  • Objectives The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of chuna manual therapy for rhinitis. Methods We performed a literature search using ten electronic databases (PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Chinese Academic Journals(CAJ), Research Information Sharing Service(RISS), Dbpia, National Digital Science Library(NDSL), Koreanstudies Information Service System(KISS), Korean Medical database(KMbase), and Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System(OASIS)) and two academic journals up to the end of April 2021. We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) which appraised the effect of chuna manual therapy (CMT) in the treatment of rhinitis. The risk of bias was evaluated from the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool. Results 4 appropriate RCTs were included and analyzed. The efficacy rate of the CMT group was statistically higher compared to the control group treated with medicine[RR 1.14 (95%CI 1.06 1.22), P<0.01]. Conclusions Based on results, CMT could be effective in rhinitis. However, evidence were limited due to small number of studies, lack of well-designed RCT and regional bias. Further well-designed research should be required to obtain stronger evidence.

  • Objectives This study aimed to evaluate the effect of chuna manual therapy (CMT) for postpartum low back pain using a systematic review. Methods We performed a literature search using 12 electronic databases up to the end of September 2021. We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that evaluated the effect of CMT in the treatment of postpartum low back pain. The risk of bias was evaluated using the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool. Results Four randomized controlled trials were reported statistically significant effect in pain VAS, ODI and JOA of chuna manual therapy compared with moxibution, electro acupuncture, hyperthermia or usual care. As a result of assessing the risk of bias tool, most of the contents of the evaluation items were not identified, so it was evaluated as an uncertain risk. Conclusions CMT may be effective in treating postpartum low back pain. However, evidence was limited due to the small sample size, lack of well-designed RCTs and regional bias. Further well-designed studies are required to obtain stronger evidence.

  • Objectives This study aimed to investigate the clinical trial trends of Chuna manual therapy (CMT) on gynecologic disease and suggest the effectiveness and safety evidence for further study. Methods We searched nine electronic databases (CENTRAL, CiNii, CNKI, EMBASE, KMbase, KISS, MEDLINE PubMed, NDSL, and OASIS) using the search terms "Chuna" and "Tuina" and identified relevant literature that investigated the CMT as an intervention for gynecologic disease. All relevant papers were extracted and selected to be analyzed. Results Among the 1456 studies that were searched and screened, 18 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) satisfied the designated criteria. A meta-analysis showed that CMT had a curative effect on patients with primary dysmenorrhea, postpartum hypogalactia, breast hyperplasia, postpartum urinary retention, and pelvic pain. Conclusions Based on this study, CMT should be comprehensively considered for gynecologic disease. The treatment response was significantly enhanced after treatment; however, there were some limitations in the study. More well-designed RCTs are needed to ensure that all gynecologic patients have a safe and effective therapy.

  • Objectives : This study was conducted to investigate current research trends in Chuna manual therapy for the treatment of anxiety disorders in China. Methods : Using China Academic Journal and Pubmed, we performed a literature search of studies that were published from 2010 onwards. In total, 15 published studies were included in our analysis. Results : Of the 15 analyzed studies, nine were randomized controlled trials, two were non-randomized controlled trials, and four were case reports. Of the total patients, 80% were treated daily and received ${\leq}30$ treatments in total (excluding one study). In most studies(11 out of 15, 73.33%), the total effective rate of treatment was used to measure the outcome, with the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale being used most frequently. The case report demonstrated a therapeutic effect > 90%. In the control study, except for the two studies that reported significant improvement in the follow-up period, all of the measures were significantly improved (P<0.05) after treatment compared with before treatment. The An(按) and Rou(?) methods were the most frequently used. The Chuna method is categorized into four types: 1) It is performed around shoulders, neck, and face; 2) performed around abdomen, back, and neck; 3) performed on the whole body; 4) performed at the simply-stimulated acupoints. The most commonly used acupoint was Taiyang (Ex-HN 5), and the most frequently used acupoints were predominantly distributed in the head, face, and neck. Conclusions : This study demonstrated that Chuna manual therapy has significant effects when used as a treatment for anxiety disorder, warranting further investigation.

  • Objectives The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of Chuna manual therapy (CMT) in the treatment of simple obesity. Methods We used seven databases to perform a literature search using the keywords "Chuna OR Tuina" AND "Obesity." We selected randomized clinical trials in which Chuna was used as the main method for treating simple obesity. The risk of bias was assessed by three independent researchers using the Cochrane risk of bias. Results A total of 14 RCTs were selected and analyzed. The results of the meta-analysis showed a significantly higher efficacy rate in the patient group treated with CMT as the main treatment than that in the control group. Conclusions The results of this systematic review suggest that CMT is effective in the treatment of simple obesity. However, given the limitations such as the small number of studies and the high risk of bias in the studies, additional research is needed to lend further support to this claim.

  • Objectives This systematic review aimed to provide evidence for the effectiveness and safety of Chuna manual therapy (CMT) for carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). Methods We searched 12 electronic databases (PubMed, Ovid-MEDLINE, EMBASE, The Cochrane Library, CNKI, CiNii, ScienceON, KMbase, KISS, OASIS, KMTANK, and RISS) up to the end of October 2021. We only included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating CMT for the treatment of CTS. The methodological quality of the included RCTs was evaluated using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool 1.0. Results Six RCTs were eligible for inclusion in our study. A meta-analysis of four studies demonstrated positive results for the use of CMT when used in conjunction with Korean medicine treatment compared to those for Western conservative treatment for CTS. Conjunction treatment significantly improved the total efficacy rate compared to conservative treatment alone (P=0.0007, n=4). Conclusions There is reliable evidence for the use of CMT in treating CTS based on a published meta-analysis. To measure only the effect of Chuna, an experimental group should be designed with Chuna alone to evaluate its effectiveness. However, it should be noted that the studies included in this systematic review were heterogeneous and of low quality, thus warranting further investigation using well-designed RCTs.
