가스차단기 최적설계를 위한 $SF_6$ 아크 플라즈마 CAE 해석 (CAE Analysis of $SF_6$ Arc Plasma for a Gas Circuit Breaker Design)

  • The design of industrial arc plasma systems is still largely based on trial and error although the situation is rapidly improving because of the available computational power at a cost which is still fast coming down. The desire to predict the behavior of arc plasma system, thus reducing the development cost, has been the motivation of arc research. To interrupt fault current, the most enormous duty of a circuit breaker, is achieved by separating two contacts in a interruption medium, $SF_{6}$ gas or air etc., and arc plasma is inevitably established between the contacts. The arc must be controlled and interrupted at an appropriate current zero. In order to analyze arc behavior in $SF_{6}$ gas circuit breakers, a numerical calculation method combined with flow field and electromagnetic field has been developed. The method has been applied to model arc generated in the Aachen nozzle and compared the results with the experimental results. Next, we have simulated the unsteady flow characteristics to be induced by arcing of AC cycle, and conformed that the method can predict arc behavior in account of thermal transport to $SF_{6}$ gas around the arc, such as increase of arc voltage near current zero and dependency of arc radius on arc current to maintain constant arc current density.

  • In this study, we build system and techniques of evaluating the interruption performance of the GCB with experimental method. We constructed a simplified synthetic test circuit of which ability is up to 245kV, 50kA BTF test. And We composed a model test circuit breaker with puffer assisted self blasting type GCB. With this circuit breaker, we carried out the experiment of no load and SLF90. During the tests, we measured the several factors such as stroke, pressure, arc temperature, the voltage and current near the current zero and dI/dt, dV/dt. Arc conductivity before 200ns before current zero which is one of the indexes of the thermal recovery of a GCB was measured. With these kinds of measurement, we could estimate the performance of a GCB fundamentally. Futhermore these results were used to adjust the arc modeling with CFD(computational fluid dynamics) and we could increase the plausibility of the analytical method.

  • The recent power system is required to a large size of facilities and high power technology according to increasing power demand. However, it could lead to spoiling the beauty of city and environment problem. The miniaturized facilities with large capacity such as GIS have been required in recent power system. The GIS(Gas Insulated Substation) using the SF6 insulation gas enables to miniaturize facilities with large capacity with high insulation performance. However, the substation installed GIS has required to new design model which is different from the conventional substation. The TRV(Transient Recovery Voltage) analysis on simple circuit may applied by differential equation. However, in case of relatively complicated system, EMTP(Electro Magnetic Transients Program) mainly has been used to design and simulate for transient analysis. This paper mainly design the 22.9 kV GIS system and analyze the transient recovery voltage of main circuit breaker using EMTP/RV. It also enables to easily design the other substation installed GIS with same maker and voltage level because the proposed GIS model consists of separated modules such as busbar, circuit breaker, bushing, CT, PT etc. Eventually, it contributes to comfortably compare the interrupting performance of circuit breaker and system TRV corresponding to the substation system configuration.

Investigation of SLF Interruption Capability of Gas Circuit Breaker with CFD and a Mathematical Arc Model

  • This paper discusses the analysis of arc conductance in a gas circuit breaker (GCB) during current interruption process and the investigation method of the interruption capability. There are some limitations in the application of the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for the implementation of an arc model around the current zero, despite the fact that it gives good results for the high-current phase arc. In this study, we improved the accuracy in the analysis of the interruption performance by attempting the method using CFD and a mathematical arc model. The arc conductance at 200 ns before current zero (G-200ns) is selected as the indicator to predict the current interruption of the Short Line Fault (SLF). Finally, the proposed method is verified by applying to the actual circuit breakers which have different interruption performances.

  • 배선용 차단기(MCCB)는 신속한 고장전류 차단과 전원시스템의 안정성을 확보하기 위해 배전시스템에 폭넓게 사용되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 MCCB의 소호부 형상에 따른 차단성능을 파악하고 이를 통해 성능향상을 꾀하고자 3차원 자계해석을 이용한 차단성능 평가해석기법을 개발하고, 개발한 평가해석기법을 각 모델 차단기에 적용한 바를 기술하였다. 또한, 소호부내 3분할 다단형 아크런너을 구성하여 불연속 통전경로를 형성함으로 해서 차단성능에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 끝으로, 이상의 연구내용을 토대로 새로운 소호부 형상을 고안하여 국내 최초로 460[V]/225[A]/50[kA] 대전력 단락시험에 성공한 결과를 제시하였다.

초전도한류기의 계통도입을 위한 경제적 타당성 검토 (A Economic feasibility of Superconducting Fault Current Limiter in Korean Power System)

  • As power system grows more complex and power demands increase, the fault current tends to gradually increase. In the near future, the fault current will exceed a circuit breaker rating for some substations, which is an especially important issue in the Seoul metropolitan area because of its highly meshed configuration. Currently, the Korean power system is regulated by changing the 154kV system configuration from a loop connection to a radial system, by splitting the bus where load balance can be achieved, and by upgrading the circuit breaker rating. A development project applying 154kV Superconducting Fault Current Limiter(SFCL) to 154kV transmission systems is proceeding with implementation slated for after 2010. In this paper, the expected price of SFCL in order to assure the economic feasibility is evaluated comparing with upgrading cost of ciui.1 breakers. The results show that the SFCL should be developed under seven times of price of circuit breaker to be competitive against upgrading circuit breakers.

  • To prevent such accidents, molded case circuit breakers with improved short-circuit current interrupting capacity are needed. This paper is focused on understanding the interrupting capability with respect to double contact structure and puffer assisted self quenching that are based on the shape of the contact system in the current molded case circuit breaker. The new arc quenching structure for increasing the interrupting capacity of molded case circuit breakers is investigated by simulation and experiment.

  • Recently, the occurrences of electrical fire have been suppressed by an earth leakage breaker(ELB), a no fuse breaker(NFB) and a fuse in case of an earth leakage, a short circuit and an over current. But it is impossible for the ELB to break the circuit in the case of the failure of pressure contacts on connecting points and the momentary short circuit. Therefore, it is require to study the constructive problem of the ELB. In this paper, we have developed the auxiliary control device, electrical fire prevention control device(EFPCD), of the ELB. And we have tested the operation characteristics of the ELB according to the load(R, L) As a result of this experiment, we could prevent the electrical fire due to the spark and the overheat occurring in the failure of pressure contacts on connecting points and the momentary short circuit.

  • In order to newly define and specify the performance and the testing method of the high-voltage circuit breaker, IEC 62271-100 was published in May, 2001 and took place of IEC 60056 which had been used since 1987. This new standard intensifies the requirement and the test method of the circuit breaker and also domestic manufacturer makes progress the new product development. And, KERI also goes on the build-up project of short-circuit testing facilities for fulfilling the testing method requirements in new IEC 62271-100. This paper introduce the limiting method of short-circuit making current by controlling the time constant of dc component.

  • In this paper, a new type of permanent magnetic actuator (PMA) with multi-stage coils is proposed. Although the conventional type of PMA has many advantages, it cannot be applied in the high voltage circuit breakers due to its short stoke length. The new type of PMA has long stroke length by using multi-stage coils, so it can be applied as an actuator for the high voltage circuit breakers. Dynamic characteristics are calculated by the finite element method (FEM), equation of electric circuit and dynamic equation. The position of plunger and the current of coils in case of the actuator applied in 38kV, 40kA vacuum circuit breaker are presented.
