  • The house of the China Korean ethnic group in the countryside, kitchen is one of the most important rooms, which works for cooking, warming, and storage. Besides, it has some complementary functions such as washing and showering. The spatial structure of the kitchen is divided into three types, 'jeongji', 'walkway' and 'independent' one. Those houses which are near Korea peninsula mainly belong to the 'jeongji' type; whereas those houses which are in the inland of Jilin, Heilongjiang and Liaoning Provinces mainly are 'walkway' and 'independent' types. The main constituents of the kitchen include pots and pans, water supply and sewerage, fuel and storage etc. The differences among these constituents lead to the geographic differences in the aspect of cooking method and dietary culture, and finally the different kitchen spatial characters are manifested.

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine and analyse the features of plan type and space composition of the Siheyuan(courtyard house) which is one of the most remarkable types of the traditional dwellings in China. With the passage of time this house developed into one of the chinese house style. The technique of Siheyuan's spatial composition goes so far back in the New Stone Age. The relics of this are the colony layout, the system of four sides, the layout type of a palace, the picture of lacquered ware, the pictured brick, the earthenware of house type, the cave painting, the paintings of painters and others. The fundamental spatial conception of it arranges one or more courtyards to compose, sometimes in a very complex way, a general walled compound. The main longitudinal axis is mainly north-south, but the chief buildings, or halls are always placed transversely to it. These rectangular buildings mayor may not connect, by means of open galleries variously planned, with rows of smaller buildings flanking the courtyards on both sides. On this system, enlargement is never carried out by adding to height, but by continual duplication of existing units, and growth in breadth or preferably depth. The need for family security is thought to have led to the development of this rectangular houses with walls mainly blank on the outside, defensible entrances, and public service facilities in the center of the houses.

S-3(House in a Plum Grove), S-4(House in China)에서의 개인공간들의 통합도 평균값이 10개 작품들중 가장 높은 수치를 보이고 있다. 개인공간은 제1기 보다는 제2기 작품들에서 더 폐쇄도가 떨어지는 경향이 있음을 알 수 있다. 세째, 공용공간측면에서 살펴보면, 제1기(1990년대) 작품인 I-2(Villa in the Forest), I-5(S-House), I-6(Weekend House)에서의 공용공간들의 통합도 평균값이 10개 작품들중 가장 높은 수치를 보이고 있다. 공용공간은 제2기 보다는 제1기 작품들에서 더 중심적이며 개방적인 경향을 보이고 있음을 알 수 있다.

For Korea, Banga, where upper class residents lived, and modern urban Hanok were chosen to be analyzed. For China, two types of housing wear studied: Sahapwon, original form of China housing, and Yinong house which is a typical Sanghai house. First, the elements of living environment in two major cities; Seoul and Sanghai was defined to analyze factors of traditional houses in both cities. Depending on those factors, relationship among traditional and modern housing types were compared and analyzed, focusing on unit plan case studies for a better understanding of living environment in South Korea and China. From this study, similarities and differences between apartment plans in Seoul and Shanghai was examined according to their residential style, surrounding natural environment and lifestyle factors. In Seoul's apartment, spacial composition and movement lines were mainly formed around the public space in Seoul, while public space of living and dining room was located at housing entrance area in the Shanghai's residential system, configuring narrow form of housing unit. In respect of the natural environment, the unit plan of rectangular form in Seoul was more efficient in day lighting and wind circulation than the unit plan of narrow form in Shanghai. • To compare the lighting environment of the living rooms in the apartments in Korea and China, this research conducted a study of the current status, targeting 79 households in Korea and 68 households in China. The results are the following. First, the two nations use mostly fluorescent light as the general lighting for the living room. China, in particular, share of not using the local lighting is very high. Secondly, levels of illumination was measured. The result demonstrates that the brightness of the lighting is higher in Korea compared to China while China demonstrates higher uniformity ratio for the levels of illumination compared to Korea. However, levels of illumination in general are very low in China. Thus, it cannot be concluded that China offers favorable lighting environment. Third, study on the degree of living room lighting's brightness and satisfaction level demonstrates that they are both average in Korea and China. As for the important points for the house lighting, most Koreans cited 'brightness of the lighting' while most Chinese said 'ease of maneuvering'.

  • This paper deals with architectural activities related to Korean society in Jichang district in North East China, focused on the articles of Manseon-ilbo published there during the Japanese colonial period. Construction-related contents in the area closely connected with topical interest, publicity, and enlightenment as a local media source provide positive grounds about pending issues in colonial situations. This paper handles with articles issued in the 1940's newspapers just before the Pacific War. At that time Japanese enter in the Chinese continent, and construct a stable basis in the intimate association with Germany and Italy, countering against the United State. Among articles regarding architecture, most of contents are based on healthcare and public facilities, and urban planning. Overwhelmingly the most popular articles are about new constructions of educational facilities and residential matters. The shortage of goods and the excessive concentration of population resulted in urban and house problems, which were particularly much more serious in Korea society. Such social atmosphere made all activities regarding building constructions, in particular educational facilities, in civil level rather than the helps of the Japanese colonial government. Thus, through education and house matters we can read a slice of Korean society to survive in the colonial environment of Jichang district.
