  • The current representative temperature selection method with five cities cannot reflect the sufficient regional climate characteristics. In this paper, the new representative temperature selection method is proposed with the consideration of eight representative cities. The proposed method considered the recent trend of power sales, the climate characteristics and population distribution to improve the accuracy of short-term load forecasting. Case study results for the accuracy of short-term load forecasting are compared for the traditional temperature weights of five cities and the proposed temperature weights of eight cities. The simulation results show that the proposed method provides more accurate results than the traditional method.

  • 지방자체단체들은 지역의 아이덴티티를 제고하고 지역민의 관심과 적극적인 참여유도를 위해 CIP를 도입하고 있다. 그러나 많은 지자체에서 의도한 목적을 달성하지 못하고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 동해안 관광도시들이 가지고 있는 각종 CI에 관한 캐릭터, 심벌, 슬로건 등을 비교하여 관광도시 이미지와의 적합성을 평가하고자 한다.

PCR-based Prevalence of Feline Vector-borne Pathogens in Yangju and Gwacheon Cities, South Korea

  • The objective of this polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based research was to determine the prevalence of vector-borne pathogens in stray cats in Yangju and Gwacheon cities, South Korea. Total 50 stray cats were sampled for this PCR-based survey; 33 samples and 17 samples were collected from Yangju and Gwacheon cities, respectively. Total positive presence rates were 6%, 6% and 24% for hemotropic mycoplasmas, Rickettsia spp. and Babesia spp., respectively in this study. Babesia spp. was the predominant pathogen present in the stray cats of both cities followed by hemotropic mycoplasmas and Rickettsia spp. It is recommended that a large-scale study of the prevalence of infectious agents among stray cats should be undertaken in all regions of South Korea.

Women's Street Fashion in World Fashion-Leading Cities (Classification and Style Analysis)

  • Recently, street fashion has been regularly introduced in many fashion media because both consumers and marketers began to recognize the importance of street fashion as a meaningful and objective fashion information source. As the globalization proceeds in fashion field,' the street fashion informations in major cities which has led world fashion trends become more influential on domestic fashion, but little concern has been paid on it. This study classified women's street fashion in 4 major world fashion cities such as Paris, London, New York, Tokyo and identified style characteristics of each group. For data collection, 795 front-view photos were selected from the two fashion trade publication 'STREET' and 'VIEW' which has introduced street fashion photos in those cities from 1996. Classification process went on three stages: sorting, naming and grouping. 49 undergraduate students were divided into 12 teams and about 80 photos were given to each team to sort into several sub-groups by overall images or common style characteristics. Then each sub-group was named according to common images or characteristics. Final groups came out after grouping each sub-group with a similar or same title together. For each group, common style characteristics were analyzed.

주요 5개 도시의 실내외 라돈농도 조사연구 (A Survey of Indoor and Outdoor Radon Concentrations in Five Major Cities)

  • This outline survey of indoor and outdoor radon concentrations in five major cities in Korea was carried out with Electrostatic Integrating Radon Monitor(EIRM) from February to December, 1996 and January to december, 1998. The mean indoor and outdoor radon concentrations in five major cities in 1996 were $21.9{\;}Bq/\textrm{m}^3$ and $9.6{\;}Bq/\textrm{m}^3$, respectively. The mean indoor and outdoor radon concentrations in 1998 were $20.8{\;}Bq/\textrm{m}^3$ and $9.0{\;}Bq/\textrm{m}^3$, respectively. These were below the U.S.EPA radon action level. The range of indoor to outdoor radon concentrations were $0.8{\;}Bq/\textrm{m}^3{\;}~{\;}45.6{\;}Bq/\textrm{m}^3$ in 1996, $0.5{\;}Bq/\textrm{m}^3{\;}~{\;}15.2{\;}Bq/\textrm{m}^3$ in 1998, respectively. The result of our analysis showed that radon concentrations in indoor air were clearly higher than those in outdoor air. Inspection of seasonal distribute pattern indicates the enhancement during winter relative to summer.

태양광에너지 측정을 통한 우리나라 주요 도시의 Global Dimming 현상 분석에 관한 연구 (대기의 청명도 분석을 중심으로) (A Study on the Analysis of Global Dimming Appearances Using the Solar Radiation Measurement in Korean Major Cities (Focused on Atmospheric Clearness Analysis))

  • Since the atmospheric clearness index is main factor for evaluating global-dimming of atmosphere environment, it is necessary to estimate its characteristics all over the major cities in Korea. We have begun collecting clearness index data since 1982 at 16 different cities and considerable effort has been made for constructing a standard value from measured data at each city. The new clearness data for global-dimming analysis will be extensively used by evaluating atmospheric environment as well as by solar PV application system designer or users. From the results, we can conclude that 1) Yearly mean 61.9% of the atmospheric clearness index was evaluated for clear day all over 2) A significant difference of atmospheric clearness index is observed between 1982-1989 and 1990-1997, 1998-2005 through 16 different cities in Korea.

국내 15개 주요지역의 난방도일 재산정에 관한 연구 (Study on the Revision of HDD for 15 Main Cities of Korea)

  • The purpose of this study is to revise the HDD(Heating Degree-Days) of main cities of Korea because the outside temperature rise have been accelerated by global warming recently. Now our HDD(Heating Degree-Days) for the utility design of district heating system had been `established in 20 years ago. Therefore new heating degree days for main cities of korea had been required and determined using long-term measured outside weather temperature data during 30 years. For the analysis of HDD, five different base temperatures ranging from 24 to $16^{\circ}C$ were chosen in the calculation of heating degree days. And new yearly heating degree days of 15 cities of korea were given in the tabular form.

대도시 급배수관망의 수압변화 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Hydraulic Pressure Change Characteristics of Water Distribution Networks in Large Cities)

  • In this study, I suggest an effective operation of waterwork facilities in large cities and a scientific method for utilizing water in water distribution systems. To achieve this goal, my simulation were carried out on data from Kwangju City using Pipenet '98, a pipe-network program. From this simulation, I examine the possibilities of application the system in large cities, comparing data measured at 33 hydraulic pressure monitoring places from waterwork enterprises. The result is coincident with that of waterwork enterprises, with about a 12.5% average error rate and $0.32kg/cm^2$ average deviation. The method and program I use here can be helpful in cities where there is a need to extend the waterwork facilities, or where there is a need to suspend the water supply, and/or there is an accident. The simulation shows how to expand waterwork facilities effectively, how to prevent accidents, and how to estimate the hydraulic pressure even in the areas without monitoring places.

Smart City Policies Revisited: Considerations for a Truly Smart and Sustainable Urbanism Practice

  • The notion of smart cities, presently, is a highly popular topic in urban policy circles. This concept is adopted by many cities across the world-with an aim of increasing urban smartness in various ways and areas. Productivity, innovation, liveability, wellbeing, accessibility, sustainability, governance, planning, and citizen participation are among these areas. Despite good policy intentions, smart city initiatives in practice had only limited impact in delivering the desired urban outcomes. This paper aims to investigate the smart city phenomenon and its planning practice approaches from an evolutionary perspective. The study places smart city plans and strategies of a number of cities across the globe under the microscope. The findings reveal that current smart city efforts are not adequate to combat the challenges of the Anthropocene epoch-that is already upon us. This paper concludes with a consolidated definition of smart and sustainable cities and considerations for moving towards Post-Anthropocentric urbanism-that is truly smart and sustainable urbanism-to avoid an imminent urban ecocide.
