  • Purpose: Knowledge, clinical reasoning, and self-confidence are the basis for undergraduate education, and determine students' level of competence. The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of the addition of a one-time simulation experience to the didactic curriculum on nursing students' knowledge acquisition, clinical reasoning skill, and self-confidence. Methods: Using a quasi-experimental crossover design consisted of intervention and wait-list control groups. Participants were non-randomly assigned to the first intervention group (Group A, n=48) or the wait-list control group (Group B, n=46). Knowledge level was assessed through a multiple choice written test, and clinical reasoning skill was measured using a nursing process model-based rubric. Self-confidence was measured using a self-reported questionnaire. Results: Results indicated that students in the simulation group scored significantly higher on clinical reasoning skill and related knowledge than those in the didactic lecture group; no difference was found for self-confidence. Conclusion: Findings suggest that undergraduate nursing education requires a simulation-based curriculum for clinical reasoning development and knowledge acquisition.

  • The small PWR has been paid more and more attention due to its diversity of application and flexibility in the site selection. However, the large core power density, the small containment space and the rapid accident progress characteristics make it difficult to control the containment pressure like the traditional PWR during the LOCA. The pressure suppression system has been used by the BWR since the early design, which is a suitable technique that can be applied to the small PWR. Since the configuration and operating conditions are different from the BWR, the pressure suppression system should be redesigned for the small PWR. Conducting the experiments on the scale down test facility is a good choice to reproduce the prototypical phenomena in the test facility, which is both economical and reasonable. A systematic scaling method referring to the H2TS method was proposed to determine the geometrical and thermohydraulic parameters of the pressure suppression containment response test facility for the small PWR conceptual design. The containment and the pressure suppression system related thermohydraulic phenomena were analyzed with top-down and bottom-up scaling methods. A set of the scaling criteria were obtained, through which the main parameters of the test facility can be determined.

  • Since traditional derivative-based optimization for noisy simulation shows bad performance, evolutionary algorithms are considered as substitutes. Especially in case when outputs are binary, more simulation trials are needed to get near-optimal solution since the outputs are discrete and have high and heterogeneous variance. In this paper, we propose a genetic algorithm called SARAGA which adopts dynamic resampling and fitness approximation using surrogate. SARAGA reduces unnecessary numbers of expensive simulations to estimate success probabilities estimated from binary simulation outputs. SARAGA allocates number of samples to each solution dynamically and sometimes approximates the fitness without additional expensive experiments. Experimental results show that this novel approach is effective and proper hyper parameter choice of surrogate and resampling can improve the performance of algorithm.

  • This study is a pilot study to confirm the effectiveness of training after applying emergency simulation training for inactive nurses and to present a new model of simulation training operation method. In this study, the control group is a group that directly participates in the simulation activity, and the experimental group is the group that observes the control group's simulation activity. Experimental group and control group were matched 1:1 to experience all the roles of the resuscitation team. The study participants were 5 inactive nurses in the experimental group and 5 inactive nurses in the control group, and the total training time was 5 hours. The emergency simulation operation composition consists of theory education, skill education, and simulation. The interview was conducted. The educational satisfaction of the participants was 4.65 points for theory education and 4.70 points for practical education based on 5 points. Participants' performance confidence improved from 3.60 points before operation to 7.20 points after operation. Emergency simulation operation consisted of pre-test, theory education, skill education, simulation implementation, debriefing, and post-test. Participants expressed that the choice of group greatly reduced the burden and anxiety about performing the role of the resuscitation team. However, difficulties and inexperience in the operation of the defibrillator were reported in the experimental group. The control group reported that the simulation activity of the experimental group was not significantly different from theirs. Through the results of this study, it was confirmed that emergency simulation education not only reduced the burden and anxiety of inactive nurses, but also had an effect of education. Based on the research results, it is proposed to expand the participants and verify the effectiveness of education through specific variables such as learning commitment, learner confidence, simulation satisfaction, and team effectiveness.

  • In this paper, we choice multicarrier direct-sequence code division multiple access using bandwidth effectively in communication system. Because this system is based on DS-CDMA the same problem is raised. That is, the degradation of the performance is due to multiple access interference. To solve this problem, we proposed the blind adaptive receiver for MC DS-CDMA system. Simulation results show that the proposed blind receiver has more about 0.5(dB) value of SNR than conventional receiver.

  • Hypothesis testing for the equality of two distributions were considered. Nonparametric kernel density estimates were used for testing equality of distributions. Cross-validatory choice of bandwidth was used in the kernel density estimation. Sampling distribution of considered test statistic were developed by resampling method, called the bootstrap. Small sample Monte Carlo simulation were conducted. Empirical power of considered tests were compared for variety distributions.

  • This paper describes numerical analysis of the impulse turbine with fixed guide vanes, a high performance hi-directional air turbine having simple structure for wane energy conversion. A 3-dimensional incompressible viscous flow numerical analysis based on the full Reynolds-averaged Wavier-Stokes equations was made to investigate the internal flow behavior Numerical results ate compared with experimental data. As a result, a suitable choice for the one of design factors has been clarified.

  • The rising popularity of renewable energy sources resulted in development of the units of higher rated powers. As a result of the limited power handling capacity of individual devices, paralleling is the choice to increase the equipment rating, while keeping the THD of the current at the PCC within the agency specified standards. And their typical power circuit configuration limits the stress on individual devices to an appreciable extent. The main scope of this paper is the analysis of filter structure in paralleling inverter system's operation. Simulation results are shown to verify the theoretical analysis.

  • A new soft-switching resonant type inverter is proposed to obtain the low voltage stress. In this proposed inverter, only one additional switch is used for the soft commutation. Therefore, a simple structure and a easy control can be available. Moreover, the PWM capability can be highly improved due to tile convenient choice of switching condition. Based on the operational principle, analysis and design procedures are described. Through the simulation, the operation of the proposed invertor is verified.

  • The choice of threshold is an important in the compression algorithms. It plays a major role in the removal of coefficients which are not preserved the important features. In this paper two threshold method, hard threshold(HTH) and soft threshold(STH) are applied to the suggested wavelet based compression algorithm of power quality signal and compared the compression ratio and NMSE. The simulation results show that STH is bottom than HTH.
