  • Objectives : This study is aimed to search for the effective application of the Sa-Am acupuncture(舍岩鍼法) for the treatment of diarrhea. Methods : The classification and the treatment for diarrhea in ${\ll}$Sa-Am-Do-In-Chim-Gu-Yo-Kyul(舍岩道人鍼灸要訣)${\gg}$ was compared with those of ${\ll}$Dong-Eui-Bo-Kham(東醫寶鑑)${\gg}$ and ${\ll}$Chim-Gu-Dae-Sung(鍼灸大成)${\gg}$ Results & Conclusions : In ${\ll}$Dong-Eui-Bo-Kham(東醫寶鑑)${\gg}$, diarrhrea was classified into 20 classes and mainly treated with herbal medicine and additionally with acupuncture treatment. Ashi (nearby) points in lower abdomen and sacral region were often used as well as the points on Spleen meridian(SP) and Stomach meridian(ST) to treat diarrhea in ${\ll}$Chim-Gu-Dae-Sung(鍼灸大成)${\gg}$ According to ${\ll}$Sa-Am-Do-In-Chim-Gu-Yo-Kyul(舍岩道人鍼灸要訣)${\gg}$, Diarrhrea was classified into 6 classes; wet diarrhrea (濡泄; kidney damage), abrupt diarrhrea (暴泄; spleen damage), damp diarrhrea (濕泄; stomach damage), fire diarrhrea (火泄; heart dryness), ki(qi) diarrhrea (氣泄; lung damage) and cold diarrhrea (冷泄; liver damage). Sa-Am acupuncture seems to be applied on the basis of more precise diagnoses of organs and meridians and provide with more fundamental treatments in comparison with classical acupuncture.

  • Huh-Im(許任, 1570~1647) was an acupuncture doctor of Chosun(朝鮮) era through the late 16th century and early 17th century. Even though he was a person of low birth, he participated in the loyal medication through three loyal generations, Sunjo(宣祖), Kwanghaegun(光海君) and Injo(仁祖). He was recognized of his services and became an official, 'Dangsanggwan'(堂上官) and Kyunggi(京畿) district official several times. In the early Chosun era, acupuncture medicine was focused. During the late 16th century, Imjin(壬辰) war aroused more needs about acupuncture medicine, and acupuncture doctors showed remarkable work. Under these circumstances, Huh-Im(許任)'s fame spread throughout the country. Huh-Im(許任) wrote ChimGuKyungHumBang("鍼灸經驗方") in 1644 based on his lifetime clinical acupuncture & moxibustion experience. It was the first specialized book of acupuncture in Chosun era. This event took place 30 years after DongEuiBoGam - Acupuncture Chapter("東醫寶鑑-鍼灸篇") was published. But it was not influenced much by DongEuiBoGam - Acupuncture Chapter("東醫寶 鑑-鍼灸篇") in the form or contents. ChimGuKyungHumBang("鍼灸經驗方") and Huh-Jun(許浚)'s DongEuiBo- Gam - Acupuncture Chapter("東醫寶鑑-鍼灸篇") were the fruits of the middle Chosun, and they are complementary to each other in theory and practice. The chief distinctions of ChimGuKyungHumBang("鍼灸經驗方") are in it's compact and practical edition and a lot of his clinical acupuncture prescriptions mentioned in the book. Huh-Im(許任) not only accepted the existing books such as NaeKyung("內經"), DongInSuHyulChimGuDoKyung and Shin- Eung Kyung("神應經") with his point of view and clinical experience, but also showed creative operation of studies. Indicating incorrect acupuncture points(訛穴), acupuncture remedy based on the visceral pathogenesis(臟腑病機) and the channel pathogenesis, research on new acupuncture points, sorting out plenty of outer meridian acupuncture points(經外奇穴), creating supplementary and purging acupuncture method(鍼補瀉法) which is a change of hand treatment of KiHyoYangBang("奇效良方"), operating variety of acupuncture and moxibustion treatments, and application of acupuncture treatments on surgery field such as intumescences and emergency cases are the examples. Huh-Im(許任)'s ChimGuKyungHumBang("鍼灸經驗方") influenced on the folk remedy books(民間經驗方書) in the late Chosun era. Compact and practical characteristics of the book let acupuncture treatment be freindly to the people. It can be confirmed in JeungBoSanRimKyungJe-Emergency Chapter("增補山林經濟-救急篇") or the formation of SaAmChimBob(舍巖鍼法). ChimGuKyungHumBang("鍼灸經驗方") was introduced to Japan in 18th century and published twice. ChimGuJibSung("鍼灸集成"), known as an acupuncture medical book of late Qing dynasty(淸末, 1874), is confirmed to be an plagiarization of DongEuiBoGam-Acupuncture Chapter("東醫寶鑑-鍼灸篇") and ChimGuKyungHum- Bang("鍼灸經驗方") of 17th century Chosun. Confusions and errors arouse from mistaken editional trend of ChimGuJIbSung("鍼灸集成") which had not disclosed it's original author and the title of the book must be reformed. In this way, fruits of acupuncture of the middle Chosun era including Huh-Im(許任)'s ChimGuKyungHumBang("鍼灸經驗方") will take a right place in acupuncture medicine history.

  • Objective : This research is aimed to compare the three sets of Dongin(K-1, K-2, K-3) to Chosun and Chinese acupuncture bronze men, and through literature review of acupuncture points and meridians to see how acupuncture of Chosun affected the Japan's acupuncture bronze men. Methods : Using 3D scanning, we compared the location of acupoints by the proportional bone measurement method of the three sets of Dongin to those of Chosun and China. We also compared the meridians and acupuncture points of the three sets of Dongin to Doningyosodo. Results : Dongin K-1 and K-2 have all the unique characteristics of ChimGuemDongIn. Their heads were made about 30% larger than the location of points by the proportional bone measurement method and their necks were shortened to get the right proportion. Their gender was not specified. Their hands were sticking forward, and knees were slightly bent, and the arms and legs were carefully crafted to record acupuncture points. Dongin K-1 and K-2 marked the meridians and acupuncture points according to Doningyosodo. In particular, BL39 in Dongin K-1 and K-2 has been marked as in ChimGeumDongIn, which is considered to have come from DongUiBoGam. These characteristics do not exist in Chinese acupuncture bronze men. The location of points by the proportional bone measurement method was marked on the right side of the Dongin K-3, while the eight extra meridians were marked on the left side. Conclusions : In summary, Dongin K-1 and K-2 indicate the Japanese history of acupuncture which may have influenced from Chosun.

  • Generally, we regard the concept of Guchim(九鍼) in "Naegyeong(內經)" as the a generic term of acupuncture means of nine kinds of forms and usages. However, it also contains the meaning of methods and transcriptures of acupuncture. The diversity of Guchim reflects that it has a high level diagnosis and treatment based on overall analysis of symptoms and signs. And among the treatments, reinforcing and reducing methods are prominent. The treatments of reinforcing and reducing methods, usually use Hochim(毫鍼), the filiform needle. The focus of Guchim, in reinforcing and reducing of Gi(氣), is reinforcing and reducing by way of drainage of Gi. And it mainly deals with diseases of Gi. From the research of the philosophic background of the number Nine in Chinese philosophy, number nine symbolizes the posterior and space, as number one symbolizes apriority and time. In this circumstances, Guchim became the supreme method of acupuncture. The concept of Gwanchim(官鍼), standardized needle in "Naegyeong" also expresses the Guchim as theory and skill in standardized traditional medicine. The period of materialization of Guchim and Gwanchim lies in from the era of Jeonguk[戰國時代, the age of civil wars] to Han dyansty[漢代], when the "Naegyeong" made a synthesis of the medicine in those days, as the society unified politically and ideologically. In this process, Guchim was sublimated in method of acupuncture which contained absolute authority.

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine the various kinds of recipes of pheasant through classical cookbooks written from 1670 to 1943 which are the basic materials to the meat cooking. The recipes of pheasant are found 39 times in the literature, which can be classified into eleven groups. Chronologically, the recipe of mandu (ravioli) was first appeared, and guk, tang (soup), kui (roasted), jang (salted meat), chim (steamed), po (dried meat), whe (raw meat), gijim (boiled in soy sauce), cho (sparkly heated in soy sauce and sugar), jolim (hard boiled in soy sauce), and jungol (meat with vegetable cooked in pan) followed in the records. Kui was the most popular one with the frequency of 43.6%, which proves that kui is the most suitable one for pheasant among all of recipes. Mandu and guk, tang were 10.2%, chim and po were found with the same rate of 7.7% and the next ones were jang, gijim, cho, and jungol with the rate of 2.6%. The recipes of pheasant were recorded much less than those of beef, chicken, pork, lamb, and dog meat. Particularly, in comparison with chicken belonging to fowls, the frequency of pheasant cooking did not reach even to one third of that. The Korean recipes of pheasant have been independently developed with originality, having nothing to do with the Chinese ones. The recipes of pheasant before the late 1800s have based on the strict recipe principles along with the spirit of art and sincerity, but they were deteriorated to simple and easy ones discarding principles. The main ingredient was the flesh of pheasant and the sub-ingredients such as flour, pinenut, buckwheat powder, and mushroom were included in common. In additon, oil, soy sauce, black pepper, and stone leek were frequently used as main seasonings.

  • Factors influencing penetration kinetics of PVAm solution into paper were investigated with ultrasonic Penetration Evenness Analyzer (PEA). Paper structure was varied by changing basis weight, freeness of pulp, calendering, number of plies and filler addition and hydrophobicity of paper was varied by adding AKD. Important factors affecting liquid penetration are found to be pore structure and hydrophobicity of paper. Pore structure of paper can be designed by controlling refining degree and filler addition. Hydrophobicity of paper can be controlled by internal sizing.
