  • In this paper, the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is adopted to design a modified ring-slot type patch rectenna with a resonance frequency of 2.45GHz. In order to accomplish minimization of dimensions and circular polarization (CP) and harmonic suppression, axial direction slits and side-cuts are added to the patch of the ring. The PSO manipulated this kind of multi-dimensional problem very well, and as a result, the designed rectenna shows a desirable performance of return loss of 21.36dB and axial ratio of 2.92dB at the frequency of 2.45GHz with compact sizing.

  • The conventional geometry of a plate microstrip resonator is made up of a single metallic patch, which is printed on a monolayer dielectric substrate. Its arrangement is simple and easy to make, but it is limited in its functional abilities. Many searches have been realized to improve the bandwidth and the gain of the microstrip resonators. Among the various configurations proposed in the open literature, the stacked geometry seems to be very promising. By appropriate design, it is able to provide the operation in dual frequency mode, wide bandwidth enough and high gain. The theoretical investigations of structures composed of two stacked anti-reflection coatings, enhanced metallic coatings are available in the literature, however, for the stacked configurations involving three metallic coatings or more, not to exact or approximate analysis was conducted due to the complexity of the structure.

  • A 2.4 GHz dual-polarized antenna for a Doppler radar is studied. The proposed dual-polarized antenna using a stacked annular ring patch with two co-centric gap-coupled feed lines and a $90^{\circ}$ hybrid exhibits fairly good performance of 22 dB isolation at a center frequency of 2.4 GHz. Using a $90^{\circ}$ hybrid, a right-handed circular polarization for the transmitter and a left-handed circular polarization for the receiver are implemented. The gain of the designed antenna is about 0 dBi over operating frequencies. The antenna size including a ground plane is only $40{\times}40\;mm^2$.

  • This paper presents a novel ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna that rejects narrow and broad bands and is suitable for wireless communications. The base of the proposed antenna has a circular patch that can cover the UWB frequency range (3.1~10.6 GHz). The interference issues caused by co-existence within the UWB operation frequency are overcome by a design that uses a parallel-coupled asymmetric dual-line with a circular monopole antenna. The proposed antenna showed a stable radiation pattern, realized gain and reflection coefficient lower than -10 dB across the UWB operation bandwidth except for 5.15~5.85 GHz and 7.25~8.4 GHz. The fabrication, simulation, and measurement results obtained for the proposed antenna were in good agreement with the expected values.

  • This paper presents the analysis of the mode characteristics of an annular ring microstrip patch antenna for circular polarization with attachment mode using method of moments in the spectral domain. For a probe excitation, the input impedance are obtained by using the single mode approximation for both the $TM_{11}$ and $TM_{12}$ modes and compared with those by Vector Hankel Transform. While the $TM_{11}$ mode has a high Q, it is a poor radiating mode; the $TM_{12}$ mode is more suitable for antenna applications. It is also shown that the bandwidth of the $TM_{12}$ mode is wider than that of the $TM_{11}$ mode in terms of axial ratio for circular polarizatio

  • The majority of problems to which FDTD is being applied involve open structure which require the appropriate scheme to terminate the computational domain. In particular, for the propagation problem of the outgoing waves, a certain type of boundary condition needs to be applied on outer boundaries of the computational domain to generate no reflected waves. In this paper, a new simple technique is presented, which allows the reduced computation time and excellent absorbing characteristics for normal and oblique incident waves on outer boundaries. To illustrate the validity of this method, a numerical calculation for monopole antenna is carried out and the results are compared to measured data. The time-domain properties for circular patch antennas are investicated.

  • In this paper, we have proposed dual-band Phi-shaped slot gap filler antenna for satellite internet service applications. Some properties of the antenna such as return loss, radiation pattern, and gain have been simulated and measured. The proposed antenna has a Phi-shaped slot on the circular patch and is fabricated on the TLX-9 substrate. The radius of the circular patch is 25 mm, and it has a coaxial feeding structure. The dual-band Phi-shaped slot gap filler antenna has high-gain, small-size, simple-structure, and good radiation patterns at each band. The operating frequency band can be tuned by adjusting the length AL and FL of the Phi-shaped slot.

  • This paper proposed an eccentric annular ring microstrip antenna which has an asymmetric slot and a tuning stub for improving bandwidth and size of the circular microstrip patch antenna. The field characteristics of the eccentric annular ring microstrip antenna have been calculated by using the method of FDTD (finite difference time domain). The calculated results showed good agreement with the measured results. As a result of measurement, the antenna size and the bandwidth has been improved to that of 12.2 % and 4.8 % respectively, comparing to circular microstrip patch antenna.

  • In this paper, a wideband, circularly polarized patch antenna is proposed that leverages the unidirectional resonant modes of a circular patch mounted on top of a grounded dielectric-ferrite substrate. The proposed antenna is fed via the proximity coupling method and several parasitically coupled patches are placed on a dielectric superstrate to enhance the impedance bandwidth of the antenna. The resonant modes of the structure rotate only in the clockwise or counter clockwise directions. In the frequency range where the effective permeability of the ferrite layer is negative, the resonance frequencies of these modes differ significantly, which produces a large axial ratio (AR) bandwidth. For the proposed antenna, the numerical results show the 10 dB impedance bandwidth to be around 44% and the 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth to be higher than 64%.
