A Study on the Effect of the Components of Cutting Resistance upon Friction between Drill and Inside Wall of Drilled Hole in Drilling (Drill가공시 Drill과 가공구명내벽과의 마찰이 절삭저항성분에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, to check up on the effect of the components of cutting resistance upon friction between drill and inside wall of hole in drilling, the experiment was performed with individual specimen of carbon steel, cast iron, aluminium alloy under various cutting conditions: depth of hole, cutting speed, feed rate, shape and material of specimen. On the basis of the experimental results, the following conclusions are drawn; 1. The components of cutting resis- tance were increased in proportion to the increase of depth of hole owing to frictional resistance of drill margin and chip-jamming. 2. As feed rates increase, torque and thrust were increased. When comparing to the increasing rate for these components respecitively, thrust is higher tendency than torque. 3. As drill diameter increase, torque and thrust were increased. When comparing to the increasing rate for these components respectively, torque is higher tendency than thrust. 4. In the case of torque, the frictional resistance between drill margin and inside wall of drilled hole accounts for about 20 percent of carbon steel, 14 of cast iron, 10 aluminium alloy in drilling. But the effect of thrust force could be negligible. 5. Comparison between the theoretical and experimental results showed a close agreement so far as depth of hole is about three times of drill diameter. But there was a wide difference between them beyond the rane of three times, because of characteristics of the drilling process.

Study on mirror-like surface machining of Al alloy with edge form of single crystal diamond tools (천연 다이아몬드 인선형태에 의한 Al 합금의 경면절삭에 관한 연구)

  • Ultra precision cutting should be satisfied with two conditions of Mirror Like and shape grade, and especially Mirror Like depends on surface roughness. In this study, in order to develop Mirror Cutting for Al alloy, this was done with edge form of single crystal diamond tool divided into R type and S type. Surface roughness machined by S type tool is more satisfactory than by R type tool, being the lowest value of 13.8nm. In addition, Mirror surface can reach above 90% of reflection rate by both R type and S type tool, but machined surface by R type tool has much more fine fracture portions rather than by S type tool. Even though feed rate decreases from 5.mu.m to 1.mu.m, surface roughness doesn't show improvement.

  • Ultra precision diamond cutting is a very efficient manufacturing method for optical parts such as HOE, Fresnel lenses, diffraction lenses, and others. During micro cutting, the rake angle is likely to become negative because the tool edge radius is considerably large compared to the sub-micrometer-order depth of cut. Depending on the ratio of the tool edge radius to the depth of cut, different micro-cutting mechanism modes appear. Therefore, the tool edge sharpness is the most important factor which affects the qualities of machined parts. That is why diamond, especially monocrystal diamond which has the sharpest edge among all other materials, is widely used in micro-cutting. The majar issue is regarding the minimum (critical) depth of cut needed to obtain continuous chips during the cutting process. In this paper, the micro machinability near the critical depth of cut is investigated in micro grooving with a diamond tool. The experimental results show the characteristics of micro-cutting in terms of cutting force ratio (Fx/Fy), chip shape, surface roughness, and surface hardening nea. the critical depth of cut.

The experimental results show the characteristics of micro cutting in terms of cutting force ratio (Fx/Fy), chip shape, surface roughness, and surface hardeing around the critical depth of cut.

  • Recently, micro machining technology for high precision mold becomes more interested for mass production of high performance optical parts micro-grooved on the surface, which is under very active development due to its effectiveness in the view point of optical performance. Mechanical micro machining technology now has more competitiveness on lithography, MEMS or LIGA processes which have some problems to fabricate especially cylinder type of groove in such as lenticular lens for illumination angle modulation system. In this study. a lenticular lens mold with U-type micro groove is fabricated making utilizing of the benefit of the mechanical micro machining technology. A shaping machining process is adapted using 3 axis degree of freedom micro machining system and single crystal natural diamond tool. A brass and a electroless nickel materials are used for mold fabrication. Machining force, chip shape and machined surface are investigated from the experiment and an optimal machining condition is found based on the examined problems from the micro cutting process.

  • The aim of this study was to develop a signal process circuit for a position sensitive avalanche photodiode detector. The circuit parts consisted of amplification, differential and peak/hold circuit. This research was the baseline to develop highly compact radiation detector. The signal was amplified by an amplification chip and its shape was changed in a differential circuit to minimize the pulse tailing. The peak/hold circuit detect the peak of the signal from the differential circuit and hold the amplitude of the peak for data acquisition. In order to test the intrinsic function of the circuit, the input signal was transmitted from a commercial pulse generator.

  • It is over 100 years after Lee Je Ma has proposed concept of the Sasang constitutional medicine in his book DongEuiSooSeBoWon in 1894. As well known, this concept describes four constitution of Taeyang, Taeum, Soyang, and Soeum which are deals with physical body status and shape, desease and symptoms, personal characters, and organ function. In these days there are growing needs to elucidate this Sasang concept by the scientific manner, especially by biological tools. However there are no genes revealed related to the Sasang and moreover it is not easy to give a biological evidence for the Sasang constitution. Here are some considerations about the brief history of biological research on the Sasang constitution, and some prospectives of how to do to find genes of Sasang, and which to be done for what is about Sasang.

  • The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the delamination and fracture integrity of the IC plastic package under hygrothermal loading by stress analysis and fracture mechanics approaches. The plastic SOJ package with a dimpled diepad under the reflow slodering process of IR heating type is considered. On the package without a crack, the stress variation according to the change of the design variables such as the material and shape of the package is calculated and the possibility of delamination is considered. For the model fully delaminated between the chip and diepad, J-integrals are calculated for the various design variables and the fracture integrity is discussed. From the results, optimal design values of variables to prevent the delamination and fracture of IC package are obtained. In this study, FDM program to obtain the vapor pressure from the content of moisture absorbed into the package is developed.

  • Drilling process is usually the most efficient and economical method of making a hole in a solid body. However, there have been no analytical method to assess drilling process based on the shear and frictional characteristics. In this paper, procedures for analyzing shear and frictional processes of drilling have been established by adopting an equivalent turning system to drilling. A series of drilling experiments were carried out with varying feed, velocity and drill shape factors. Using the results of the experiments, the cutting characteristics including shear in the primary shear zone and friction in the chip-tool contact region of drilling process have been analyzed. The specific cutting energy tends to decrease exponentially with increase of feed rate. In drilling process 35-40% of the total energy is consumed in the friction process. This is greater than that of turning process in cutting of the same work material.

  • In this study. a solid-state laser system adopting a sequential discharge method in which three flashlamps are turned on sequently was designed and fabricated to examine the pulse width and the pulse shape of the laser beams depending upon the changes in the lamp turn-on time. That is, this study shows a technology that makes it possible to make various pulse shapes by turning on three flashlamps sequently with the aid of a PIC one-chip microprocessor. With this technique, the lamp turn-on delay time can be varied more diversely from a to lamp and the real-time control is possible with an external keyboard, enabling various pulse shapes. In addition, longer pulses can be more widely used for industrial processing and lots of medical purposes.
