The Place Occupation and the Marginalization Discourse of Migrants: the Case of Chinese Food Culture Street in Jayang-dong in Seoul (이주자의 장소 점유와 주변화 담론 연구 -서울 자양동 중국음식문화거리를 사례로-)

  • One of the most interesting points in the era of globalization and transnationalism is the movement of people, namely migration. This research aims to explain the discourse of marginalization on Korean-Chinese by Korean merchants as the migrants expand their shops in the Chinese Food Culture Street. The Chinese Food Culture Street has been formed by Korean-Chinese restaurants and shops for the process of differentiation from the Garibong-Daelim area. Korean merchants in the street are not opposed to the influx of Korean-Chinese into Korea, however they do not want to the influx of them into the Jayang area. As the influx of Korean-Chinese into this street has increased, so the Korean merchants in the street have marginalized them as dangerous element for local security, as immoral beings cling to their business, and as the main reason for the regional underdevelopment. However, this marginalization of Korean-Chinese makes difficult to understand the real change of local area, because there has been some positive effects by the influx of them such as the improvement of surrounding environment and the elevation of local imagination. This research clearly suggest that the marginalization of migrants by major society is from the fixed idea and prejudice, and this research suggest the need to further study on the occupation and change of local by migrants.

  • According to science technology development, information society has progressed rapidly in the 21st century. Our consciousness and tradition have become entangled in the tide of Westernization. Therefore, the education of Chinese characters was neglected, and Chinese poetry literature was naturally neglected. This led to the abundance of material civilization, however, from the mental aspects, the daily life of modern people became insecure. There is a poet who has lived a lonely life of creation of Chinese poetry in this era. He is a Geasan Kwon Seung Geun(1940~) who writes only poem while being friends with nature. His Chinese poems were revealed through life experiences in nature, which is inspiring sympathy. The origin of his theme is nature. The poetry obtained from nature is rustic simple and pure. Therefore His poems have the style and taste of nature. The Chinese poetry literature of Geasan has been embodied the elements of self-interest, self-satisfaction, self-contentment and living in free at his literatue. On its basis, his Chinese literature has aesthetic boundary of remaining aloofness(自然而然的 超然)·rambling talk, living peacfully and play around with leisure·(閒遠物遊的 閑淡)·deviation rhyme of vividly and beautifully(生趣淸遠的 逸韻) The aesthetic boundary of Chinese poetry of Geasan can be seen as having a depth. This is the aesthetic boundary of Chinese poetry written by this generation in the 21st century.

Ginsenosides Rc, as a novel SIRT6 activator, protects mice against high fat diet induced NAFLD

  • Background: Hepatic lipid disorder impaired mitochondrial homeostasis and intracellular redox balance, triggering development of non-alcohol fatty liver disease (NAFLD), while effective therapeutic approach remains inadequate. Ginsenosides Rc has been reported to maintain glucose balance in adipose tissue, while its role in regulating lipid metabolism remain vacant. Thus, we investigated the function and mechanism of ginsenosides Rc in defending high fat diet (HFD)-induced NAFLD. Methods: Mice primary hepatocytes (MPHs) challenged with oleic acid & palmitic acid were used to test the effects of ginsenosides Rc on intracellular lipid metabolism. RNAseq and molecular docking study were performed to explore potential targets of ginsenosides Rc in defending lipid deposition. Wild type and liver specific sirtuin 6 (SIRT6, 50721) deficient mice on HFD for 12 weeks were subjected to different dose of ginsenosides Rc to determine the function and detailed mechanism in vivo. Results: We identified ginsenosides Rc as a novel SIRT6 activator via increasing its expression and deacetylase activity. Ginsenosides Rc defends OA&PA-induced lipid deposition in MPHs and protects mice against HFD-induced metabolic disorder in dosage dependent manner. Ginsenosides Rc (20mg/kg) injection improved glucose intolerance, insulin resistance, oxidative stress and inflammation response in HFD mice. Ginsenosides Rc treatment accelerates peroxisome proliferator activated receptor alpha (PPAR-α, 19013)-mediated fatty acid oxidation in vivo and in vitro. Hepatic specific SIRT6 deletion abolished ginsenoside Rc-derived protective effects against HFD-induced NAFLD. Conclusion: Ginsenosides Rc protects mice against HFD-induced hepatosteatosis by improving PPAR-α-mediated fatty acid oxidation and antioxidant capacity in a SIRT6 dependent manner, and providing a promising strategy for NAFLD.

A Study on Recognition and Preference of Korean Foods for Foreigners in Different Nationality (국내 체류 외국인들의 출신지역에 따른 한식에 대한 인지도 및 선호도 연구)

  • The study investigated the recognition and preference of foreigner to Korean foods in different nationality. Questionnaires consisted of two languages- Chinese and English were given to 180 residing foreigners in Insa-dong and COEX mall areas and interview methods were used. A total of 157 questionnaires were analyzed for statistical analysis. The statistical analysis was completed using SPSS Win(ver 11.0) for descriptive analysis, ${\chi}^2-test$, ANOVA and Tukey's test. Main results of this study were as follows: First, the factors foreigners considered when they chose food of other countries were; 1.new taste, 2.curiosity, 3.foreign culture, 4.foreign tradition. People from European and Asian countries were inclined to 'New taste' first, while people from American and Oceanian countries were inclined to "curiosity". Second, most of respondents have tried Bulgogi and Galbi before and many of them also have tried Kimchi, Kimbop, and Bibimbop as common Korean foods. Third, the preference was different according to their origins. Asian people liked diverse cuisines including Bulgogi, Galbi, Kimchi, Dubu Doenjan chige, and Samgaetang, while European and Oceanian people liked Bulgogi, Galbi, and Bibimbop. The preference for Kimchi was considerably high among Asian people, however, low among American and Oceanian people(p<0.05). Fourth, Deviation was little on the taste, color, and table settings of Korean foods; most of the respondents was satisfied on those factors. European and Oceanian people who were familiar with table setting according to time were satisfied at table setting of Korean foods, which focused on space, rather than time. Fifth, most of the respondents, especially Asian people, remarked that Korean foods were spicy. The opinion on the taste of Korean foods was variable according to their nations. Currently many of culinary companies from Korea were leading their active business in foreign countries such as China and United States. Their domain was not limited to traditional Korean foods, but expanding to various fields such as fast foods, bakery goods, and fusion snacks.

Aspects and Characteristics of the Combination(混淆) of Waka(和歌) and Chinese Poetry(漢詩) (화가(和歌)와 한시(漢詩)의 혼효(混淆) 양상과 특징)

  • In this text, the author examines the aspects and characteristics of the three forms that were created and enjoyed when the upper-class nobles of Japan "combined(混淆)" waka(和歌) and Chinese poetry(漢詩) between the 10th and 17th centuries. The three forms are the "Collection of Japanese and Chinese poems for singing"(和漢朗詠), "A collection of Japanese and Chinese poems" (詩歌合), and the "Renku renga"(聯句連歌). "Collection of Japanese and Chinese poems for singing" appeared in the 10th century, "A collection of Japanese and Chinese poems" appeared in the 12th century, "Renku renga" appeared in the 14th century, and all three continued to influence the history of Japanese literature after that time. As the combination of literary Japanese and Chinese progressed, the gap between waka and Chinese poetry decreased until they finally combined to create a single work. That is, waka and Chinese poetry converged in one place in multiple ways: as a work that was appropriate to be recited("Collection of Japanese and Chinese poems for singing"), facing each other work against work in a competition("A collection of Japanese and Chinese poems"), and, in the end, they reached the point where they were interchangeable as lines making up long poems(長詩)("Renku renga"). The combination of literary Japanese and Chinese can be said to be the Japanese version of the common movement in East Asian literary history during the Middle Ages to make songs from one's own language flawless in Chinese poetry. Meanwhile, by examining the status changes that appeared as Chinese poetry paralleled, fought with, replaced, and combined with waka, we can find clues to explain the attitudes of the Japanese people on Chinese poetry during the period when the three forms existed, as well as the characteristics of Japanese Chinese poetry that appeared in response to that. The preferences not of "myself" but of the "audience," content and expressions that revere the period rather than the inner self of the poet, and the fact that it is a means for enjoyable pleasure rather than having the original characteristics of lyrical poetry for self-expression are all characteristics of Chinese poetry in Japan during the early and late Middle Ages period. These characteristics can be said to be the current that flows in the underbelly of the history of Chinese literature in Japan. Analysis of the "Korean Wave" News Frame of Chinese Daily Newspapers: Based on the Analysis of Articles Reported between 2001 and 2010 (중국 일간지의 "한류" 보도에 나타난 프레임 분석: 2001~2010년 기간에 보도된 기사 분석을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze how Chinese people perceive the acceptance and spread of Korean popular culture through the analysis of the Korean Wave news frame in Chinese daily newspapers. The result of analysis showed that there was a significant difference in the number of an article appearance in all three daily newspapers by year according to a specific issue including the popularity of Korean Wave-related events, Korean dramas, movies and Korean stars. This reporting trend also appeared in the article format, and all three daily newspapers mainly used an episodic frame to deliver fragmentary Korean Wave trend or personal information emotionally rather than a thematic frame to analyze and interpret the Korean Wave trend in depth. As a result of analyzing dominant news frames using the inductive approach to examine specific contents of the articles, news frames that composed the Korean Wave into the cultural interest frame as 'Interest and attention toward Korean popular culture' and gave positive evaluations were dominant, followed by the economic news frames that explained the Korean Wave from the economic perspective and the political news frames that considered the Korean Wave from the viewpoint of the Chinese Government. These news frames appeared somewhat different according to the publishing purpose of daily newspapers. ${\ll}$People's Daily${\gg}$ which is the official organ of the Chinese Communist Party often covered the political frames to report the policies of Chinese government, ${\ll}$People's Daily (Overseas edition)${\gg}$ often covered economic frames from the overseas perspective and the Jinghua Daily which is a commercial newspaper by nature often handled cultural interest frames to consider Korean Wave as new cultural phenomenon.

  • "Maekgyung(脈經)" was the first book for diagnostic method in traditional Chinese medicine history, but it couldn't be spreaded widely. After that, "Maekgyeol(脈訣)" was widely spreaded for centuries, because it was more concise and easier to memorize than "Maekgyung". But as time went by, people got to know that "Maekgyeol" had many errors. After "Maekgyeolganoh(脈訣刊誤)" corrected the errors of "Maekgyeol", "Maekgyeol" came to lose its reputation and people began to study "Binhomaekhak(瀕湖脈學)" instead of "Maekgyeol". We got to wonder why "Maekgyeol" was criticized by many people, so we decided to compare the definitions of pulses(脈象) in "Maekgyung" and "Maekgyeol" and "Maekgyeolganoh". Both "Maekgyung" and "Maekgyeol" have 24 kinds of pulses, but 22 kinds are in common. In 22 kinds of pulses, only 2 kinds of definitions are similar and the others are different. And "Maekgyeolganoh" criticized errors of "Maekgyeol" and corrected the definitions by that of "Maekgyung". In conclusion, we come to know that "Maekgyeol" was rejected by people because it defined most of pulses different from "Maekgyung".

A Study on the Confucian Influences on the Food Life during Chosun Period (朝鮮時代의 崇儒主義가 食生活에 미친 影響)

  • To point out the Confucian Influence in Chosun, we deal with religious ceremonies, the decline of drinking tea, the spread of dog meat and the development of nutrition for the aged. The result is follows. First, the chosun confucianism changed the Buddhist familty ceremonies of Koryeo period into the confucian cermonies formed by Chu-Tzu's influence. So, buddhist sacrificial table turned into confucian one which was more systematric and more formal on the basis of chosun culture of food. Second, Chosun confucian scholars shrank from drinking tea because tea was the symbol of Buddhism. As a result, our people came to drink " Sung-nyung(scorched-rce tea)" and the common people drank Maggeolli instead of syung-nyung. Furthermore, this resulted in developing some kind of beverages. third, the people of Chosun had little rejection to dog meat and it was popularized in Chosun, Dog maet was popular in Chinese countries, Chu. Chin. and early Han. Later, dong meat almost disappeared except the purpose if healing. the reason why people had little rejection to dong meat in Chosun was that Chosun Conflucianism was the revival of Chu. Fourth, Chosun's state religion was confucianism which emphasize filial duty, the basis of humanity. The gentry researched into medication and nursing I case their old parents got sick. As a result, nutrition for the aged was developed.

A Study on Transformation of Korea man's hairstyle (우리나라 남성수발의 변천에 관한 연구)

  • This thesis is for the study of hair style and consciousness concerning Korean awris hairs. Our nation had been originally considered to be a people without decorating their hairs. The adults however used a bundle of hair which was twirled, and the bachelors wore original hair befor wiman chosun in B.C. 194. Since then this twirled bundle of hair had been consistently used until the end of the chosun period from the Three-Kingdom period, except Mongolian hair style which was used for one hund-red years during the Won's oppression period at the time of Koryo. The bachelor's hair style not being adorned was developed into that of twirled bundle of hair which was used for on the Three-Kingdom period to the Koryo period, but this was also transformed into the current hair style ? mainly to the decree of short-cut hair style in 1895 and the prevolent western clothes. The origin of meins hair style in Korea was a hair without decoration which was same as that of Ski-tie people in Western country, but our style was different from that of Manju and Mongolian people who have same kinship relationshup. And our nation was greatly influenced by the Chinese culture in view of the Twin-Knats style of the unmarried. Our people's consciousness uwderlying in hairs shows resped for seniors, standard between dults and adolescents, magics, and desine for ornaments.

  • In recent years, with the rapid growth of China's animation industry, the two-dimensional culture and consumption have been immersed in the daily lives of young people. The two-dimensional culture that mainly exists on young people is gradually entering the public's field of vision, making the two-dimensional culture not It is only restricted to the fixed fan circle, but is known to more people outside the circle. At the same time, the "barrage" (screen text) cultures in video websites has become popular with some film and television works, Internet terms, etc., and has attracted the attention on mainstream culture.
