This paper presents a design of the Dasan Children\`s Park which is located Shindang- dong, lung-gu, Seoul which has an area of about 3,678$m^2$. Objectives for the design were to make nature-friendly space, learning space, interesting play space, space for every child, adventure play space, traditional play space, sense of place, and recycle space. For the space compositions a children\`s garden, a traditional play space, and a science play space were located around the S shaped main route. Facilities relating nature, science, culture. environment and adventure play were arranged in the 3 main spaces. The Children\`s Garden is a green space for learning and playing with natural elements. It is composed of a ecological learning space, a children\`s story garden, a children\`s song road, an environmental labyrinth, and a pall space leer handicap children. The Science Play Place is a place space for learning scientific theories through plays to which scientific theories were applied. It is composed of a total play structure, a math experience playground, a \"Keojunggi\" play space, a sound reflecting experience space, arid an infant playground. The Traditional Play Madang(space) is a space for traditional plays. It is composed of a traditional play pattern, a sun dial, and a floor fountain. The Recycle Road is a dragon shaped road fort learning about resource recycling and conservation. It is composed of a dragon head, body, tail space and a dragon bead(cint mani).int mani).
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between socioeconomic status, maternal involvement in learning, parenting behavior and children's self-determination motivation. The participants of this study consisted of 333 fifth- and sixth-grade elementary school children and their mothers living in Seoul. The results of this study indicated that mothers with a higher educational attainment reported greater autonomy support behavior and involvement in their offspring's learning. Conversely, mothers with low incomes were found to use psychological control and were also found to be involved in learning to a lesser degree. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis indicated that children whose mothers were less involved in learning showed higher levels of self-determination motivation. Additionally, maternal support for autonomy and psychological control had a number of moderating effects on the association between maternal involvement in learning and the child's self-determination motivation. Specifically, children tended to exhibit significantly lower levels of self-determination motivation when mothers were more involved in learning among those who received less support in terms of autonomy. Conversely, children had significantly higher levels of self-determination motivation when mothers were less involved in learning when it came to those children who were under less psychological control.
Human-Robot Interaction (HRI), based on already well-researched Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), has been under vigorous scrutiny since recent developments in robot technology. Robots may be more successful in establishing common ground in project-based education or foreign language learning for children than in traditional media. Backed by its strong IT environment and advances in robot technology, Korea has developed the world's first available e-Learning home robot. This has demonstrated the potential for robots to be used as a new educational media - robot-learning, referred to as 'r-Learning'. Robot technology is expected to become more interactive and user-friendly than computers. Also, robots can exhibit various forms of communication such as gestures, motions and facial expressions. This study compared the effects of non-computer based (NCB) media (using a book with audiotape) and Web-Based Instruction (WBI), with the effects of Home Robot-Assisted Learning (HRL) for children. The robot gestured and spoke in English, and children could touch its monitor if it did not recognize their voice command. Compared to other learning programs, the HRL was superior in promoting and improving children's concentration, interest, and academic achievement. In addition, the children felt that a home robot was friendlier than other types of instructional media. The HRL group had longer concentration spans than the other groups, and the p-value demonstrated a significant difference in concentration among the groups. In regard to the children's interest in learning, the HRL group showed the highest level of interest, the NCB group and the WBI group came next in order. Also, academic achievement was the highest in the HRL group, followed by the WBI group and the NCB group respectively. However, a significant difference was also found in the children's academic achievement among the groups. These results suggest that home robots are more effective as regards children's learning concentration, learning interest and academic achievement than other types of instructional media (such as: books with audiotape and WBI) for English as a foreign language.
This study investigated the relations of children's age, intelligence, and the concept of conservation to their learning of English. Ten 4-year-old children from 1 child-care center and 13 7-year-old children from 1 elementary school were tested after completion of 8 sessions of experimental English classes. Children's intelligence was measured by K-WPPSI for 4-year olds and K-WISC for 7-year-olds. Children were tested for number and liquid conservations. A Korean teacher with 11 years of experience of teaching children at American elementary schools taught the 2 groups with the same subjects and methods. Data were analysed by independent samples t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, and Pearson's r. The results showed that children's age and the concept of conservation were related to English learning. No statistically significant relationship with IQ was found.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of multi-sensory treatment programs on attention and learning in ADHD children. Methods : The program was provided for 50 minutes twice a week for a total of 12 times over 6 weeks. The FAIR concentration test was used to identify the children's concentration of attention before and after the intervention. The children's learning ability was evaluated using K-ABC. Results : When attention was evaluated using FAIR, there was a significant increase in all dependencies of performance value (P), quality value (Q), and continuity value (C) (p>.05). In addition, when learning ability was evaluated using K-ABC, learning ability in general increased significantly (p>.05). The multi-sensory play therapy program had a positive effect on the children's attention and learning ability and thus it is a positive intervention method for children with ADHD. Conclusion : In addition to providing challenging activities, the program showed that it was possible to elicit the children's interest by engaging a variety of senses at the same time. This is believed to have motivated them internally to engage actively in the program.
During cooperative learning in small group, we investigate what characteristics children in elementary school show at several fields of mathematics and through communicating activity etc., what influence the cooperative learning does on children's attitude, thinking, problem solving, recognition. To know them, we observe the process of children's communication and evaluate children's attitude, thinking, problem solving, recognition with checklist at each lesson. Through this research, we conclude that the figure part is the most effective when we teach with cooperative learning type, and the cooperative learning evoke the vivid communication, and make progress in affirmative attitude, thinking etc. Also, in this thesis we suggest the points which teacher should consider when he/she use cooperative learning in small-group.
The purpose of this study was to develop Parent Education Program for Learning Coaching which enhances parent's learning-support behaviors, as well as, children's self-Efficacy and self-regulated learning capability, and to implement and evaluate the program for the families with school aged children. The results of this study were as follows. First, the contents of the experimental model of 'Parent Education Program for Learning Coaching' were specified as five factors namely; offering options, offering democratic rules, pursuing appropriate results, offering school-related information, offering self-regulated learning skills for children. Second, significant differences in the experiment group were found in pre- and post-test scores of parent's learning-support behaviors and children's self-efficacy and self-regulated learning capability, but not for the control group. Thus, based on these findings, a modified model of 'Parent Education Program for Learning Coaching' was presented as a conclusion.
This study investigated the association between children's perceptions of autonomy support from mothers and teachers in relation to academic procrastination. It also examined the role of self-efficacy for self-regulated learning in mediating these effects. The sample comprised 372 fifth and sixth grade elementary school students from Seoul, Korea. Each completed a questionnaire regarding mothers' and teachers' autonomy support, children's self-regulated learning efficacy, and academic procrastination. The results indicated that whereas mothers' autonomy support had a direct effect on children's academic procrastination, teachers' support did not. In other words, children who perceived higher levels of autonomy support from mothers tended to exhibit less academic procrastination. Regarding indirect paths, children who perceived higher levels of mothers' and teachers' autonomy support displayed greater efficacy for self-regulated learning, which corresponded to lower levels of academic procrastination. The discussion highlights the vital roles of autonomy support from mothers and teachers in enhancing children's feelings of effective self-regulated learning and encouraging them to complete academic tasks. Furthermore, the present study considered not only outward behavioral factors but also the underlying cognitive and affective aspects of delaying behavior that underpin the effects of self-regulated learning efficacy and autonomy support of mothers and teachers on academic procrastination.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the moderating effects of parental monitoring on the relationship between children's dependency on mobile phones and control of learning behavior. The data came from the 2010 Korean Children and Youth Panel (N = 1,609) conducted by the National Youth Policy Institute. The analysis method used was Structural Equation Modeling by using SPSS 17.0 and AMOS 7.0. To test the significant moderating effects, Ping's two-step technique, which is free from the requirement of nonlinear constraints, was used. Our results demonstrated that children's dependency on mobile phones had negative effects on control of learning behavior, and the interaction effects between such dependency and parental monitoring affected the control of learning behavior. Thus, these results proved the moderating effects of parental monitoring in the control of learning behavior. This study suggests that parental monitoring buffers against having difficulties to control and adjust one's behavior associated with control of learning behavior, which is affected by the dependency on mobile phones among children. We discussed that the risks of children's dependency on mobile phones and parental monitoring should be acknowledge as a significant protective factor.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of self-regulated learning components, such as metacognition, motivation, and learning strategies, on academic achievement in normally achieving children and learning disabled(LD) children. The subjects were 345 normally achieving children, 12 LD children, and a group of 12 normally achieving children to match the LD children. Data was analyzed by Pearson's product moment correlation coefficient, stepwise multiple regression analysis, and t-test. Results showed that metacognition, motivation and learning strategy are important components of successful academic achievement and self-regulated learning in normally achieving children. Among the self-regulated learning components, metacognition was the most powerful predictor of academic achievement. For the LD children, the results showed that they have metacognitive deficits and motivational problems. Implications for intervention to improve academic achievement of low achievers and LD children were discussed.
