The Mediating Effect of Stress-coping Strategies of Childcare Teachers' Creative Personality on Teacher Efficacy (어린이집 교사의 창의적 인성이 교사효능감에 미치는 영향에서 스트레스 대처전략의 매개효과)

  • Objective: This study aimed to investigate the mediating effect of stress-coping strategies of childcare teachers' creative personality on teacher efficacy. Methods: Study subjects were 204 childcare teachers working at nursery schools located in S city of Gyeonggi province, and this study collected materials from childcare teachers through a self-report survey. For materials collected, this study conducted frequency analysis, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis using spss 21.0, and verified the mediating effect through the Sobel Test. Results of this study are as follows. Results: First, there was a positive correlation among creative personality, teacher efficacy and stress-coping strategies. Second, results show that stress-coping strategies mediate the effect of childcare teachers' creative personality on teacher efficacy. Lastly, problem-focused coping strategies turned out to be full mediation, whereas coping strategies seeking social support was partial mediation. Conclusion: Based on the results, this study suggested the necessity to prepare a practical plan for enabling childcare teachers to use stress-coping strategies in a successful way.

Mediating Effect of Job Stress in the Relationship between Childcare Teachers' Personality and Child Abuse (보육교사의 인성과 아동학대 관계에서 직무스트레스의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the mediating effect of job stress between childcare teacher personality and child abuse, and provides basic data on personality education and coping strategies for childcare teachers' job stress. A survey was conducted on 326 childcare teachers working at daycare centers in Incheon, Korea. The collected questionnaires were subjected to regression analysis, multiple regression analysis, and Sobel's Z-test according to the research purpose with using SPSS 20.0. The research results are as follow. First, it was found that job performance, a sub-factor of childcare teacher personality, had an effect on child abuse. Second, it was found that the sub-factors of childcare teacher personality, humanity, creativity and personality, social relations, and job performance had an effect on job stress. Third, it was found that childcare activities, the sub-factors of job stress, and the relationship with parents had an effect on child abuse. Fourth, it was found that childcare activities, sub-factors of job stress, partially mediated between job performance and child abuse, a sub-factor of childcare teacher personality. These findings suggest that in order to prevent and contain child abuse by childcare teachers, specific plan must be actively prepared to improve job performance skills related to childcare teacher personality and reduce the burden of child care activities which is a sub-factor of job stress.

Perception of Professionalism by MBTI Personality Types of Infant Childcare Teachers (영아반 보육교사의 MBTI 성격유형에 따른 전문성에 대한 인식)

  • The purpose of current study was to investigate if there is a difference in perception of professionalism depending on MBTI personality types of infant childcare teachers. The subjects of present study were 350 infant childcare teachers. The results for each research question were as follows: First, when the relationship between MBTI personality types and perception of professionalism of infant childcare teachers was investigated, it was found that higher professionalism was evident when preference for judging(J) type of infant childcare teachers among MBTI personality types was stronger, and lower professionalism was evident if preference for perceiving (P) type was stronger. Second, the result of examining differences in perception of professionalism according to MBTI personality types of infant childcare teachers was that extrovert teachers had higher perception of professional knowledge and skills than introvert teachers and there was no difference in perception of professionalism between sensing and intuition types. Teachers of thinking type had higher perception about fairness and professional organizations than those of emotional type, and teachers of judging had higher perception about socio-economic status, community service, and professional knowledge and skills than those of perception. Based on this study result, discussion was made on the fact that provision of more proper role among child and infant classes may result in efficiency and emotional and professional support is necessary so that professionalism of infant childcare teachers may be heightened.

Childcare Teachers Educational Beliefs and Self-efficacy according to Psychological Preferences of the MBTI Test (MBTI 성격유형검사의 선호경향에 따른 보육교사의 교사신념과 자기효능감)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the pervasive MBTI psychological preferences of childcare teachers and to examine the effects of MBTI psychological preferences and teachers' educational beliefs on childcare teachers'self-efficacy. The participants of this study were 141 childcare teachers. An independent samples t-test, Pearson's productive correlation, and step-wise multiple regression were employed to analyze the data. The results are as follows: First, Depending on the MBTI psychological preferences trends in childcare teachers, there were differences in self-efficacy. Second, personality type Sensing(S) was positively correlated with preference for easy tasks. Personality type Thinking(T) was negatively correlated with behavioral education belief, and was positively correlated with interactional education belief, self-regulated efficacy and total score of self-efficacy. Personality type Judging(J) was positively correlated with interactional/maturational education belief and self-regulated efficacy. Third, interactional education belief and MBTI psychological preferences of childcare teachers had asignificant influence on self-efficacy.

The Effects of Kindergartens' Organizational Culture, Directors' Transformational Leadership and Teachers' Creative Personality on Kindergarten Teachers' Teaching Flow (유치원 교사의 교수몰입에 미치는 유치원의 조직문화, 원장의 변혁적 리더십 및 교사의 창의적 인성의 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among kindergartens' organizational culture, directors' transformational leadership, teachers' creative personality and teaching flow. The participants of this study were 289 kindergarten teachers in Busan. They completed the survey questionnaire composed of kindergartens' organizational culture scale, directors' transformational leadership scale, teachers' creative personality scale and teaching flow scale. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Cronbach's alpha, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression. The results were as follows: First, there were significant relations among kindergartens' organizational culture, directors' transformational leadership, teachers' creative personality and teaching flow. Second, kindergartens' organizational culture, directors' transformational leadership and teachers' creative personality affected teaching flow of kindergarten teachers. From the findings, it can be suggested that kindergartens' organizational culture, directors' transformational leadership and teachers' creative personality are critical variables to improve teaching flow of kindergarten teachers.

Early Childhood Educators' Teacher Self-Efficacy and Play Support by Personality Types (유아교사의 성격유형에 따른 교사 자기 효능감과 놀이지원)

  • Objective: The objective of this study is to classify the personality types of early childhood teachers and examine the variations in teacher self-efficacy and play support based on these personality types. Methods: The subjects of this study consisted of 302 early childhood teachers responsible for children aged 3 to 5 years old. The collected data were analyzed using cluster analysis and analysis of covariance. Results: Early childhood teachers were categorized into four types: the "sensitive group" (29%), the "conservative group" (10%), the "passive group" (28%), and the "active group" (34%). Significant differences in mean scores were observed for teacher self-efficacy and play support across these personality types. Notably, the active group demonstrated the highest levels of both teacher self-efficacy and play support. Consequently, the active group emerged as the most effective and functional personality type among early childhood teachers. Conclusion/Implications: This study emphasized the significance of early childhood teachers' personality types in their teaching practices, underscoring the importance of developing in-service and pre-service teacher education programs that take into account these personality types.

Metaphor Analysis of 'Children' Perceived by Pre-service Childcare Teachers (예비보육교사가 인식한 '영유아'에 대한 은유 분석)

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the meaning of children perceived by pre-service childcare teachers through metaphor analysis. To this end, data were collected from a group of 288 pre-service childcare teachers majoring in childcare at a university in Gyeonggi-do from the 4th week of May until the 2nd week of June 2021. As a result of the study, the meaning of children was categorized into 'being in need of care,' 'being affected by the environment,' 'being with personality,' 'precious and invaluable being,' 'being giving joy,' 'being who will lead the future,' 'pure and innocent being,' and 'being who develops teachers and parents.' Pre-service teachers showed the highest tendency to perceive children as 'beings in need of care' among the eight categories. The metaphorical expressions, 'sprout,' 'seed,' 'flower,' 'canvas,' 'sponge,' and 'mirror,' in descending order of frequency, were most commonly used among 138 metaphorical expressions. The findings of this study are expected to broaden the understanding of the pre-service teachers' perception of children and provide preliminary data for qualitative support and improvement plans for training pre-service childcare teachers in the future.

The Influence of Organizational Health on the Creative Personality of Teachers in Early Childhood Education: Examining the Mediating Effects of Play Teaching Efficacy (근무기관의 조직건강성이 유아교사의 창의적 인성에 미치는 영향: 놀이교수효능감의 매개효과 검증)

  • Objective: This study was conducted to examine the mediating effects of play teaching efficacy in the relationship between the organizational health of teacher workplaces and the creative personality of the teachers. Methods: The Pearson product-moment correlation analysis and one-way ANOVA were conducted for data analysis using SPSS 25.0. For mediating analysis, Baron & Kenny's (1986) multiple regression analysis using SPSS 25.0 and the Sobel test were also implemented. Results: There were significant differences in the organizational health of the workplaces according to age, years of working experience, type of workplace, and daily working hours. For play teaching efficacy, there were significant differences according to age, education level, years of working experience, type of workplace, and daily working hours of the teacher. On the other hand, significant differences were found in terms of age and education level in relation to the teacher having a creative personality. Play teaching efficacy was found to have a full mediation effect on the relationship between the organizational health of the workplace and the creative personality of the teacher. Conclusion/Implications: The organizational health of the workplace and play teaching efficacy should be improved in order to enhance the creative personality of teachers in early childhood education.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among teachers' conceptions of art education, and children's creative personality by mediating effects of teachers' role of creativity improvement. Participants included 156 teachers and 593 children in kindergartens and child care centers. Results indicated the following. First, the higher teacher's concepts of art education was the higher their role of creativity improvement was and children's creative personality was. Second, teachers' conceptions of art education and their role of creativity improvement were positively influenced by the children's creative personality. Third, the children's creative personality was influenced by the teachers' conceptions of art education and the their role of creative improvement control and the mediating effects of the teachers' role of creative improvement was significant in a partial way. The implication is that the teachers' conceptions of art education may enhance the their role of creative improvement and foster children's creative personality.

A Comparative Study of Job Satisfaction and Stress Coping Strategies of Teachers in Early Childhood Education and Care According to Their Personality Types (영유아교사의 성격유형에 따른 직무만족도와 스트레스 대처 방식의 차이)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate and compare how the Enneargram personality types of teachers in early childhood education and care would affect their job satisfaction and stress coping strategies. The findings are as follows. First, as to the distribution of the participants' Enneargram personality types, the most common was the Peacemaker type and the least common was the Achiever type. Second, for teachers' job satisfaction, there was a statistically significant difference in the job-related subcategory according to their personality types. The post-hot comparison showed that the Loyalist type showed the lowest score in job-related job satisfaction. Third, in terms of stress coping strategies, there was a statistically significant difference in the psychological coping strategy according to their personality types. The post-hot comparison showed that the Individualist type showed the highest score in psychological coping strategy. The implications for future studies are also discussed.
