and money, human beings, love, child caring, foods and culture over local boundaries.

  • This paper introduces a new model for forecasting groundwater level on the basis of analysing defect of finite element method. The new model is built with fuzzy sets and neural networks. It is convenient for use. We computed the groundwater level of one city in P. R. China with it and got a very satisfactory result. It can be popularized to corecast groundwater level of mine.

  • In this article, a new remote sensing image fusion model based on modified Kohonen networks is given. And a new fusion rule based on modified voting rule was established. Select Shaoxing City as the study site, located at Zhejiang Province, P.R.China. The fusion experiment between Landsat TM data (30m) and IRS-C Pan data (5.8m) was performed using the given fusion method. The fusion results show that the new method can gain better result in apply ing to the lower hill area, and the whole classification accuracy was 10% higher than the basic Kohonen method. The confusion between the woodlands and the waterbodies was also diminished.

  • In this paper, a neural networks-based damage detection method using the modal properties is presented, which can effectively reduce the effect of the modeling errors in the baseline finite element model from which the training patterns for the networks are to be generated. The differences or the ratios of the mode shape components between before and after damage are used as the input to the neural networks in this method, since they are found to be less sensitive to the modeling errors than the mode shapes themselves. Results of laboratory test on a simply supported bridge model and field test on a bridge with multiple girders confirm the applicability of the present method.
