초등학생 편식지도를 위한 영양교육 프로그램 운영의 효과 (The Effect of Nutrition Education Program for Elementary School Children - Especially Focused on Being Familiar with Vegetables -)

  • The purpose of this study was to observe the effect of nutrition education program that promote vegetable eating behavior of elementary school children. Three hundred education thirty two children were surveyed to understand food preference of them. The preferences for vegetables showed the lowest scores and fruits were the favorites of children, who aged ten to eleven, volunteered the program for six weeks. 31.3% of them were not in the state of underweight, overweight or obese. The nutrition education program include teaching guidances and materials in order to children to familiar with vegetables especially. To evaluate the effect of the nutrition education program, change of food preferences, nutrition knowledge and eating behavior of children were investigated before and after nutrition education. When the children finish the program, their preference scores for vegetables showed significantly higher than before the program(p<0.05, p<0.001), except tomato and laver that have high scores from the beginning(>1.5). Nutrition knowledge scores have significantly improved from 57.1 to 66.4(p<0.05). Eating habit for special food has improved(p<0.001) and breakfast skipping has reduced significantly(p<0.05). These results indicate that the nutrition education program can promote children to do balanced eating behaviors.

  • Totally implantable venous devices (TIVD)는 장기간 항암 화학 요법이나 총 정맥 영양, 수액치료가 필요한 환자에서 많이 사용된다. TIVD는 매우 유용하고 안전한 장치이지만, 이와 관련된 다양한 합병증이 보고 되어 왔다. 저자들은 카테터의 혈관 내 유착에 의해 TIVD의 제거가 불완전하게 된 2예를 경험하였기에 보고하는 바이다.

  • The main propose of this study was 1 examine the relations of parenting behaviors perceived by children to children's aggression and Unsocial behaviors with a sample of 301 6th-graders(161 boys and 140 girls) and their teachers(N=10). The children answered questionnaires regarding parenting behaviors such as physical punishment psychological control, md responsiveness. Children's aggression and unsocial behaviors were rated by their teachers. Boys showed higher overt aggression than girls. Children were more aggressive when they perceived that their parents used more physical punishment and psychological control and they were less responsive. Children showed more prosocial behaviors when they perceived that their parents used less physical punishment' and psychological control and they were more responsive. The more aggressive the children were, the less prosocial they were.

Overview of Noncommunicable Diseases in Korean Children and Adolescents: Focus on Obesity and Its Effect on Metabolic Syndrome

  • Obesity during childhood is a dominant risk factor for noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), and is itself considered a disease that needs to be treated. Recently, the growth in childhood obesity in Korea has become stagnant; however, two in every ten children are still overweight. In addition, 60% or more of overweight children have at least one metabolic syndrome risk factor. Thus, childhood obesity should be controlled through lifestyle modification. This paper reviews studies of the modifiable risk factors of obesity in Korean children. According to the life-course approach, preschool-aged children (<5 years) are influenced by their parents rather than individual habits because they are under mostly parental care. Elementary school-aged children (6 to 11 years) are affected by overlapping individual and parental effects. This may mean that the establishment of individual behavior patterns begins during this period. The conditions of poor eating habits such as skipping meals, eating out, and high fat intake, along with low physical activity, facilitate increased obesity among adolescents (12 to 18 years). Notably, adolescent girls show high rates of both underweight and obesity, which may lead to the development of NCDs in their offspring. Therefore, the problem of NCDs is no longer limited to adults, but is also prevalent among children. In addition, early intervention offers cost-effective opportunities for preventing NCDs. Thus, children need primary consideration, adequate monitoring, diagnosis, and treatment to reduce the burden of NCDs later in adulthood.

Effect of Object Manipulation Ability and Basic Movement Ability on Mathematical Ability of Young Children

  • The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between the object ability, basic movement ability, and mathematical ability of young children. Next, through this study, the influence of young children's object manipulation ability and basic movement ability on mathematical ability was investigated. The subjects of this study were 80 children aged 5 years old. As a research tool, the non-mobile movement and mobile movement, the basic movement development test scale, and the young children's picture-mathematical ability test scale were used. This survey was conducted from October 2018 to January 2019. For data analysis, correlation analysis and hierarchical multiple regression analysis were performed using the spss program. As a result of the study, it was found that there was a significant positive correlation between the non-mobile ability, movement ability, object manipulation ability and mathematical ability of young children. It was found that young children's ability to manipulate objects and non-movement abilities had positive effect on their mathematical abilities. The movement ability of young children had both negative and positive effects on mathematical ability, but it was not found to be statistically significant. This study is meaningful in that it investigated the effects of non-mobile movement, mobile movement ability, and object manipulation ability, which are sub-capabilities of basic movement ability, which had not been investigated so far, on the mathematical ability of young children.

학령기 아동의 아동행동문제 예측모형 (Prediction Model of Child Behavioral Problems in the School Age Children)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors of child behavioral problems and construct a descriptive model that explains child behavioral problems for school age children. Method: The participants in the study were 586 4th, 5th, 6th graders and their mothers. The children attended 8 elementary schools located in Taejon city and their mothers. The tools used in this study was the Mother's Child Raising Behavior Scale by Park, Seong-Yeon and Yi, Sook(1990). To measure child's self esteem, the Self Esteem Scale by Kim(1987) was used; child perceived social support was measured with the Social Support Evaluation Scale by Dubow and Ullman(1989), and childhood behavioral problems were measured with the Korean standardized of version of the Korean-Child Behavior Checklist(K-CBCL)(1997). Descriptive statistics and linear structural relationship(LISREL) modeling were used to analyze the data. SAS and LISREL 8.12a programs were used. Results: The overall fit of the hypothetical model to the data was good $>X^2=103.07(p=0.00)$, GFI=0.96, AGFI=0.94, RMSR=0.04, RMSEA=0.07, NFI=0.94, NNFI=0.95< Maternal child raising behaviors(T=2.21) and child perceived social support(T=10.29) had a significant, direct effect on a child's self esteem. Maternal child raising behaviors(T=-3.87), and child self esteem(T=-2.04) and had a significant total effect on child behavioral problems. These variables accounted for 63% of the variance of the child behavioral problems in the school age children. Conclusion: These finding have provided support for maternal child raising behaviors, child perceived social support, and child self esteem as predictive variables of behavioral problems in school age children.

Successful pleurodesis with OK-432 in preterm infants with persistent pleural effusion

  • OK-432 (picibanil) is an inactivated preparation of $Streptococcus$ pyogenes that causes pleurodesis by inducing a strong inflammatory response. Intrapleural instillation of OK-432 has recently been used to successfully treat neonatal and fetal chylothorax. Here we report a trial of intrapleural instillation of OK-432 in two preterm infants who were born with hydrops fetalis and massive bilateral pleural effusion. Both cases showed persistent pleural effusion, refractory to conservative treatment, up to postnatal days 26 and 46, respectively. An average of 80 to 140 mL of pleural fluid was drained daily. In case 1, the infant was treated with OK-432 during the fetal period at gestation 28 weeks and 4 days of gestation, but showed recurrence of pleural effusion and progressed into hydrops. Within two to three days after OK-432 injection, the amount of pleural fluid drainage was dramatically decreased and there was no reaccumulation. We did not observe any side effects related to OK-432 injection. We suggest that OK-432 should be considered as a therapeutic option in infants who have persistent pleural effusion for more than four weeks, with the expectation of the early removal of the chest tube and a good outcome.

다중 지능 이론에 기초한 미술 교육 프로그램이 유아의 창의성과 공간능력에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of an Art Education Program Based on Multiple Intelligence Theory on Children's Creativity and Spatial Ability)

  • This study examined the effects of an art program based on multiple intelligence theory on children's creativity and spatial ability. The art education program focused on three processes : perception, production and reflection. Subjects were 68 five-year-old children. The experimental design was 'The Untreated Control Group Design with Pretest & Posttest'. ANCOV was employed for statistical analysis. Results were that the children in the experimental group scored significantly higher on creativity and spatial ability than the children in the control group. Results imply that an art education program based on multiple intelligence theory can be an effective teaching model for improving children's creativity and spatial ability.

학령 후기 아동의 일상적 스트레스가 학교생활적응에 미치는 영향을 중재하는 보호요인 : 자기통제력과 유머감각 (Self-control and Sense of Humor as Moderating Factors for Negative Effects of Daily Hassles on School Adjustment for Children)

  • This study investigated whether children's self-control and sense of humor could moderate negative effects of daily hassles on their school adjustment. Subjects of this study were 880 6th graders (468 boys, 412 girls) in the Seoul metropolitan area. Children reported their daily hassles, school adjustment, self-control, and sense of humor on questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation analysis, and moderated regression analysis. Results showed that children who experienced less daily hassles, had higher self-control, and higher sense of humor were well-adjusted in their schools. Children's self-control and sense of humor moderated negative effects of daily hassles on school adjustment of children, although the moderate effect was weak.

유아국악능력 검사도구 개발 및 양호도 검증 (Development and Validation of the Korean Traditional Music Ability Test for Young Children)

  • The purpose of this study was the development and validation of a test of young children's understanding and their ability to represent the elements of traditional Korean music. The test was reviewed by professional groups and modified by preliminary testing. In its final form, the Korean Traditional Music Ability Test(KTMAT) for 4- to 6-year-old children consists of 43 items covering understanding and ability to represent Changdan(Changdanhyung, Bak, Bbareugi and Semyeorim) and Garak(Eumjeong and Sikimshae). Item analysis, reliability and validity tests were statistically significant. The KTMAT is an evaluation tool that can be used as basic material for developing children's musical ability, and it can provide valuable information showing direction for children's Korean traditional music education.
