  • A lectin has been purified from the bark of the legume Maackia fauriei. This lectin, MFA, was found to agglutinate human ABO erythrocytes at a titer of 256. The results from electrophoretic analyses, gel-filtration chromatography, and enzyme linked lectinsorbent assay indicate that MFA is an acidic glycoprotein, and exists as a tetramer of 30 kDa subunits that are linked by noncovalent bonds. The activity of MFA is critically dependent upon CaC1$_2$. MFA demonstrated high homogeneity with the lectins from M. amurensis, which is the only legume source of lectins that bind to sialoglycoconjugate, in its N-terminal amino acid sequence and amino acid composition, (omitted)

  • It is well known that flavonoids are the inhibitory effects on inflammations. This study was designed to determine the anti-inflammatory effects of luteolin-7-O-${\beta}$D-glucuronopyranoside (LGC). newly synthesized flavonoids. which was extracted from Salix gilgiana leaves. We investigated the protective action of LGC on reflux esophagitis and gastritis in rats. Esophagitis and gastritis were induced by surgical procedures and the exposure to indomethacin (50 mg/kg), respectively. LGC was injected intraduodenally immediately after the surgical procedures and the exposure to indomethacin (omitted)

  • When fire occurs in complex or building, toxic gas is important factor for evacuation because it cause death of evacuees. The effect of toxic gas which effects human motion is calculated using Purser's Fractional Effective Dose(FED). The FDS_EVAC is used for evacuation. However, FED of FDS_EVAC has some problem of application because it dose not considers evacuees's gender and age groups but using single subject. In this study, numerical analysis using modified FED which considers gender and age group of evacuees was performed. We investigate the effect of improved FED on the evacuation. We applied evacuation analysis to exhibition centre where the evacuees was set one thousand five hundred people. The FED is increasing with children 2%, male 17%, female 4%, adult 13% and elderly people 22%. Fatality is increasing due to increased FED.

  • In a permanent magnet motor, cogging torque arises from the intersection of the rotor magnets with the steel teeth on the stator. This paper describes design measures which can be taken to reduce the cogging torque. In this paper for the optimal shape design of brushless DC motor, evolution strategy is investigated to find the dimension of stator of BLDC motor that minimizes the cogging torque. The corresponding field analysis is performed by two-dimensional finite element method.
