An Indoor Pose Estimation System Based on Recognition of Circular Ring Patterns (원형 링 패턴 인식에 기반한 실내용 자세추정 시스템)

  • This paper proposes a 3-D pose (positions and orientations) estimation system based on the recognition of circular ring patterns. To deal with monocular vision-based pose estimation problem, we specially design a circular ring pattern that has a simplicity merit in view of object recognition. A pose estimation procedure is described in detail, which utilizes the geometric transformation of a circular ring pattern in 2-D perspective projection space. The proposed method is evaluated through the analysis of accuracy and precision with respect to 3-D pose estimation of a quadrotor-type vehicle in 3-D space.

  • In this paper, we report the numerical and experimental solutions of the dynamic characteristics of a vortex ring in a circular cylinder generated by impinging a fluid blob from a hole on the bottom wall of the cylinder. We managed to visualize successfully the flow pattern shown on the vertical and horizontal planes by using a specially designed optical apparatus. Results of three-dimensional computation for the flow are shown to be in a satisfactory agreement with the experimental ones. We also report the experimental results which show a breaking of the axi-symmetric pattern after the vortex touches the free surface.

  • This paper proposes a unidirectional beam antenna using a probe excited circular ring near the reflector. The antenna structure is simple. The radiation characteristics of the antenna fur various spacing between a probe excited circular ring and the reflector are analyzed. These characteristics are also compared with the conventional single aperture near the reflector. It is found that the proposed structure yields better characteristics than the conventional structure. The numerical results of the radiation pattern, elevational beam peak, beamwidth, and maximum directivity are investigated. The result of the analysis is very useful to design the antenna of the high directivity with unidirectional beam.

  • In this paper, we report the numerical and experimental solutions of the axi-symmetric flows in the axial plane driven by an impingement of fluid from the bottom wall of a circular cylinder. We managed to visualize successfully the flow pattern shown on the vertical plane through the container axis. The numerical results are shown to compare well with the experimental results for the case of infinity Rossby number. The satisfactory agreement between the two results was possible when in the numerics the free surface was treated as a solid wall so that a no-slip condition was applied on the surface. The numerical solutions reveal that inertial oscillation plays an important role at small Rossby numbers, or at a larger background rotation.

  • This thesis deals with a novel font-dependent Hangul recognition algorithm invariant to position translation, scaling, and rotation using circular pattern vectors. The proposed algorithm removes noise from input letters using binary morphology and generates the circular pattern vectors. The generated circular pattern vectors represent spatial distributions on several concentric circles from the center of gravity in a given letter. Then the algorithm selects the letter minimizing the distance between the reference vectors and the generated circular pattern vectors. In order to estimate performances of the proposed algorithm, the completed Batang Hangul 2,350 letters were used as test images with scaling and rotational transformations. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm are better than conventional algorithm using the ring projection in the recognition rates of Hangul letters with scaling and rotational transformation.

  • In this paper, a new method to enhance the stop bandwidth of the compact microstrip bandstop filter based on split ring resonator(SRR) was proposed. To achieve wide stop bandwidth, we incorporated the SRR within the circular etched pattern of the defected ground structure(DGS). By incorporating the SRR within the circular etched pattern, a high magnetic coupling between SRR and signal line can be achieved. The high magnetic coupling enables the proposed structure to achieve a wide stop bandwidth. To verify the feasibility of the proposed structure, the proposed bandstop filter was compared with conventional bandstop filter employing SRRs which have been etched at both sides of the signal line. Simulation and experimental results show that the proposed structure provides an enhanced stop bandwidth compared with the conventional structure.

Design and Fabrication of Dual-Ring Monopole Antenna for Wideband Characteristics (광대역 특성을 갖는 이중 원형 링 모노폴 안테나의 설계와 제작)

  • In this paper, a double circular ring monopole antenna for wideband applications is designed and fabricated. The proposed antenna is based on a planar monopole design, and composed of double circular ring of radiating patches and ground plane to obtain the wideband characteristics. To get the optimized parameters, we used the simulator, Ansoft's High Frequency Structure Simulator(HFSS) and found the parameters that effect antenna characteristics. Using the obtained parameters, the proposed antenna is fabricated. The fabricated antenna is measured at the operating frequencies, and the return loss coefficient, gain, and radiation patterns are determined. The results of measurement, -10dB impedance bandwidth, measured return loss is 4,530 MHz(2,510-7,040 MHz) and antenna peak and average gains for the frequencies are obtained 0.71~3.38 dBi, -3.85~0.3 dBi, respectively. In case of radiation patterns, the proposed antenna displays nearly omnidirectional radiation characteristics in the E-plane, and monopole-like radiation pattern characteristics in the H-plane.

Characterization of Microscale Objects based on the Diffraction Pattern Analysis (회절무늬를 이용한 미세물체의 특성 측정)

  • This paper describes the theoretical analysis of a diffraction pattern analyzer for the characterization of microscale object fields and a method for obtaining size and size distribution from the measured diffraction pattern of the object fields. For the experimental verification, a typical optical Fourier transform system was set up and calibrated with 2 5$\mu \textrm m$ and 50$\mu \textrm m$ pinholes. The system responses to distilled water droplets, alcohol, glycerin and silicon oil were imaged with vidicon, and the image was processed to determine the size distribution of each liquid particle field. The energy distribution function which is defined as the total intensity of a circular ring in the diffraction pattern was used to determine the dominant particle size of each liquid particle field.

Planar Array of a Probe Excited Circular Ring Radiating Bidirectional Pattern

  • This paper reports the characteristics of a bidirectional antenna by using a planar array of a probe excited circular ring. The element of a bidirectional antenna is first designed to achieve the maximum directivity. The directivity can be further increased by arranging these elements to form the linear array. There are two types of linear array to be investigated i.e., on axis and off axis arrangement. On-axis linear array yields better directivity than off-axis linear array. Therefore, this orientation is further used to form the planar array. The radiation characteristics of this optimum planar array are rigorously reported. The proposed structure is very useful to extend the distance between the base station in PCT system.
